  ok, here is the question.. if a dfd person shows to a kh of congregation x and starts attending the meetings and talks to the elders and tells them he has been attending the meetings for a year in congregation y. how will the elders in cong y verify that?

  would they need a letter, a phone call?

  will they check with the branch?

  If a DFd person shows to a KH of Congregation X and starts attending the meetings and talks to the elders and tells them he has been attending the meetings for a year in congregation Y. How will the elders in Cong Y verify that? would they need a letter, a phone call? will they check with the branch? Whats the policy?

  This will depend on the tenacity of the CongX elders who get assigned to handle the matter. If they know anyone in CongY, they will just make a phone call and inquire. If they are lazy they may trust what they have been told. If the DF person (lets call him BOB) was not real regular, or was not really known to CongY elders, the elders in CongY may not even remember Bob (even if Bob really was going semi-regular), although an unknown DFd person attending a cong does stand out at most KHs. If Bob really did go to CongY occasionally, most any elder there will not remember how much or how regular, but will remember that Bob was there from time to time. Bob will more likely be remembered if he asked for reinstatement there. SO…… if the story is a complete fake and Bob NEVER really went to CongY, I doubt this little scam will work as no one will go on record that he already has year of good attendance to his credit.

  Also if after 3 months of attending the meetings in CongX. Dfd requests reintstatement, what is the policy if Dfd was Dfd in Cong Z in another country? Will Cong Z contact Cong X and Y or only X?

  CongX MUST contact CongZ regardless of what country is involved. (I know of this personally.) It may help if Bob can provide name and address of JC Chairman in foreign country where he was DFd or else they will likely have to arrange for contact through WT Service Dept. If different language, (for example US English Cong needing to contact Mexican or European cong, CongX elders will look for US foreign language cong. elder to translate letters). The bigger the language barrier, the better for Bob. Most important will be what CongZ elders think about Bob. How "bad" was Bob? What caused him to be DFd? If CongZ elders take the "hard line" against him, he will be screwed for many months (minimum). If it was just standard DF for smoking, pornea, drunkedness, and no serious notoriety, then CongZ elders will likely follow recommendation of CongX.

  these thoughts were inspired by a comment made on my very first post, in which i mentioned that while my husband and i have had our eyes opened regarding this religion were not ready to give up the friends and family just yet.

  You can only listen to "what a great assembly that was, the best ever" and "we really need Armageddon to come, this world is so bad" for so long......

  OMG! Just had that happen for the 1st time this week. And...........it was from one of our Bible Studies (converts)! At the same time, he said, he doesn't like to get "too close" to worldly famly since realizing they are soon to all be destroyed at Armageddon.

  'necessary family business'...just what is it?

  (prompted in part by the post on the latest wt reinforcing shunning).. say a child has occasional, not regular, contact with a d/f parent.

  the child later gets married, is inviting the parent seen as ''necessary family business''?.

  if a wedding is not, then what is?.

  In the past, "necessary family business" was left to the individual to determine. However, if it resulted in notoriety in the congregation, a publisher may not quality for positions (elder, MS, pioneer) or privledges of service (even walking mic), all of that left to the determination of the body of elders. However, one could NOT be dealt with via a JC for what they deemed "necessary business" regardless what the elders thought about it.

  I now wonder, however, if a person is BRAZEN about their association with DFd relatives, if this new "sin" is going to be applied to it (or anything else they determine qualifies as "brazen")??????? If so, FADING will become more important to those who want to be able to stay in contact with active JDub family.

  this is one of the most aggressive watchtowers i think i have ever read.. four study articles on not "following the crowd" not following unrealities(page 13) not following false teachers, meaning apostates of course(p 15).

  avoiding false teachers means "refusing to read their literature, watch tv programs that feature them, examine their web sites, or add comments to their blogs.

  (para 7, pg 16).

  my parents became witnesses when i was four years old.

  even when i was younger i always had doubts (my sweet old grandparents were "wicked" and would be destroyed at armageddon???

  an idea occurred to me that the fds may not be the gb but something slightly different.. i have no scriptural basis for this statement, only the practical evidence of what i can see and read.. the gb has been accused repeatedly of deceit and misleading people.

  .

  the witnesses themselves as a group are certainly faithful to, and discrete about, their gb depite the gb's apparent errors.. i simply wonder if perhaps the individual witnesses themselves could fit this description: ' a faithful and discrete slave'.. this is entirely guesswork and pretty much unfounded on any solid evidence, merely a thought.. any ideas?.

  i got a visit from an elder today and he brought over an invitation to the memorial, i excepted it and he said he wanted to come over for a shepherding call.

  i told him monday would work for me.

  so him and another elder will be here on monday at 7:30 pm.

  How would you handle the tattoo employment situation??

  Could you make a case that this is WRONG?

  Could you make a case that this is a DISFELLOWSHIPPING offense?

  Personally, I feel that since we are not under the Mosaic Law (which is the only place I know one could find a scripture to apply), how could you "scripturally" object to it? Awake! of 09/22/2003 seems to leave it a matter of conscience, although strongly discourages it.

  We have been ?? "priveliged" ?? "to have the first black president"

  Old thought patterns are hard to change.

  White, black, red, green...........I think the man (or woman) in whom 51% of the American people put faith is the one who is privileged (or priveliged).

  At the end of his first 4 years, we'll see if he is again privileged to have earned their trust and faith for 4 more years.

  (I hope so, or I may feel inclined to jump back on the Armageddon bandwagon.)
