Rem is right about Corporations not paying tax. A corporation is a legal fiction. They treat taxes as a business expense. The politicians love the idea of taxing the corporations more since it is an indirect form of taxation that folks like Azalo don't even know they are paying. Azalo is right, however, about the Corporate welfare. That needs to stop. Can you spell Political Lobby? Some countries rebate the taxes to their corporations on products they sell overseas. Ever wonder how Japan can undersell us on products right here in our own country? Ever wonder why so many International corporations are exporting so many jobs overseas? It is not just for cheap labor. I like the idea of a flat tax. It surely would put a lot of accountants out of business, however.

I can empathize with your situation which is chillingly similar to that of my own six children. I was in the Air Force and spent most of my time in Tactical Airlift. That meant that I was away from home a great deal and unable to greatly influence the situation that my children were living in. They were taught that I would not survive Armagedon and so were reluctant to get too close to me. Besides, their mother had subtle little ways to punish those who broke the rules by attending church with me. Sick? Of course it was! But it was accepted practice for Jehovah's Witnesses regardless of what Joker says. In her sick mind, she was acting "out of love" for her children. I chose to stay in our marriage for the sake of my children and because I love my wife very deeply. It was a good decision. I'm happy to say that five of my six are free from this sick religion and several post on this board. The other would be as well except that he is married to a JW. Although my wife is a full time Pioneer, the failure of the 1975 teaching seems to have had an effect. She is not so certain as she once was. The stress of the kids leaving the religion was very hard on her and she left me for a short time. However, her JW friends proved to be not so supporting as she had expected. It was an "eye opening" experience for her. She is able to maintain some relationship with the "outed" children through me. She relishes that and bends the "rules" as much as she can. After all, I am the head of the family.

Eventually a girl (in a simple white dress, of course) would walk across a tiny bridge over the stream to the side on which I was standing. I would ask her what it was that I needed to know. She would tell me.
And then you would look up her dress, I presume.

What does property cost where you live?
by ball. ini just saw on tv that a 3 bedroom detached property with swimming pool in florida costs the exact same as my 2 bedroom apartment on the coast in england.
i was totally suprised by this.
as there are quite a few american posters here, i am curious as to housing costs in other areas.

I have lived in the U.K., Germany, and of course the U.S.A.. I have found property costs to be much lower in the USA. It can vary widely by state. Property costs in Texas are about one half of those in California. Property taxes in Texas tend to be high as there is no State Income Tax. That may change one day. One reason that construction costs in Texas are so low is that Texas has a "right to work" law. Labor unions are very weak here. Also, homes here do not require basements as the weather is mild. That lowers costs a great deal. Most homes have 30 year mortgages. Right now the rates are just above 6% fixed and perhaps 4.5% variable.
Englishman-Why don't you and HL move to Texas instead of Wales. We have more posters per square mile here in the DFW area than anywhere in the world. You could buy a lot of house here for what you would get for your place in the U.K..

Your post reminds me of the lines from the Master's Notebook, contained within Richard Bach's book titled "Illusions". I'm relying on memory because I gave the book away. I think it goes something like this:
"The bonds of true family are not of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's lives. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof."
Happy New Year!

DID NOAH USE MAYAN CALENDAR/WORSHIP DAGON/ISHTAR?
by badboy in.
i understand that the mayan calender is supposed 2 go back 2 august 13 3114 bc.. i hope these people who say these things have got their facts right!.
the dagon/ishtar cult supposedly goes back 2 2500bc,110 years b4 noah's flood, did this cult survive noah's flood or did noah worship dagon/ishtar.

Remember that the Hebrews likely borrowed the flood story from the Persians. The Persian's account is a much older version. It is an example of "after the fact" reasoning. 1. There was a great flood which appeared to be world wide 2. Life existed after the flood. 3. Therefore, someone must have built a boat. 4. That someone must have had advance warning of the event.
In all likelihood, the flood event, though catastrophic, was localized. The explanation outlined on the Discovery Channel a few years ago is well supported by research and would seem to be reasonable. My favorite explanation of Noah's flood, however, is the one outlined by comedian Bill Cosby. I think Avishai agrees with me.

Don't listen to Frannie Bananie! She has been nipping the Dr. Tishner's antiseptic again. If you know your Louisiana history, you know that the Cajuns (that's short for Arcadians) stopped off in Nova Scotia before they moved to southern Louisiana where it is considerably warmer. I guess a few must have stayed behind.

Wedding....
by Out At 22 ini have been df'd for a little over a yr now.
i am living with my bf of over 2+ yrs now and we aren't engaged yet, but we've talked about it and know it's going to happen just not exactly when.
but anyways, right after my df'ing i asked my mom if they would at least attend my wedding someday.

My wife refused to attend the wedding of our eldest daughter who had been df'd. Her brothers and sisters also declined to attend. Very hurtful. I was able to walk her down the aisle as I've never been a witness. Her Grandmothers and cousins were there as well as her aunt.
