I remember being single and over 40 and having sisters calling me, showing up at my door at all hours....some in the congregation wold ask why I am not married. I would reply that I don't want to be married; I prefer to shack up, but then I wouldn't be allowed to give pubilc talks.
i finally desided to leave the witnesses therefore my family and basicly everyone and everything i had ever known.
i was 19 about to be 20 and i had just finished my first semester at a community college.
i was shocked at the respons of my father and others about me attending college at first they were ok but behind my back they were pretty much betting on my failier.
Welcome to the group, Stephanie. You are a brave, strong woman. I commend you. You are a fighter, a survivor. You took that first step of breaking away from toxic association (family, organization etc) and no longer have to squeeze yourself into their mould. You no longer need their permission/approval/forgiveness for being you.

When I was a MS I used to mention that from the platform. I'd tell the congregation to look around, take note of who is missing, and call them yourselves to tell them you miss them. Don't leave it up to the elders and MS, because if we go on a shepherding call and tell them they are missed, they will reply, "Then how come no one calls me, no one visits me..." They know the elders and MS do it because it's part of their responsibilities. But when you call or visit, they'll know it's because you "want to" (referencing Jesus' words "I want to").

i've read a little about them and they do not believe in trinity, and have similar believes as jehovah's witnesses.. they also try to keep all ten commandments, in addition to that.. i did not research all their doctrines, but a lot of them look familiar to me.. what do you think?.
They teach that masturbation is a sin.
They are pretty much a different version of the JW's, except that the Church of God practices tithing, and they celebrate certain festivals. They don't go door-to-door though, but instead they use the internet and other means for spreading their message.
Interestingly, I looked on their website for local congregations, and found only phone numbers, not addresses. Where do they meet? Sounds secretive to me.

At next year's convention, the new light will be that there is a Group 3, and for 2013's convention there will be Group 4...Group 5...maybe there will be 144,000 "groups" of groups of discerners, basking in the light, pawing the ground like fattened calves.....
a super-zealous elder once told me in a very grave tone, "you know, mr. falcon, when someone becomes an apostate and leaves god's organization, they usually do very well physically and materially.
" hence the reason he claims that they feel "vindicated".
now i do also remember hearing such statements in the past from other witnesses.
Think of how much $ we used to spend each year for conventions and assemblies. Buying a vehicle suitable for field service rather than what we preferred to own. Contributions. Gas and other expenses for field service. Clothing for meetings, including the dry cleaning bills.
Now we no longer have those expenses. So, "evidently" this "generation" that used to spend their "unrighteous riches" on field service and meetings is now enjoying their "symbolic" mansions and "spiritual" private jets which are being progressively revealed to those of the apostate class who have exercised "discernment" and have "quit touching" the WT.
ya'll need to cut harold camping some slack on his apparent failure at his may 21 prediction.
to use a patent watchtower alibi, "he never used the special words, "jehovah said".
besides, harold obviously had some new light since and has altered his prediction by adding 5 months to the original.. harold camping "... said that instead of the biblical rapture in which believers were expected to ascend into heaven, a spiritual judgement day occurred on may 21 instead.
Maybe he "evidently" meant that the "generation" that saw May 21 would also see Judgement Day with their eyes of spiritual discernment.

so, i have been mysteriously added to a facebook page for jw's.
i didn't join and it is supposedly a closed group.
i went to their page and found a dozen others who were wondering how they became a part of a group they never joined.
If you have your own facebook page, put something in your profile under "religious views", like "formerly Jehovah's Witness, now [whatever]" or just "ex-JW" or atheiest....anything that makes it clear you are no longer a JW.
I did that on mine. Some JW "friended" me, exchanged one or two messages, then apparently (or should I say "evidently"?) saw my "religious views" in my profile and quietly unfriended me.
i never was a jw, so please excuse my lack of knowledge here.... after reading some posts on this forum it seems i've realized that i don't fully understand what field service is.
it seems that field service is the following (and please correct me):.
- something jw's have to do for a specific number of hours per month.

When I was an active witness, occasionally a co-worker or a neighbor would ask me privately what it was like to go in field service. They weren't interested in scriptural reasons or beliefs, but just what is was like. I always enjoyed those discussions.
