A Wedding Talk for Heathens and Christians
by og ini love weddings, and was quite honored when, in 2008, some young friends asked me to officiate at theirs; they said they wanted a belief systems & other bs style marriage talk.
honored, but also a little apprehensive.
for my radio show was known for espousing the weird beliefs of others along with my own godless philosophy, and while i knew this would play well in paonia, coloradolast redoubt of the unreconstructed hippieand that carl and kelly were spiritually liberal people with their own set of weird beliefs, i also knew that this would be a fairly large ceremony with plenty of people of conventional faith gathered together from all over the country.

Tarot & Rapid Brain Change When Getting Out of JWs
by og inabout six years ago, when self-extricating myself from jehovah's witnesses, i decided to follow robert anton wilson's advice in cosmic trigger, a life changing book for me, and explore taboos as a way to rapidly deprogram myself.
tarot was a great way to do that, as few things are more odious in the jw world.
i wrote up my remarkable experiences in an essay on my blog, tarot & rapid brain change which will probably be interesting to jw forum readers.. .

Death and Religion
by og induring the several years my father spent dying of a stroke, i was still a jehovah's witness but i was starting to think.
a few months before he died (he eventually refused nourishment and basiclly took his own life) i finally da'd myself.
later, i made the connection between a friend's death that i witnessed in junior high school and my initial attraction to christianity.

Hello Again
by og ini used to lurk and comment here quite a bit six years ago, or so, when i was just getting out - this forum was a huge help.
i moved on i guess, but have always been grateful for all the good information and support.
anyway, one of the ways i coped with the transition to a more normal life was to write and produce a radio show in colorado that allowed me to work through a lot of issues.

ratio of hours to converts in preaching work
by og in.
has anyone worked out recently how many hours of door-to-door work is being done in the u.s. per new convert?
i've seen this figure before, and would like to use it in a little essay i'm writing.. thanks for any help anyone can provide.

legal question
by og inso, after trying to make a religiously split household work for more than three years, i'm divorcing my wife.
and, she has apparently decided that since i'm obviously demonized and since her preaching work is god's will, anything goes in the settlement, including going after money my parents put into our home, which she knows was intended as a protection of their income.. and... since she pioneered for our entire marriage, and never worked 'secularly' she is going for indefinite maintenance (alimony).
so, here's my question: does anyone have an opinion about whether or not it's a good idea to try and establish that she spent far more time doing ministry than she spent on domestic support and child care?

Habitat for Humanity?
by og indoes anyone know anything about this organization, aside from the fact that jimmy carter is somehow associated with them?
i'm considering doing some volunteer work for them, but don't know really know much about them.
i believe they are "faith-based", which i'm not necessarily keen on, but they get people into houses and bypass government red tape, which i do like.

preventing baptism of minors
by og inhere is the situation: my wife is a very faithful true believer (and a wonderful person, i will add, who really wants to do what's right) i have been da'd about a year, and we have 2 children.
our oldest is 13, and really buys into the witness line ( as, of course, i professed to until last summer) and i am fairly sure she is considering baptism.
here is my question: as one half of her parents, is there any legal doctrine that would allow me to prevent her baptism until she is 18?
