  Mother's letter

  my wife recieved this letter from her mother thursday.

  i thought i might share it at her request to see your opinions as to how she might respond.

  i offer a slightly edited version of her letter, any suggestions?.

  silentlamb, I got a similar letter from my mother. The same expressions and words! Looks like mothers tend to write such letters:-)) But I know, it took me a few days to get over it (last year).
  My family shun us already, but we are only inactive so far. They said, we are bad association for them!
  For us, nothing hold us back anymore from leaving 100%. Im gonna write the letter in the next weeks.

  Anybody has a good advise:
  Our kid is 6 years old. My parents take sometimes care for some days. After my daugther stayed with them, she is difficult for some days. She say things like: I don't want that you miss the paradies. Jehovah said, we have to go to meetings and so on...
  My parents confirm to me, that they don't talk against us to our daugther. Who is in a similar situation?

  Welcome to all the new ones.
  My parents became witnesses when I was 10 years old. My father made a fast "carriere" in the "truth". I was never eager in the "truth" (can't stand to hear that expression anymore :-))
  I always had a lot of doubts, which I kept for myself..for the well known reasons..some years ago, I start to read books, surf in the Internet and so on about everything concerning JW.
  My wife started to miss the love in the meeting and made some bad experiences with so called brothers.
  I had some hart discussions with my father, until he realised, that it could be dangerous for himself to loose the faith. We sent a letter to our meeting, informing them that we wanna have a break. Since then, my family cut contact with us. They say, we are a bad influence. This is hard for us and for our little kid. After all we know about JW, there is no way back for us anymore. We are thinking to be df soon.
  I lost faith into the bible and the god of the bible...our kid miss the meetings and friends there sometimes..but enjoy the new freedom and time we got for each other..

  some of you by choice or by compelling reason will attend the book study to consider the creator book.

  during the study you might want to ask a few questions.

  here are some things to ponder and maybe you can formulate some questions to ask your conductor.. this book is dreadful in its use of quotations.

  about the flood: According to the bible chronologie, the flood was happen about 2300 b.C.
  Did you know that Egypt build the famous pyramides in the time around 2200-2100 b.C.?
  Think about, just 8 people survived the flood!
  And by the way, Egypt doesn't have a flood legend, which would match to the bible at all...

  larc, from my own experience I can say, it's very hard to play that roll just to keep your family happy. And mostly, they are worried about you and wanna know, why don't you go to meetings anymore and so on....
  And when they disuss so called "theocratic topics" with the family members, what do you say? Do you say, what they expect to hear?

  What about, they ask you to pray? Can you still pray in the way they like to hear?

  It depends from case to case, how your family is, right?

  well guys sorry i haven't participated much lately, i've been really busy.

  but, i do have a question that i would really appreciate all of your input on.. it is no secret that young people are leaving jws faster and faster.

  it is no secret that most jws are disappointed, and hurt by lack of prophecy fulfillment.. so here's what i was thinking: i'm going to post some very personal thoughts on what *i* think they need to do in order to stop the loss of almost 50,000 disfellowshipped and probably 4x that to inactivity.

  Are you Ex's still Christian?

  whassup guys.

  i've spent most of my web time over the last 2 years at another site full of ex-jdubs...i'd say about 50 people post there on occasion...many of that number regularly.. what struck me from the beginning, as i got to know the people posting there was...how many were now atheists...non-believers in god...the bible...pretty much anything they once held sacred as jw's!.

  i dare say...90 some % do not consider themselves christian now!.

  No, I'm not christian anymore. I'm not even shure about god's existence anymore. The bible is not inspirated in my opinion.
  We had a similar topic in a german forum lately, and it turned out, that a big part have no religion anymore, even a lot are atheists.
  I study books about evolution, biblecritics, history and so on...the knoweledge from this book turned me away from god...

  don't forget, you're not alone...My story is quite similar to yours..
  I felt like you:"funny thing is though, it never really felt REAL to me....it never touched my heart"
  We, my wife and me lost a big part of the family too just a few months ago.
  You are in the situation, wheter to pretend for the sake of your family or to follow your feeling. Once if saw the WT from another view, there is no way back anymore.
  Even I would love to be togehter with my family again, I can't go back and pretend something...
  Hope, it helps you to see some others in the same situation.

  hi-i have a question for everyone.

  i was just wondering if your life has improved since you've left the org?

  for me i left when i was 17, went to college, met a great guy who i live with now and have a ton of great friends.

  When I see my neighbors running three times a week to the meetings, I feel sorry for them, but free for us.
  We still have to find some new friends, but thats just a question of time...
  Our family cut down contact with us, which is hard to take. They are extremly strict, I don't think they gonna change their mind in the future. That takes a part of the new happiness away...

  When should you Disassociate yourself?

  i have been having discussion with my sister (relative), who is an active witness, about writing a letter of disassociation.

  the reason being is that i have not attended the meetings in over a year and it's been 4 years since i have went out in the jw ministry.. i going to try to sum this topic up.

  my sister think that i should not da myself because i have not done any immoral act in her thinking.

  In order to continue relationship to my familiy, I didn't write a letter of dissasociation. I did write a letter to the elders to inform them, that we wanna have a break of all activities.
  But my family is very extrem. They face us as bad influence and reduced the contact to a minimum..
  So, what hold us back to leave 100%?

  Is it Biblical to Shun??

  i'm not a witness, but i know one very well and we have had many discussions on various topics.

  we would both like to know, however, if it is biblical to shun the disfellowshipped/disassociated?

  where in the bible does the society base the practice of shunning or groveling back for a long period of time if a person is sorry and wants to return to the church?

  hello
  in this point, the first christians did act in about the same way.
  They were known among the pegans to separate families because of religion. Severel first centuries literature confirm that fact!

  But, since I don't believe in the bible as God's word and Jesus as God's son, I don't care aniway...
