The whole concept of being "saved" presumes that you could be lost. I don't believe it. We are all created out of "God stuff" in the image and likness of God. How could God lose part of himself/herself? The only thing we need to be saved from is the illusion of separation from God and the belief in the reality of death.

Can someone be "saved" just by reading the Bible?
by somebodylovesme inawhile back, i read one of those pages with questions to ask jws.
one question was something to the effect of: "can someone be saved by just reading the bible?
" -- and the page said the bible says that this is true, but (obviously) witnesses teach the obvious.

Why weren't (aren't) we appalled that God required a human sacrifice?
by True North inapologists for the genocidal behavior written of in the old testament have often stated that its victims simply got what they deserved, and that they deserved it in part because their unclean religious practices included human sacrifice, even the sacrifice of their own children.
christians have long prided themselves in comparison to many pagan religions in that christian religious practice has never included human sacrifice and that christian principles would make one abhor such practices.
so why did we (do we) so readily accept the concept that the christian god would require a human sacrifice -- of his own son, yet -- before he would allow himself to be propitiated?

I'm not appalled because I think that the concept of God requiring a human sacrifice is ridiculous. I can accept the idea of Jesus needed to demonstrate that the illusion of death could be overcome and you can't do that without going through the process.

We are all made of "God Stuff". How can God lose part of Himself/Herself? Not possible! Each of us is a unique idea in the mind of God and ideas never leave their source. Despite what the churches might have you believe, no one is going to be lost. Will the path back to the Father be painful for some? You bet it will! Life on this planet is a "learning laboratory". Like the Prodigal Son, we may have to "slop the hogs" for awhile before we get our head on straight. The good news is that we will all be welcomed home.

This veteran certainly doesn't want Kerry in office. I'm in touch with about 40 retired officers and they are 100% anti-Kerry. Some of us aren't too fond of Bush, but feel that he is the lesser of the evils. One only has to review his voting record to realize that he is no friend of the military.

Going to court.... I need info/advice please...
by outbutnotdown ini haven't been real active here lately, but some might remember that i am going through a divorce with my ex, which, it seems will have to be terminated at a trial.
she is technically still a jw.... (not df'd but she publically despises the religion).. and her mother is a regular pioneer.
my ex is continuing to allow her mother to have a lot of influence over my kids, including that i recently found out that my oldest (of four) son's exercise book (that goes to school showing what he has been reading at home) had almost all the entries being from their, "greatest man who ever lived" book.

Better make sure that you have at least joint custody or you will have little to say about anything concerning your kids.

Do you think people are good?
by DanTheMan inis there any such thing as good?.
the watchtower taught us that all people outside the org either willingly or unknowingly support satan, and soon will die for doing such.
those are some weird goggles to look at people through.. do you find that wt misanthropy still affects your thinking, and makes you feel that the whole world is bad and hopeless?

All people are God's children created in and remaining in perfection. It is just that some express themselves as a**holes. I recall a remark that Ernest Holmes, the founder of Religious Science, made when he had been berated by a fundamental Baptist as a tool of satan and a thoroughly evil person. "Madam, what could there possibly be in you that you could recognize that in me?"

But slapping crap onto a twig and calling it a Snickers Bar is not being truthful. I could not longer feed that stuff to myself or my precious children who have suffered because of such hypocricy.
I love that analogy Corvin.

How many "annointed" JWs have there been since Russell started?
by True North inhas the wt org.
published any figures on how many faithful "annointed" they think there've been since russell got things started back in the 1800s?
would be interested in subtracting that number from 144,000 to see how many faithful christians the jws say there were in the previous 1800 years or so.

I've not seen the figures, but I would guess that more than 144,000 have claimed the status of being annointed. I'm married to one of them.

by luna inhey all..... .

Germany is a beautiful country and the food is wonderful. Never had a bad meal. I was stationed there for several years and also had temporary assignments for several months at a time in later years. The rail system is excellent, but the trains do run on time. If you are two minutes late you are going to be looking at empty track. There is a train station in the basement of the Frankfurt airport. You would probably enjoy a cruise on the Rhine River. The best way is to board at Rudesheim (near Frankfurt) and get off in Bacherach and take the train back to Rudesheim. You would be going downstream. Don't check your luggage on German trains. They treat it as freight. Keep your bags with you. Rail passes are not worth it unless you plan to spend a lot of time traveling. You would enjoy a visit to the castle in Heidelburg. Traveling second class is a good deal cheaper than first class and quite acceptable. Frankfurt has a really good Zoo. Astro_girl gave you good advice about the "Information Centers".

It is remarkable that the Gnostic Gospels are already in paperback while the Dead Sea Scrolls are only partially done even though discovered about the same time. Apparently when the cannon of the new testament was finalized the gnostics were under house arrest. The gnostics were not very concerned with hierarchy which made them unsuitable for Constantines purpose of controlling the kingdom through the church. Some of the beliefs of the gnostics were pretty far out, but some seem very valid. The Gospel of John has a very gnostic flavor and it is a minor miracle that it was included in the new testament.
