Oh I see. You are right. It is only because of being shunned that Ari committed suicide. How could I not see that? All of us, including myself, who are being shunned by family, are committing suicide. It's the Watchtower's fault.

What simplistic nitwits you are who think this. Ari's death is a tragedy. And you are cheapening it by not understanding that and by not understanding that when someone commits suicide it is rarely due to a sole cause.

Respect the man and what he stood for. There is no doubt that he was torn and anguished by being disfellowshipped, just as we all are who are in the same state. But to use the occassion of his death, as an excuse to post on this thread or others your views regarding disfellowshipping does nothing to honor him and only detracts from what should be a positive memorial to him. I called you out on that and now you would like to give me black eyes, etc. - perhaps because you now and should feel guilty for such crass behaviour.

I say again Ari was a human being and he deserved better than a politization of his memory.

Wow JeffT, I didn't read your post but I guess we were on the same page. I like your ideas too but they might be a little too dramatic. Before you know it the lady might have her parent's convinced that she is the one demonized and she might be out of the house with the freeloader sliding into her place.

Howdy,

Ok so I guess from your post to the other thread that you are walking a fine line as far as appearances and all so you are a little limited in options like some that have been suggested.

So here is just a suggestion for you which sounds crazy but just might work.

Is there any way that you can "demonize" her stuff. What I mean is maybe you can say that you saw her table move, or something like that. Being new and it being your parents house she unlikely to call you a liar or challenge you too strongly and if you are a good actress...

If you can convince her (or your parents) that her stuff has demons, she might get rid of the stuff or maybe even want to relocate if she thinks the problem is with you.

You could also try accidently "contaminating" her stuff. For example, you could probably pick up some books from the library (they can be pretty harmless like on Greek mythology or something) or some strange object at a garage sale and just "happen" to place it on her table, etc. thereby transferring the evil.

If this woman is superstitious/overly-righteous JW she might fall for it, unless of course her materialism outweighs such concerns :-)

It's worth a try and you might have fun haunting your own house. If you get caught at it you could always make like it was all just a prank.

PS: if the above doesn't work talk her into having a yard sale (and use the opportunity to get rid of your junk) and say that the money is for her to help support herself when she goes to server where the need is greater. (Keep the money from your own stuff naturally.)

I resent your implication. there is nothing in my comments derogatory towards Ari or pontificating in any way; and I have as much right as anyone to put in my two cents on any topic, not just legal/philosophical issues.

All I am saying is that, I think it is a shame that someone would use his death as an excuse or opportunity to take a cheap shot at Jehovah's Witnesses. Ari was a human being before he was a Witness or ex-Witness. His death is a tragedy as is every suicide by someone not suffering from terminal illness. I hope anyone who reaches this point of despair will take Dave up on his generous offer or reach out to anyone in their life nearby.

This is really sad.

I feel for his family and especially for his daughters. Now they will not have the opportunity of getting to know him adult to adult and perhaps exploring why he made his choices and felt the way he did about the religion.

I think it is unfair for persons to blame Jehovah's Witnesses or DFing or the Society for Ari's suicide. Thousands of us are DF'd and we are not all taking our life. For someone to make this choice involves a host of reasons that differ with the individual, and while being disfellowshipped is certainly a tremendous grief and strain for some, it is almost certainly not the only factor involved. No one can say for certain that he would not have commited suicide if there had not been any shunning by his family. Most likely there were a number of things weighing upon the man and it is a tragedy that there was no one that could intervene, but we do not know what was in his heart and mind or his circumstances or whether he was truly well mentally.

Yet, it is at times when we are in the deepest pit of despair that we need to be able to reach out to our loved ones. Even though his daughters, ex, or family may have been there for him had Ari done so, if in his mind he wasn't able to because of being disfellowshipped, it is yet another reason why the practice must end and why all Witnesses should refuse to comply with it or to promote it. To shun or not fellowship with another person should be a matter of personal conscience based upon personally known facts or circumstances. The practice as established within Jehovah's Witnesses needs to and must end there is no doubt of that.

For anyone that might be feeling anything like Ari was going through or who might be thinking of taking their own life, and most of us have thought about it from time to time, please talk to someone, anyone, and share your feelings and where you are at. And don't be afraid to ask for help.

what are your favourite computer games?

i want to buy some so what do you recommend?

i think simulation games such as those explaining how ancient civilisations worked are very educational and useful.

I like both the Civ series and Age of Empires - both are enormous time wasters. Make sure you feed the cat before you start up one of those. The new Civ IV came out, but it has some glitches. I have a good system that exceeds the recommended specs and I am still having problems with it running properly.

I like the Star Wars games, my favorite is still Jedi Academy so far. I have Knights of the Old Republic but I prefer joystick games where you can control the action for action games.

The Harry Potter games are great, Beware of Prisoner from Azkaban. It is visually great but those bozos didn't enable it for a joystick. I don't know about the latest.

The Lord of the Rings series are great too.

I also like flight simulator air combat games. If you like building cities, etc. I would definitely go for the Age of Empires series. I like Age of Mythology and there is a new Titan expansion that is cool.

How about some good old fashioned Chess. Doesn't anyone play chess anymore?

vast quantities of blood must be donated by non jehovah's witnesses to provide all of the blood fractions and medicines used by jehovah's witnesses and their children.

please help replenish the supply - give blood.. i was lead to believe that this was a red cross campaign slogan, but i clicked on the red cross link in ajwrb and i could not find this statement made on their site.

like many people, i have been a littlle puzzled by the actions and rhetoric of iran's president, president mahmoud ahmadinejad, in the face of what is beginning to seem an inevitable outcome of a u.s. led military intervention in iran's sovereign intention to develop nuclear technology.. at first, i figured his comments regarding israel, etc.

could be dismissed along the lines of president reagan's calling the soviet union an "evil empire" but then recently i learned that president ahmadinejad actually holds very strong messianic beliefs which might explain why he seems eager or at least willing to allow the present crisis to develop to that point.

i never thought i would do one of those infamous goodbye i cant take this board anymore posts where the person shows up again a week later and looks like an idiot.

when i had enough of this board and needed a little break i would just quietly leave for a few months and hopefully nobody noticed.

that is not the case this time.
