What a fantastic letter..........wonder if the morons at the top will even see it. Not that they'd give a damn.

should jws ride horses/use wheels?
by badboy in.
i understand that epona(celtic goddess)was assoiceted with horses and fertility as well as possibly assoiceted with the isis cult in egypt.. wheels were considered 2 b religious symbols.. in view of the fact that both wheels and horses have pagan connections, should jws avoid them?

Absolutely not! All JWs should now abandon their cars, and walk everywhere, just like Jesus did. For the rich, they can ride an ass into town.
Let's see the Circuit Overseers get from congregation to congregation without a freakin' car.

Lottery Tickets & Gambling
by JH inwhen you were active, did you buy any lottery tickets?
i know a xjw who told me that he never stopped buying lottery tickets, even when he was active.
he always asked somebody else to go get them for him, so that he wouldn't be seen buying them.

I buy the Lotto 649 and have for years...........
There's one elder in my Hall who first of all, bilked his half-brother out of his inheritence, (estimated at about $200,000 Cdn) and put about $100,000 of it into Nortel stock in 1999. (Nortel is a Canadian firm who basically was run on the same premise as Enron). He would arrogantly go around to everyone at the Hall and tell them that he "had the Stock Market figured out" as the stock was still going up then. By the end of 2000 though, he wasn't singing this tune any more. The stock crashed and is virtually worthless now. LOL!!
The point is: he took a huge GAMBLE and lost. It seems perfectly okay though, from the Borg's warped perspective, to lose 100 grand like that, but a "real Christian" isn't supposed to spend $1.00 on a lottery ticket because that's worshiping the God of Good Luck and is GREEEEEEEEEEED!!
In my opinion, there's no difference between investing in the stock market and lottery tickets. Only difference is that you generally don't lose your shirt if your lotto numbers don't come up.

How to get free Watchtowers???
by Elsewhere ini have been trying to think of a way for me to consistently receive copies of the watchtower and awake without having to give my money to the wts.
i'm stumped.
i can't go the kh to get them because they will not keep giving you stuff if you don't pay, errr, make donations.
-
Mary
Um, isn't there a box on the back of the Watchtower asking if you would like a free subscription??? Just phone Bethel, give them your name and your WORK address, and tell them that you want a subscription sent.........don't let them know you're a JW though.....just tell them that your "interested".........

How have you rooted out the WT (harmful) doctrines
by Marcos inwhen i left the wt i basically never looked back.
i decided that they would never again impact my life as they had in the past.. here is the problem in my case.
after all these years, i have finally been faced with some situations that i had to react to and have seen that a lot of the old teachings were still influencing my decisions in life (ie.

Well when I had my operation a while ago, they told me that there was the risk of bleeding during surgery. Without hesitation I made arrangements to donate my own blood for the surgery. Surprisingly, it didn't bother my conscience once I read on this site how it's now okay to accept "fractions" of blood from the Borg's "new light".
I haven't gone out in Service ever since I realized that the 1914 doctrine was based on lies, and since I read CoC I've done my own research and drawn my own conclusions......yes, I've become an evil "independant thinker"!!!
You have to take it slowly though........I was born into this religion and I've never known any other way of life. To simply drop everything all at once would have done irreparable damage to my psyche, of that I'm sure.

Joanna, after the JWs reaction a few weeks ago when they came to see your mom and you answered the door and they took off like thieves in the night, I think that basically sums up their feelings and the atmosphere you'd be walking in to if you went to the shower.
Your friend probably misses you, but because you're inactive, you'd be deemed "bad association" or even "marked" and she'd be hauled before the elders if they found out she was still friends with you.
You might want to call her direct to see how she is with you. If she's fine, you could send her a gift in the mail or drop it off at her house, but personally, I wouldn't bother going to the shower..........and by the way, this probably isn't your friend that "forgot" to put your name on the invitation as people generally don't give showers for themselves. It was done by whoever is giving the shower for her.

What Double Standards Do JW's Practice?
by minimus inone double standard that always got to me was how a body of elders would talk about how a brother needed to "qualify" for some privilege by being a good example for weekend service and yet a number of elders would hardly ever go out in field service at all!
or how they would use 2 hours to literally gossip about everyone in the congregation, and then give a local needs talk on the need of not talking about the brothers and minding our own business.........what double standards got to you?

If you commit adultery or fornication (consenting sex between two adults), chances are, you'll be reproved or maybe even disfellowshipped;
If you are a pedophile and have unconsenting sex with a child, you'll be promoted, pampered and protected without exception, even if you end up in prison.
If you go to university to get a BA, MA or PhD, you'll be viewed as an "independent thinker" within the congregation;
If you already have a degree and THEN become a Witness, everyone will be so proud that someone with a PhD learned "the truth"!
It's okay to celebrate wedding anniversaries, but not your own birthday......
It's okay to watch Sleeping Beauty, but not Harry Potter......
It's okay for brothers to wear a mustache, but not a beard.............
It's okay to lose a hundred grand in the stock market cause that's a "business investment", but you can't lose $1.00 on a lottery ticket cause that's "gambling".

IDEA FOR THOSE EXPECTING A VISIT
by Mary ini thought of a reply you may want to try if you do in fact get a visit from the elders on dec. 25th.
if they indicate that you can be df'd or da'd for celebrating christmas, you could ask them why it was okay for the organization to celebrate it back in the early days and that it was endorsed by brother russell and brother rutherford even though they knew it was a pagan holiday.
there's a quote in one of the old publications where rutherford actually talks about the paganism and commercialism of christmas and then goes on to say "we might as well join in with the rest of the world in celebrating this holiday.

Hi Kelsey,
Everyone's circumstances vary. Some couldn't care less if they're DF'd or DA'd. Others, mostly with JW families still in the religion, DO care. If they're given the boot, alot of their families will totally shun them because that's what they're told to do. This can have a devastating effect on someone, and therefore they do NOT want to have anything read out about them at the Hall. This is just a suggestion for those who decide to talk to the elders if they do show up. Most elders are "Yes" men, and haven't thought about the hypocritical stand they're taking. If you've got some ammo to feed them, it might make a couple of them stop and think.

Your elders will probably give you the old "light gets brighter" bullshit, but don't let them off the hook. Emphasize that these two "annointed" brothers KNEW Xmas was pagan, and they STILL gave the go-ahead...........should they have been disfellowshipped for knowingly promoting a pagan holiday? Aren't they both in heaven right now?? (or so the average JW thinks). If so, then I guess Jehovah didn't really consider it a real bad sin to celebrate it right?? Watch their faces fall.
You might also ask them point-blank if they plan on DFing and DAing everyone who wears a wedding ring, as it's also from pagan origin. Make sure you look right at their hands when you say this......it'll make them feel real uncomfortable......
Any other suggestions on how to trip them up?

You will never grow old
by Elsewhere ini was looking at the quotes web site and came across a jewel: *** awake!
because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years.
of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, jesus foretold: 'this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.
