when i was a witness i was good friends with a recently baptized guy who was always trying to reach out to help, run the microphones, work behind the counter with the literature, attendant at the assemblies, etc.. the big problem here was that he is a police office, has been one for over 30 years, so the org.
would not allow him to do anything exept clean the toilets during assemblies .
his wife and him divoriced ten years ago and he was df'ed.
I think the reason his funeral is important to him is because he is a policeman. The funerals of men in service are normally very well covered by the media if they are killed in the line of duty especially. If no one was at his funeral, I wonder if he feels that people will think badly of him? I am sure colleagues would at least be there, right?
Very sad. He probably is still under some influence. Nice of you to hang out with him for that time.
so lately ive been getting friend requests from jw's who i knew from before i faded.
now my mom is on facebook and just sent a friend request, ya cant ignore your moms request...lol!.
i will accept her and this will probably be the end to my fade.
You can block certain pics from certain people, then preview how it will look to them. Worth a try if you dont mind spending a few minutes on that.

never dated while in because i "wasn't ready for marriage", haven't dated since fade because i really don't want to burden my girlfriend with the bull@#% of dating me while i still have to put up a facade of being "just inactive" to my family so they won't shun me.. this sucks.

I feel for you. That is a tough situation. I am guessing you are in your early 20's?
Think about whether or not your family can give you the kind of companionship a wife can? Can they make children and a home life for you?
If you have those desires for a girlfriend (which are totally normal) then it is time to start living. Dating is very fun, can be exciting and you can make tons of good friends and make memories that are a natural part of life. There will be bumps and bruises along the way, but you will find someone that you care about.
As far as baggage goes, I find most people are extremely empathetic, and willing to try and help or at least be a listening ear.
Just be open about it and have a free mind on what you are willing to explore in life.

that it was extremely lax compared to mid west or other areas.. people were supposedly not df'd when they would most definitely been elsewhere, and more "worldy" type of dress and grooming were tolerated well.. is this correct at least in some areas?
if so, do you think it has to do with money, or the general culture there?.

i never had anyone close to me d'fd when i was still in my jw daze.
but i know that once it happens, good friends are crushed and desperately want that person reinstated.
when they are reinstated, there is a lot of (quiet) celebration.
I do not think things can be back to normal right away. Maybe as time passes. DF people who then are reinstated always have that black mark on them that people can recall, think about and attribute any shortfall to. They love to judge.
One of my friends shunning me, who actually happens to be DF herself wrote on an internet site something all inspiring like " when you judge another, you define yourself" and I thought, OMG, take some of your own advice!
They are all brainwashed, it is the JW culture to be that way. Some are not like that, but many are.
up front, i'm not talking about jw baptisms.
we all know the approved female attire is a "modest" swimsuit and even that's not modest enough, so they slap a big t-shirt over the "modest" swimsuit.. .
i'm talking about anywhere else jws and water would mix: the beach, the pool, the river, etc.
yup, fine as long as your knockers were not hanging out too much or ample ass cheek showing.
there is a woman at the place i work that has studied off and on for several yrs with one of the jw employees .
today i was in her office and i noticed in her bookcase a collection of jw literature .
she has the insight books , a revelation book and some other brochures .
I do not think I could resist that opportunity! I would definitely strike up a conversation and get to know the draw she has. Stop those "seeds" from germinating!
but her reply made me so very envious.
you know my mother always would tell me, "wordly people aren't really happy.
" as a kid that always bugged me because i figured if people are laughing, smiling, and generally having a good time, they must be happy.
Make your weekends fun then! Make plans, start living life. You know everlasting life ain't comin'! You are not getting any younger dear grasshopper!
You have so much potential, you seem extremely logical and kind hearted. I agree with Leaving WT, what are your goals? Was there ever a time in your life when you had a taste of something that you wanted to go back and taste again? (Yes I realize that can be construed rated R, but you know where I am going with this)
