  Zebras (Awake! magazine Jan 2001)

  well, weve been in our new house now for almost two years, and we finally got our first visit from the witnesses, a couple of days ago.. two very nice middle-aged ladies stood on my doorstep, asking me would i accept their two magazines for free?

  - they were old issues from january well, how could i refuse?.

  its gods will that zebras are striped and thats the beginning and end of it.. for an educational magazine this is just a disgrace.. can you hear the voice of the great teacher in this?

  Ha ha. Funny stuff. I haven't seen a Witchpower or Asleep rag in years now. Thanks for the update - not that it sounds like much has hanged!

  for those that are dis-fellowshipped or dis-associated: do you speak to jw's even though they know you're disfellowshipped or dis-associated?

  Smitty, that's the way to do it. I think most JWs really hate the akwardness of being around DF'ed ones, and would rather not shun. So if you set the tone and act as if nothing's wrong, sometimes they respond to you the same way. Of course, it may be different if they are around other JWs, then groupthink kicks in and they don't want to been seen speaking to you.

  Heaven and Earth will pass away?

  like many, for years i understood the generation mentioned in matthew 24:34 to be an actual chronological generation that actually saw the events of 1914. this would mean that to be in a position to see and understand the events of 1914, someone would have to be at least 10 years old, and to be someone who actually fought in the great war, say 17 or 18 years old.

  this generation has passed away, as clearly brought home with the recent death of the british queen mother who was born at the beginning of the 20th century.. whilst i understand the so called change of thought of a few years back that now makes this generation a contemporary rather than a chronological one, i cannot see how the guarantee that heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away sits with a much vaguer contemporary one.

  if it is not possible to clearly define this generation, then this guarantee makes no sense.. has anyone heard of any new spins on the guarantee aspect, say from cos, dos, bethelites, etc, as the official lines have been particularly vague on this point?

  Yes they have left the term 'generation' deliberatly vague, since they have been so obviously painfully wrong about their last attempt at explaining it. To come out now with another date range for the 'generation' (for example, 1940 on + 70/80 years), would make them look foolish (as if they don't already). So they make the best of both worlds, now saying that the 'generation' is a time period or group of people ... I mean who really knows what the hell they're trying to say it is. I didn't understand it when they made the change in 1995, and I still don't. All I know is they are up to their eyeballs in BS.

  Interesting that the avg hours is now 7.9 for pubs. Used to be over 10 in the US not too many years ago. The pubs can't even be made to lie about getting 10 hours anymore?

  found out recently about the whole un/paedophile things.. never felt my input was much regarded.

  i guess i never did 'enough'.. not sure what to do.

  I used moving as a perfect opportunity to drop out of the JWs sight. It is about the only method that reliably works, keeps JWs off your back. The only downside is if family for one reason or another contacts your local KH and 'sics' the locals onto you. The toughest part will be saying "No mom, I don't go to meetings anymore".

  That may be all you need to say. Hopefully she will respect your desires and leave it at that. Though the 'encouragement' (read guilt trips) will probably be put upon you from time to time.

  You are just beginning to see the truth behind the truth, now is an excellent time to divorce yourself from the propaganda of constant meeting attendance and take a little time to search yourself for what YOU beleive, not what someone else tells you to beleive. The biggest thing now is to research as many other religions, ways of life, groups, etc.

  You will discover one fact ... people are the same in every group. Some are 'good', some are 'bad'. The 'world' is NOT what you have been taught to think it is. The nice thing about being free from the JW group is you are not forced into abiding by, and living the life of, people who should have no say in your life to begin with.

  i'm just curious...if you had the opportunity, who on this board would you like to meet if given the chance (or could without getting "in trouble"!)?

  (could be serious, could be fun...) i for one, am just sooo curious to meet the cat himself... just to find out if he's much different in person than in his online persona!

  ...and maybe pet him a few times in the process...

  wt has instituted the highest security measures from within.

  in the course of the last year security has been installed at the trunk or core line going into and out of all wt facilities.

  I can believe the part about them monitoring the telephone communications - in fact they've been doing that for awhile. Just now they have computers doing it for them. I would doubt they really care much about people who visit their web site however.
