The Tablet, The Watchtower, Child abuse and thewiz
by Lionel_P_Hartley inthewiz has commented on how, because the tablet is a catholic weekly, we are all hypocrites for reading it, or attributing any weight to it.
likely it is out of ignorance that thewiz fails to recognize that the tablet is not published by the catholic church.
however, can anyone here imagine that paragon of truth, the watchtower, publishing a story like the following about a jw elder who molested children?

Julie
I think hell would freeze over before we would see such an article from the publishing company a.k.a. Watchtower. We all know the problems they have in their organization regarding sexual molestations and various abuses of children. They point to others (i.e. Catholic priests) who become known publically to make themselves look (and feel) good.
This was one of the things that really threw me for a loop when I was studying with the JWs. They were so critical of other faiths and forever implying they had none of these problems. When I discovered otherwise I felt betrayed and sickened. So glad I found out the truth about the Truth (tm).
Regards,
JulieP.S. Note that lifelong Catholics in the article now question everything from the Church. Something we don't see following revelations re: WT elders molesting children. Those poor children are ostracised instead for "speaking against God's chosen"! Sick!

Hi Katie,
You have to live your life for yourself. If someone really loves you they will just have to accept what they do not understand or necessarily agree with.
Life is short. Do what makes you happy. Be good to those around you and do not, repeat, DO NOT feel guilty for being happy. Ever. Say good-bye to paradigms and hello to freedom of thought.
Best wishes for your freedom from the (narrow minded)opinions of others,
Julie

Here's a blurb on the *real* ten commandments:
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/features/2000/carrier2.html
In part this link reads:
-------------------------------------------------------
Let us now turn to the Ten Commandments of Solon (Diogenes Laertius, Lives of Eminent Philosophers, 1.60), which run as follows:
1. Trust good character more than promises.
2. Do not speak falsely.
3. Do good things.
4. Do not be hasty in making friends, but do not abandon them once made.
5. Learn to obey before you command.
6. When giving advice, do not recommend what is most pleasing, but what is most useful.
7. Make reason your supreme commander.
8. Do not associate with people who do bad things.
9. Honor the gods.
10. Have regard for your parents.Unlike the Commandments of Moses, none of these is outdated or antithetical to modern moral or political thought. Every one could be taken up by anyone today, of any creed--except perhaps only one. And indeed, there is something much more profound in these commandments. They are far more useful as precepts for living one's life. Can society, can government, prevail and prosper if we fail to uphold the First Commandment of Moses? By our own written declaration of religious liberty for all, we have staked our entire national destiny on the belief that we not only can get by without it, but we ought to abolish it entirely. Yet what if we were to fail to uphold Solon's first commandment? The danger to society would be clear--indeed, doesn't this commandment speak to the heart of what makes or breaks a democratic society? Isn't it absolutely fundamental that we not trust the promises of politicians and flatterers, but elect our leaders and choose our friends instead by taking the trouble to evaluate the goodness of their character? This, then, can truly be said to be an ideal that is fundamental to modern moral and political thought.
----------------------------------------------------Let me know what you think, especially believers.
Thanks

salvation seekers
by DIM inall jw's care about are their own salvation or everlasting life.
yoyomama has verified this in the following post:.
"i love the elders in my congregation and i appreciate their effort to help me through my illness.

:The really sad part is that due to your fear of death, you are not truely living life. You are giving your life to a human organization to do with what they want. Sad.
This is an excellent point!!! On the bet that immortality can be had many waste their entire lives trying to attain it. Little do they realize they waste what little they get. The sad irony of it all.

Did Jesus Teach Parents Should be Honored?
by JosephAlward inmatthew says that jesus tells his disciples to "honor your father and mother" (matt 19:19), but luke thinks that jesus requires his followers to hate their parents, "whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother...cannot be my disciple.
" (luke 14.26) .
couldn't god find a way for one to be a disciple of jesus without having to hate one's parents?

Joseph,
You make an interesting point that I feel applies to a lot of the New Testament. Contradictions. While the OT is a white knuckle roller-coaster ride of blood and guts, the NT is stepping all over itself. Hard to believe there are people who would fight to the death over their conviction this is the word of God. I think my twelve year old could write a more consistent tale(though it would likely include fairy princesses saving the world, on unicorns).

sept 11 brings out JW blood-lust
by rcranor ini met a bunch of witnesses from my old congregation on a ferry to seattle a month ago.
i tried avoiding them but they spotted me and their was no escape.
they all seemed to be very jovial and asked me if i was going to the meetings.

I have read comments regarding how horrified people are to find out JWs are almost happy about the September 11 attacks. I do not understand this. I knew the day that it happened many a JW would be viewing this as the long awaited "sign" that the time has come! Finally 99.9% of mankind would be obliterated and they alone, only the "faithful ones", would be spared. Isn't this why all those days are wasted schlepping mags all over town and poor working folk are bothered on Saturday mornings by strangers selling "good news"? What's all this surprise about?

I AM NO LONGER A JW STATISTIC
by Cassiline inthis has taken a lot of courage to post.
my life with the jws has been one hardship after another.
i am sharing this to help others see that jws claim to be loving and forgiving people while they are not.

Wow Nita,
You have some sordid tales of your own! Thanks for posting and I'm glad you found this site. You bring out some good points about who to talk to for the "real scoop". It really ticks me off how children are treated in this cult. These JWs screw up their kids and then turn them out into society for us to deal with. A shame so many lives ruined.
Take care and keep coming around--

News Flash: October Ends - World Remains
by ChuckD inwell, our resident sooth-sayer yk has once again missed the mark, as october ends and the world spins on.
but then again, as was the case in 1914, the world may have come crashing down but i failed to notice.

To those who may not know:
You Know's End Times prophecies are an annual event. EVERY October is going to be "it". We went through this every year on H2O with him so it is nothing new. I would guess the Sept. 11 provided him with a glimmer of hope for at least a short time but the fact remains, it is now November and we're still here (again). As our resident False Prophet Himself would say *yawn*.
Take care all--

:Well actually I don't see how the answer to this question is somehow a major point, but it does go a long way in helping ppl to see that the circumstances which gave teeth to Reformation sentiments in Europe had nothing to do with religion.
Perhaps, when you were looking up your answer, you may have noticed that the reformation had *plenty* to do with religion. Mostly the fact with how intertwined religion and secular interests were. Of course you do point out it does "go a long way" in highlighting the circumstances so, in spite of your first claim (not a major point), you bring it to the fore as the major point that it is. Interesting contradiction there bigboi.
Thanks anyway but it wasn't me who needed the lesson in history. I gotta ask though, when you were reading about this weren't you just slapping your thigh over the Pope's "strategy"? And the legate he sent!! Campeggio!! (synonomous with Molasses!) Amazing too that Anne had the will to hold Henry off as long as she did eh? Oh and as far as the "world's most prominent Protestant" goes, good thing Henry didn't hear you say that. He took great pains to show himself more Catholic than the Pope. Even went so far as to burn a few more heretics and such to "prove" it. Interesting times.
