Quotes from the Watchtower that you agree with 100%
by nicolaou injust curious.
add your quotes with no commentary if you like, it should be obvious why you agree.. the dangers of being deceivedthe really sad fact is that very often the person who is deceived or deluded tends to hold on to his belief in spite of strong evidence proving otherwise.
perhaps he gets so emotionally attached to his belief that he simply shuts his eyes and closes his ears to any evidence that might challenge it.. the watchtower, 01/09/ 2010 p10/11.

Groups have a lot of latitude in their behavior. However, once you enjoy the tax benefits of a non-profit organizations there needs to be established a value to the community. The antisocial behavior of jws is the opposite of what should be considered community benefit.
So, they can do two things give up shunning and a few other antisocial behaviors (like letting their kids die) or give up their tax benefits.

Rumor: New light comes from outside marketing consultants
by Londo111 inthis is a rumor i heard back in november, it comes to me third or fourth-hand.
feel free to poke holes.
i have many doubts about this myself.

I am sure they use consultants for various issues - primarily financial and investing and perhaps even marketing. The look and feel of jw.org is one that required brain power not available from within. They may also be using branding consulting.
But I cannot imagine have outsiders tinkering with the new light.

Feeling disloyal
by stirred but not shaken ini've been visiting here for about a year or so, but didn't really feel compelled to participate other than reading the various posts that interested me.. there's been that uncomfortable feeling of being disloyal to god, the organization, many friends and relatives.. i've been associated since birth.
after 65 + years of service within this organization and actually enjoying that time, it troubled me to find myself wanting to express feelings that were contrary to all that time of "faithfulness".
those years were filled with progressive "privileges and responsibilities" even at a high level, and there was considerable success in our evangelizing activity.

Embarrassed by Aggressive Apostates
by ShempLives inxjw protests & videos.
.. i am disturbed by some of the more aggressive apostates posting videos on youtube, like "a jw memorial to remember" where a drunk man goes to a memorial and downs the whole glass of wine as a sort of protest.
this video and others like it received positive comments from aawa members.

Some of the things I see is not my style, but I don't think any of these embarrass me. My approach is very different but I can see why some may have a different approach; whether I agree or disagree is irrelevant.
I got my own stinkin problems and can worry what others do.
Someone looking to leave will look at the body of information out there and never based their decision on any one specific pissed of ex jw. To think otherwise is kind of silly.

It is now 2003.... Where is Armageddon?
by Nosferatu ini find it extremely amusing how each year is passing without armageddon.
"for the year 2000, i visualize a world transformed into a beautiful paradise!
but i don't think that either the present world or its rulers will live to see that day.. we are living in the last days of the system of things.

And by the way it is my birthday. I am 57, which means that I was 18 and a highschool graduate in 1975.

Did you ever write your disassociation letter?
by make yourself inbut never gave it to the elders or anyone in the congregation?
.
-

I did not write a letter. In the process of leaving I moved a few times; so I am not sure what my status is, nor do I care. I may still be an elder in one of the congregations. The last congregation I attended really has no idea who I am.
I have no desire to wrap things up with my Watchtower life. Not that I am thinking of going back but becuase closing the books only serves the purposes of the Watchtower, not me. I have moved on and really care about leaving a farewell message.
If anyone is intersted they can review the body of the comments I have made here over the past 13 years.
And by the way, it is my birthday - so Happy birthday to me!!

What if you were a member of the GB and you woke up
by enigma1863 inwhat if you were a member of the gb and you woke up and realized it's all bs.
what would you do?
i would try to change the org from within..
-
NewYork44M
If I was in control of a multibillion $ organization and woke up. Would I try to change it? Not the religions side, what would be the point. Changing the belief system is somewhat irrelevant... It doesn't matter - what matters is $$$$$
What I would do would be to secure assets and my position. If I needed to change to secure assets I would make the necessary changes. I would do the exact things we see happening now.
- Do away with as much printing as possible - too expensive.
- Create a legal barrier between the corporation and the idiot elders that get everyone in trouble.
- Force congregations to turn over property (Kingdom halls and assembly halls) to the corporation.
- Encourage volunteerism to reduce the cost of the corporation's realestate empire.
I suspect that the people in charge (really in charge) already know the religion is crap. They are doing what they need to do to secure assets, reduce risk, and find revenue streams for continued growth.
