  using kindle/ tablet/ iPad in meetings how to police?

  i've noticed about half my half are using these.

  of course there's always the potential for people to be looking at things non jw on them.

  are the society going to find a way to police this?

  This entire discussion is bizarre - adults worrying about whether people are spying on them and going to turn them in. If this were happening at a regular church, nobody would be worried about what someone else was doing.

  It reminds me of the time my elder ex-husband asked me why I didn't stand for the prayer. I told him this was not Catholicism, so I didn't think we had a ritual. Later, I attended a Catholic Church, where there is a formal ritual, and people knelt, sat or stood as they saw fit, without anybody questioning their individual choice.

  They (JW's) have people spying on you everywhere you go anyway, at least if any fellow dubs are around, so get over it. They spy. That's what they do. As is often said here, It's a CULT!

  There's an easy solution, purrpurr. Look at non-JW websites away from the meetings, and you shouldn't have a problem and can have peace of mind at the meetings.

  Bethel experiences sound like a prison sentence.Why even go?

  when i read about bethel experiences my mind go to the show locked up raw!.

  why would someone subject themselves to this without commeting a crime.. the wife and i went to see bethel in broklyn a few years ago and it was unlike anything i expected.

  very cold.. went the bosert hotel and was talking to a brother there and asked how long he had been there, he said 25 years...i asked how old he was.

  "Way back when, there was a Bethel couple that moved to our congregation in Tennessee. The brother had learned a skilled trade at Bethel and was able to earn a decent living. I'm sure that not everyone has this advantage.

  If you can't go to college, it's at least a way to learn some job skills, at least for the guys. I think the women get to clean and do laundry.

  Could it be that Jehovah is punishing me for leaving his religion?

  i know it's a completely absurd thing to say, but something happened to me today that triggered the old cult reaction.

  my mind instantly lapsed back into that of a jw and for a split second i thought that because i wasn't doing jehovah things that jehovah's blessing had been removed from me and this is why my life seems to be running into so many dead-ends.

  as a jw i attributed anything good happening to me to being the result of my being a good jw and dutifully doing everything the borg teaches.

  Thomas Edison was told that he was too stupid to learn anything.

  Elvis Presley was told that he would never make it show business. So was Lucille Ball.

  Abe Lincoln ran for office 26 times before being elected.

  Einstein didn't talk until he was 4 or read until he was 7. He was considered lazy by his professors. He couldn't do math in elementary school.

  I could go on and on and on. Failure is simply a part of life. If anyone has never experienced it, he or she has missed out on some important experience. Someone put a post on Facebook recently that said something like, "If we were all judged on how well we climb a tree, every fish would feel like a failure.

  We all face the challenge of finding what we do best. Then we face the challenge of findng work in that field.

  Don't take any of this persoinally. It means nothing beyond just what it is. Almost everyone has had a similar experience, whether or not they've ever been associated with JW's.

  Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start again!

  My wife sees the lack of love and.. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

  in the past few weeks, my wife has been seeing more and more the lack of love and caring from jws.

  for example, she is organizing a "princess party" for our 4 year old daughter.

  a couple of the parents have expressed reservations about this since they think princesses may be "too magical" even though we know they have been to disneyworld, and watch the disney channel.

  Great suggestions so far. You might also have one night a week when your family has a movie night or a game night. Dinner can be sandwiches or a delivered pizza so everyone can relax.

  If she misses a meeting, do something special with her. Make her feel "rewarded" for doing what is in the family's best interests. You could buy her some flowers, listen to some of her favorite music, dance in the living room - anything that would take her mind off the burdensome meetings.

  Do you read? If you read "worldly" books, talk to her about the characters in the book you're reading, describe their struggles, and make those struggles sound like the same kind of problems JW's have to deal with. I don't think it would be a great idea to be really direct at first. Just keep it focused on the book, and let her draw her own conclusions. One good choice might be A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich in which there is a portion when the main character is questioning his beliefs and actually asks himself if his whole life might be a lie. I read that excerpt from the book when I was still in, and it set me to thinking!

  I hope you're going to help out with the party. You might read the kids a princess story at the party. Does your daughter have any books about princesses? You can also do things like pour the punch, clear the plates and cups, or anything that would be helpful and mke the party more fun for the kids and less stressful for your wife.

  It is appalling that anyone in this day and age could actually state outright that one human being's purpose in life is to serve and placate someone else. Mr. Herd should know that is not even plausible as an outlook on life!

  Believe it or not, we probably live in the most peaceful time in human history. I recommend you take some history courses and learn what chaos the world has lived in for thousands of years. Simple villagers used to be invaded, their entire villages destroyed, their people raped, kdnapped and/or killed.

  Not only is the world's past violent, but it is also unhealthy. The average life span in ancient Rome was about 27 years. Now, life is just beginning at 27! There was poor sanitation and filthy living conditions for many people throughout history.

  We are the lucky, the blessed, the winners in world history. JW's are so uneducated about the realities of life in the past that they don't know how good they have it. Don't let them get over on you. Give them some historical facts, or just ignore them. They are clueless!

  the influx of new posters made me wonder if the push to view jw.org is helping curious ones find this support site?.

  please post whether you found jwn during an internet search or if someone told you about it.. i myself was directed here by a df'd family member once i shared my doubts with that person..

  In 1997, my daughter and I got onto the internet for the first time. She found a board for ex-JW's called H2O (Hourglass 2 Outpost), which had started out as a pro-JW site. "Apostates" had taken over the site, and there was wonderful information and fascinating people there. Little by little, that discussion board either went away or so many people didn't post anymore that it was no longer any fun to go there.

  Fast forward to 2001. I was looking for an ex-JW discussion board again. I may have used a search engine, or I may have found a link at Freeminds. I'm not sure how I found this particular site, but it started with H2O.

  I realized I've been *hit on alot

  about a month ago, i realized that i didn't really care about my still-in jw family.

  i just want to be left alone by them.

  they caused me so much grief.

  Wow! The more I learn about other families, the more I realize how much alike we all are! My story is somewhat similar to yours, but not quite to the level of yours.

  My parents are deceased, and sometimes I feel guilty that I do not miss them at all. I feel evil for even confessing how I feel.

  The rest of my family I left behind and moved to the other end of the country, Here I have my daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. We feel like the family outcasts, but it's really for the best. My mother's "love" was possession and toxicity. My dad was narcissistic. My brother and sister are both on total disability and hardly able to function in life.

  Like me, you can be proud that you have pulled yourself up by your own bootstraps and left the poison behind.

  Life can be wonderful. We are making a wonderful life, and I believe you are, too. Congratulations!

  Wife and Kids at Meeting

  so wife and kids went to meeting while i stayed home because i am on a religious cleanse.

  i feel really sad and lonely but i know that it is for the best.. on a side note, doe anyone here still agree with jw doctrines?

  Paris: Welcome to the forum. Are you an ex-JW? Some people on this forum have never been JW's and we welcome their sensible perspective. We hope to hear more from you.

  lambsbottom: Take it easy. If you want to attend a Christian religious service and have never attended one, you might wish to start with the Methodist Church, as it may be the least offensive in terms of being middle-of-the-road. Personally, I love the Episcopal Church, but it might be a bit much for someone just exiting Watchtower indoctrination because it is ritualistic, much like the Roman Catholic service.

  For now, keep reading and researching. If you have a college nearby and want to take some courses in Religion or related topics, that might also give you a good start. I took NewTestament and Old Testament survey courses, and courses entitled Introduction to the Study of Religion and Psychology of Religion. Your mind will open gradually and you will shrug off the brainwashing little by little as you go along.

  Best wishes with your new life of freedom and free thinking!
