Sending you tons and tons of hugs, I've not lost a family pet yet, and I have nightmares about it. I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sure wherever Sheeba is, she is grateful to have spent her life with such awesome humans. The pictures were beautiful, and she was such a good-looking little lady to boot!!! She looks happy in all of them, and it's so great to see such a strong bond she had with you and your family.

I got very VERRRRYYYY lucky that my family didn't/doesn't believe in the shunning aspect- not ten years ago when both my super-JW-high-in-the-cult uncles cheated on their wives and got kicked out, not when my cousin got pregant at sixteen, not when I came out to both my parents.(We are Latino, and both sets of parents come from broken families, always reiterated the importance of family).
I know too many are not as fortunate. I wish I could send them all hugs and support. This cult is EVIL, and it sickens me that this evil society is able to get away with so much. I hope they go the way of Scientology. People need to be AWARE.

Ha. Bought pot for my baptized witness friends. Had sex. Made out with girls. Got drunk as a skunk and was totally hitting on everyone who made eye contatc with me at my parents wedding. Fraternized with openly gay males (SASSY gay males at that).
Not buying into the sham.
And derailing a couple of souls. Newsflash: they are happy and no longer oppressed.

Incest
by LoisLane looking for Superman inas a born in, one of my earliest thoughts has always been jehovah has an angel that writes down everything in a big book, all the good things that happen to me/others and everything bad that happens to me/others.
i faithfully and honestly believed that.. in march of this year i read c of c. by 5 am the next morning i was out.
24 hours before, a true, steadfast believer.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. You are a very brave person, to admit it and to actually let others know. I hope you are dealing with the impact this must have had on you, and I send you my best wishes and many many hugs.

Brothers playing sports are so aggressive.
by Kaiser inthis summer i started to play football(soccer) with "wordly" people.
it s been so nice and relaxing without flashovers.. contrast for playing with witnesses is huge!
here is couple examples of witnesses games from where i live:.

My mom finally convinced my worldly dad to join the brothers from our congegration to join them in a game of basketball and soccer, thinking this would entice my dad and bond with the brothers and make him realize that she was right all along, these are God's people. (My dad used to play college basketball in his younger years, and is an avid fan of sports. Like, really avid. )
Well he went. And he never ever went back. Mom used to bug him every Sunday morning about it, and he'd reply with "I'm tired" "I'm sore", or the dreaded "But I'm taking the kids to play basketball right this very moment!!" So we had to suffer through my dad's coaching for a while, until my mom finally asked him one day why he didn't want to 'fraternize' with the JWs.
And my dad went serious and said something about how the brothers were the worst players he had ever encountered in his non-professional life. They were also ball hoggers and completely disorganized and held grudges. And that by the end of the games, they had shunned my dad because he kept scoring and scoring.

Any born-ins have this attitude about converts?
by Nambo inso there was this great gang of us, from south london, manchester and wolverhampton, went to socialise with a group in fishguard in wales.. amongst the conversations one of the single sisters stated, "i could never marry anybody who used to be in the world".. i guess a lifetime of knocking on doors had given her the impression there couldnt possibly be a convert in her midst, never mind later alone with her in her mgb.. so whats with this, did you think we had rat scabies or were possesed by demons or something?.

I also disagree with the whole, hotness trumps the issue. I used to sometimes tag along this group of four very, very pretty girls (actually, they were easily considered the hottest girls in our year in high school), and I noticed that not one single guy would ever come talk to them. No one, and I mean no one, and we were given the stink eye. At the time this surprised me, because in school it was completely the opposite, you couldn't get any face time with them because guys were always slobbering after them.
Took me a while to realize why, but when I did it made me kind of sad. One of those things that made me realize, slowly but surely, what crap that organization really is.
The elitism is totally there, and it's funny because my mom was not a born in, but even she herself fell prey to that mentality, commenting on sister so-and-so is not to be trusted, or that brother so-and-so can never understand Jehovah or feel him because he used to drink or smoke or whatever.

Was There Anything You Actually Enjoyed About Being A JW?
by MrFreeze ini'm sure this question has been raised a lot but it is always good to look back.
the last 5 or 6 years of me being a jw, i did not have a very good go of it.
one thing i actually did enjoy was going to the international convention.

I enjoyed 'corrupting' fellow teens , opening their eyes and making them question what was being fed into them.
That and sometimes you met genuinely nice people.

Was I the most fanatic Witness or can you beat this??
by Witness 007 inat 18 after the quick build at our hall i gave up on a career {except window/toilet cleaning} and became a rabid pioneer/servant who, get this...made a plastic sleeve necklace so i could put my blood card in it!!!
i had one in my wallet and one hanging on my neck.. can anyone beat that?
fast forward to 2001 when fractions became a "conscience matter..." i remember shaking my head during that watchtower study...i destroyed my blood cards and asked my doctor to put me down as "no religion.

Bwuahahahaha!!! unshackled, from a fellow sax player, that's just too funny.
Hmm, I've got one! When I was a Freshman in high school my english teacher made us write in these notebooks ever week about a special subject. My dumb ass wrote about the JW organization and Jahoovah many, many times. Like, I would cut out sections or pictures from the magazines, write FIVE darn pages on the importance of preaching/witnessing, and, since the teacher was also a JW, she also allowed me to pass booklets and stuff.
And I wondered why I was bullied and ridiculed so much in Freshman year lol
