  Roger Zelazny on Guilt

  i'm visiting my son and his wife for a week while on vacation.

  for the past few evenings, after we retire to our various sleeping quarters, i've been reading an old copy of analog magazine which i found on his extensive bookshelf (their library fills two walls from floor to ceiling).

  analog is, or was, anyway (this issue is dated november 1975) a science fiction/science fact magazine and served mainly to provide genre afficionados the latest offerings from both sci-fi luminaries and young up-and-comers.

  Hi, COMF and joelbear! I just saw the play "Big River" the other evening. It was based on Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn." Huck went through the very thing you guys are talking about. Helping a slave to freedom was what he knew was right on the inside, but he still felt guilty because the "respectable" people of his day had taught him differently.

  Guilt is useful, but needs to be analyzed properly.

  When The Society Bashed JFK.

  back in the 60's, when i was a wee laddie round about fred halls age, the wtbts started to pee their pants at the thought of a roman catholic becoming president of the usa.. we had lots of talks and prayers about how our american brothers would be persecuted if jfk were elected and a series of anti - catholic articles started to appear in the magazines.. there was an awful lot of hot air about this being a "sign" of something or other, can anyone recall any of this or throw some light on the subject?.

  Despite its "apolitical" stand, the WT seems to concern itself with matters about which it says it is "neutral."

  I was pre-JW before the Kennedy election, but attended some fundamentalist Christian churches where there was a lot of balderdash preached about how the election of a Catholic would mean "closing the doors of the Protestant churches in America."

  What will they say when we get a Muslim president? Or, worse (shudder) -- a WOMAN! OOOOOOOH!

  Past my prime and now I'm tired

  ok, so i became a jw when i was in my mid 20's.

  i was in my prime.. i was so busy being a witness, taking in the truth, pioneering bla bla bla that i feel like i've missed out on life totally.

  now i'm pushing 40 and i'm tired.

  I'm in my 50's now, but feel more energetic and alive than ever before. My daughter and I had a conversation about how "ill" I always felt when I was young. My very wise daughter said, "But, Mom, you weren't allowed to say you were just miserable and living an inauthentic life!"

  what helped you guys get over your anger of being shunned, dealt with unfairly, ignored, etc?.

  I takes time. When life starts to get more sane and you start to feel more in control, you'll start to pay no attention to the opinions of people who are misled or for whom you have no respect.

  Jeans or khakis and t-shirts, sweatshirts or sweaters mostly, pantsuits for business wear, a few glittery tops and some velvet pants or velvet jumper for special places.

  i cannot forget this little girl.. ezekiel 34:12 this is what the sovereign lord says: i am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for my flock.

  i will remove them from tending the flock so that the shepherds can no longer feed themselves.

  i will rescue my flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for them".

  This story is so terrifying that it proves that truth is, indeed, stranger than fiction, and how much evil can reside within people who see themselves as "good."

  I have a strange feeling that the same people who murdered this child would be horrified and outraged if an intruder had come in and done something similar to an adult, who could at least defended himself or herself.

  When WT legalism / poor excuse for theology blends with twisted minds, this is the horrible result. The WT (back when I used to read it) always stressed the alleged importance and appropriateness of corporal punishment but failed to take into account the possible results.

  Yes, report child abuse.

  i read not long ago that the wts rakes in some big bucks every year from sales of printed materials.

  can someone please help me understand who pays for their materials.

  in the country where i live, it seems they distribute their literature free of charge.

  Armageddon Question

  on one of the you know threads you know refuted the oft quipped line here that jehovah will destroy 99.9% of humans at armageddon.

  he said that in actuality the king of the north would be doing the destroying and that jehovah would be stopping it short before it annihilated all mankind.. this was news to me.. my understanding was.. 1. peace and security declared.

  The Already Tired Argument of Bin Laden's Guilt

  there has been several threads since the start of the war on afghanistan (and before it), concerning the issue of bin laden's guilt.

  many have seen the obvious, that he and those who harbor him, are guilty, and that the attacks on afghanistan are completely justified if not the only choice for the u.s. still others claim the ridiculous notion that "evidence" should have been presented to the taliban first, and a "trial" should have been held for bin laden before any actions were taken.

  i realize most readers on this forum could care less, and the fact remains that the few of us who have argued these points are pretty tired of talking in circles.
