Great story, Elyse! I'm thankful for your granny's sake that you're there for her. Yes, shower her with love and gifts because you'll miss her when she's gone.

so my grandma, a very devoted and loyal witness since she was in her 20's (?
) is now 92 and in a home, because she has very advanced dementia and alzheimer's disease.
she has better days than others, most days she just sits and stares... she doesn't recognize most people she knew.

wishing all who celebrate a wonderful and festive day tomorrow.
djksasha is ready for a feast wearing her favorite bib.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am very thankful for all of you (or y'all as we say back home)!

i always add butter, brown sugar, pecans and marshmallows.
sometimes i whip them like mashed potatoes and sometimes i cut them in chunks.
any other ideas?
Nutritionally, sweet potatoes are a better choice. Some people use "yam" and "sweet potato" interchangeably, but they are not the same. I agree with the poster who said just bake them and let your guests top them as they see fit.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

one rule our hall had was that families with young children should only sit in the rear of the hall.
if a baby got fussy, the attendant was to go to the mother and ask her to bring the child in the library or "backroom".. also, disfellowshipped persons were to sit in the back of the hall and if they talked to another df'd one in front of the congregation members, they were threatened with not being allowed to get reinstated and having a lack of humility.. did your elders make up certain rules in your hall?.
It sounds like there were some bright spots in that "horrible life!" You go, girl!
if everyone who is signed up for the sectret santa can post a few ideas of the sort of thing you like in here, when people receive their names they can come in here and look you up so get some ideas .

Jewelry is the only acceptable item that requires storage because it's small, and one can never have too much. Otherwise, I would food or fragrance because they get used up.
Favorite colors: Purple, Blue, Red
Thanks.

yesterday afternoon i took my daughter to a beauty school to get her first perm.
she has been wanting one for a while and i've been resistant until just recently after taking her to a school ice skating party and viewing her classmates...it was time to do this.
i watched her sit in that chair the whole time, watching her go through the process, she enjoyed the whole thing.
As a straight-haired person from a family where curly hair was considered the only "pretty" kind, I got perms from the time I was a single digit in age. It didn't seem to do any harm, not even psychologically.
Good for you and your daughter, Mrs. J. A gal should do what makes her feel good about herself.

I'm in Reno, avi. I was never a dub while here. When I was a dub, I was in Tennessee and Ohio. Nevertheless, if you're in town and are capable of enjoying the company of an old lady for a bit, I'd love to meet you. You can tell me all about Burning Man! I can make my friends think I'm dating a younger man.

it's mine, mine, mine!!
mine i tell you!
(that would be jehovah, in case you're interested.).
Fort Knox and the Black Hills of South Dakota as well as other places that don't come to mind presently sound like good places for Jehovah to visit. He's wasting his time at Kingdom Halls, if he goes every Sunday from now until his cult self destructs.

it is very tempting to ridicule the jw habit of setting dates for the end of the world/ armageddon/ great tribulation.
but prophecy has been a significant part of the judaeo-christian panorama.
there has also been a great deal of tension between "prophets" and "preists".. .
My understanding of what a prophet is must be different from yours. The prophets tell us what we're doing wrong and what the consequences are likely to be. Psychics and soothsayers make weird predictions which, from time to time, might come true by sheer coincidence.
That's my $.02.

i was just sitting here laughing, thinking about how disapointed my father must be in me... what?
for figuring out it's all crap?
that's what tortures me the most, i really didin't want to let anyone down, but damn, how long could i lie to myself?.
Easier said than done, but don't worry 'bout it. It is so frustrating to realize that people are disappointed because you have honesty and integrity -- the real kind from within, not imposed by some narcissistic, arbitrary, authoritarian autocrats. You have to live with yourself, buddy, not your dad. That's the ultimate reward.
Ever your admirer,
