This reminds me of a story that was told about a Airplane pilot flying in the airspace over Germany. He was speaking German to the Controllers and he was asked to please speak English (this is the international language for pilots to use to keep air accidents to a minimum) And he stated " I and German, my airplane is made in Germany and I am flying over German airspace, why is it you insist that I speak English!!!" A lone British voice came ver the airwaves and stated "Because you lost the BLOODY WAR !!!"

Has anyone ever started out a meeting like this explaining the term Cognitive Dissonance?

And then explain that you yourself , in the past, suffered form CG also and that is how humans put "questions" and doubts etc aside it is to lessen the dissonance.

I would explain it and explain it away so that at least this will stick in their minds.

I would state "When you lay down to go to sleep, I want you to think about the things in the past that you have had questions about and how you were able to easily dismiss them and to leave them alone, this was CG at work, read up on it" Or possibly there is some other way to implant a key element in their minds that may lead to them researching why they believe the way that they do.

Known Pedophile takes young boy to bathroom at circuit assembly....WTF?

my mil's circuit assembly was this past weekend.

she came over for dinner to our home after the assembly.

in conversation, it came up that a known pedophile was seen walking to the bathroom holding a young boy's hand-no relation to the boy at all, although that wouldn't make a difference!

life is survival.. striving for....survival.. what does a wolf do if it's paw is caught in a trap?

gnaws off the paw and escapes.. human mountain climbers cut their own limbs off to survive, too.. human intelligence searches for survival strategy in completely hopeless situations.. imagination comes in handy.. god is the ultimate strategy for escaping death.

god is invested with outside-laws of physics-power to help us cheat death.. .

Has the Watchtower been sued for defamation?

does anyone know if the watchtower or individual elders have been successfully sued for defamation follwing a disfellowshipping.

i know some have tried to sue for shunning, and their case had no legal basis.. what is the current platform announcment for a df or da?.

what about court action to recover past donations?.

I remember reading a posting here that talked about a JW who was DF and had an attorney write a letter stating that there would be a lawsuit if their name was defamed, paraphrasing here, and later she/he found out that a ralative was telling her/his son about the bad things that were done so they had proof of the behind the scenes telling of her/his story about why they were Df etc,..

I heard that there was a settlement, enough to put said child throught college, how ironic.

The info is on here somewhere, even the letter fromt he attorney was pasted here.

I'm pretty sure that there are many cases where a law abiding citizen has twarted a crime.

Just go to youtube and do a search for "911 calls armed" or something similar and also there are some 911 calls where the homeowner was not armed with tragic endings.

What will you do when someone tries to kick in your door at night? Call the police?

The world has a lot of crazy people out there that do not care one iota about your life. I think it is up to us to be prepared to protect the ones we love.

This may at times require use of deadly force.

Having a gun does not mean that you must use it, but it is there just in case.

Guns And Self Defense??

i know jehovah's witnesses can have firearms for defense, but does the church ever attempt to set guidelines on the use of deadly force?

also, are there jurisdictions in the church where handgun ownership is frowned upon?.

I own many guns, even carry a handgun concealed.

I once had a conversation with a young Jw about having a gun for protection and I gave the example of his entire family

being down on their knees with a mad man going down the line one by one and firing a shot into the brain and killing them and told him that there was a handgun sitting on the table and you have access to that the defend the rest of your family, what would you do?

His answer was " We are never allowed to take a life under any circumstances!"

I shook my head and said that I would take a life in that case. I was actually wearing a concealed weapon at the time, still do

A few days later he comes to me and tells me he was wrong with his answer, and that he researched it and knows that he would have been able to try to prevent the bad guy from killing his family. Could not believe it! He truly does not think for himself,.. must check with "mother" first. Of course his family would all be dead by that time.

Also remember, when seconds count, police are only minutes away!
