Is "Death" All That Bad?
by MrMoe inwhat is death?
and what makes it so bad?
i am going to post something in a minute that is very personal for me, and yet i feel it is necessary to say.

I'm not sure what happens at death, if you simply go to sleep like the Borg says, or if the spirit survives and goes on......one thing I do know is that death sucks big time for those left behind. I lost 2 of my siblings before I was 25, and it is the WORST thing you can go through. When I found out I had cancer, my immediate thought was "how are my parents going to survive the death of yet another child?"
As hard as this world can be, I don't want to die, but like everyone before me and everyone after me, there's nothing we can do about it.

by Pepper ini used to get into trouble for making light of the these phrases that some elders have told me are to be used only gods people.
lol that you all may know maybe:.
"well, brother that is very "commendable," just before the meeting ends the po says to those in attendance "brothers the time left is reduced," i once heard a co say to those seated during one of his talks "well now, we don't want to die at armageddon now do we, well of course not.

Here's a few......
The worldwide brotherhood.......
Are you having a full share in the preaching work?? (no, I'm not having ANY share in the preaching work)
Brothers, every word that comes from this platform, comes directly from the mind of Jehovah! (this was at the Circuit Assembly a few years ago).
Why would you want to invest all your time in this System of Things that is rapidly approaching it's End?!
Beware of Apostates! (giggle!)
The time left is reduced! (to what?)
Religion is a Snare and a Racket! (no shit Sherlock)
Jehovah's Faithful and Discreet Slave Class has.............blah, blah, blah.......(fill in the blank)
How thankful we are that........blah, blah, blah...........(fill in this blank too)

Financial Help.
by Yizuman inhit my posting limit and am using my second account..... i don't know if anyone can help or not.. but i am in a desprate situation whereas i have to swallow my pride and seek out some help.. i am behind rent as well as my morgage ( i own a moble home on a lot rent).. need food as well.. phone needs to stay in service since i am deaf and need it as part my text communication for hopes of landing a better job.
sister can email me to let me know if a employer calls, so i can drive over and find out what's up from there.. i work at wal-mart and alot of us have our hours cut to 20+ hrs a week, so this is hurting me fianacially.. job hunts is hard since i am deaf since most employers seems to prefer hiring a hearing person.. i know of a deaf friend who is unemployed and he went thru 20 job interviews in a month.
none of them ever called or emailed him to say he got a job.. family can't help since they all have their own problems to deal with.. i can post all the info you need if anyone needs it, such as my landlord's address and my morgage address if anyone wants to mail a check directly to them.

Yizuman, seeing as your hours at Wal Mart have been cut, could you go and get another part time job at another store in Retail? I've worked at two part time jobs for the last 5 years; I really like the one but it was only part time. Rather than give it up, I got an additional job. Check out the stores......especially this time of year they should be really busy and will need the extra help.
As for your bank, they shouldn't want to forclose if you've only missed one payment. If they do, I would strongly recommend switching to another bank. If you explain your situation to them try to come to an agreement, they should be willing to help you through this.
I would also recommend trying to get some sort of disability compensation from the government. I'm not sure how much that pays in the USA but something is better than nothing.
Good luck.

What Doctrine Or Belief Didn"t You Agree W...
by minimus inwhen you get baptized, you are expected to swallow a multitude of beliefs that either you never really understood or simply didn't truly believe in.
when going over questions for baptism, almost nobody understood the concept of the"faithful and discreet slave".
yet after it was attempted to explain this mumbo-jumbo, every candidate meekly just went along with the explanation without ever truly understanding the fallacy.

I never believed that Jesus "returned invisibly" in 1914.........everything I read in the scriptures plainly showed that His Return would be visible to all....
I was studying with a sister in the Hall when I was 14 years old and I was preparing for baptism......anyway, she asks me if I had any questions about any of our beliefs or doctrines and naive as I was, I told her that I was having a hard time understanding the "invisible return" because the bible says "every eye will see him." So she starts the explanation and asks me "If Jesus appeared to people over North America, how would people in Russia see him?" I thought this was a very poor argument and so I said "the same sun that we see in the sky here in North America can be seen at the same time by people in England and South America."
Well, the Christian attitude vanished like ice on a hot coal and she looked at me in total shock at first (because I was challenging our main doctrine and she could think of no reply) and then she fixed with with a look that, at the time, absolutely terrified me. She suggested that unless I "readjust" my thinking, that I would not be able to get baptized and would lose Jehovah's favour. Being that age, I was still very impressionable, and so I pretended to "readjust" my thinking, but I never waivered on my personal belief that His Return would be visible.
The other doctrines I never agreed with are:
not celebrating birthdays or Xmas, but Anniversaries are okay
can't gamble on a lottery ticket but you can gamble in the stock market or worse, gamble on 1975......
It's okay to stand for a judge in a courtroom, but not for your National Anthem.
New Years parties
the entire Revelation book
the 144,000
and their 'two-witness' policy on child abuse........

Waiting...
by JH inwhat must go through the minds of older jehovah witnesses, who believed that they would never die and now face the reality that they will die of old age?
being told since a century that
that the end is near just made them keep on producing without questioning.

It's really sad to see.......I was talking to a sister in my Hall the other day - she just turned 85. She said "I thought Armageddon would be here long before now, but I don't think I'll live to see it." It's heartbreaking to witness this, because so many of them believed with all their hearts that this WAS Jehovah's Organization and they were all assured that they would never grow old in this System of Things.
I know that many of them, without actually saying it, feel totally and utterly betrayed by the Governing Body members, because it was THEY who promised "life without end" to them. However, they're too old to feel they want to start another religion now, and if they left, it would be as though they've wasted 50, 60 or 70 years of their lives and who wants to think THAT at that point in your life?
My parents are over 70 years of age now, and I have to face the fact that one day, they'll be gone. I find this very difficult some times because of course when I was younger, I never thought I'd have to face that possibility..........whether there's a future resurrection here on earth, or if there's life after death, it's still hard for Witnesses to face death head on.

Speaking from experience, over-eating is an addiction in 99% of the cases. Whereas others may turn to booze, cigarettes or drugs to 'make themselves feel better', alot of people turn to comfort food and this rarely includes fruit and vegetables. It's generally either carbs or sweets that we turn to. It's because if you're depressed, the food affects the seratonin in your brain and it gives you an instant boost, just like drugs or alcohol.
I too find it somewhat hypocritical that you can be DF'd for smoking, but nothing happens to you for "polluting" your body with an excess of pop, chips, cakes and donuts..........the only difference is that other people aren't breathing in the crumbs from your cake when you're eating it..........
It's a very difficult habit to break, overeating, simply because it's cheap, it's easy and it's legal..........

Official- Bethel cutbacks?
by No Apologies inmy wife told me that last night a letter was read from the society, explaining how all printing operations in brooklyn were being moved to either walkill or patterson, and that worldwide there would be consolidation of the printing operations.
i know there have been rumors like this floating around here for the last month or so, but now it seems there is confirmation.
has anyone else heard about this letter being read?
-
Mary
I've heard the same rumours.........alot is being transferred to Patterson with alot of "layoffs" from Bethel.........probably because the old magazine placements are way down, and hardly any new bible studies in the free world are being conducted.....there's just not the growth they once had (gee what a shame!).
Plus, they probably need to trim costs from printing and start saving for all the lawsuits they're going to have on their hands......
