  children, abuse, and the law

  today for work, i was scheduled to attend a training session called "mandatory reporting".

  since i work in the public sector and i work for children (as a child support collections officer) i am mandated by state law to "make a child protection report if [i] know or have reason to believe that: a child is being neglected or abused; or has been neglected or abused in the preceding three years".

  (quote from the handbook passed out at meeting).

  The issue with minor children here in michigan is the same. The cps will get a court order for the transfusion. I know a fifteen year old who had to have a transfusion. Her parents went to court to fight the transfusion, but they lost (good). She is fine now, probably would have died without it though.

  It seems that all JW's would be included in the law that you quoted for us. They are all legaly considered ministers in the U.S. (correct?) If this is the case, it seems they would all be exempt from the obligation to report child abuse and child sexual abuse cases to the proper authorities. It wouldn't matter if they were an elder or a ms or just a "friend". Although, knowledge outside of the elders is probably very limited. The society tries to keep a lid on child abuse cases.

  any one here get that sinking feeling when you were an active jw?

  i'm not talking about the point where we developed doubts about the borg, but just the shear weight of responsibility on your shoulders to uphold "god's kingdom" ala wts.. the topic of doing all you can was brought up frequently.

  some would try to sooth by saying "as long as you're doing your best, jehovah will accept you.

  questions from readers (w68 5/12 p. 86-8).

  * when jesus christ was a man on earth, did he wear a beard?-k.a., u.s.a.. biblical evidence is the most reliable testimony to be found on this question, and a recent careful review of what it says indicates that jesus did indeed have a beard.. jesus, born a jew, "came to be under law" and he fulfilled the law.

  I have a beard....

  I started to grow it before I became inactive. Many JW's have looked at me quite wierd. I never knew a little hair could make people treat you so differently.....

  it seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?

  for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .

  I was brought in by my boss. None of my family members are jw's.

  I know of only 2 people brought in by d2d work.

  as soeone raised in the truth my whole life i am struggling with a basic doctrinal issue.

  the issue has to do with universal sovreignty and the ransom sacrifice.

  Bible only for anointed

  when i would question my mother about certain scriptures, she would always make the comment that the bible is only written for the 144,000. is there any truth to that?

  (i know there isn't, but is that what the jw's teach?

  ) when she said that, i was just blown away because of all the years i was a witness, i had never heard that.

  Question re: children/adults <totally off to...

  this is completely unrelated to jw, but i would like to garner some opinions on this.... i was raised to call adults in the congregation "brother" and "sister.

  " non-jw adults were mr. or mrs. unless they advised me to call them by their first names.. we have a neighbor who allows her 3 and 4 year old sons to call my husband and i by our first names.

  my husband corrected one of the boys in front of his father, telling him, "please call me mr.

  I was raised to call people Sir and Mam. My parents were always mom and dad. Strangers were either Sir or Mr. _____, and Mam or Ms. _____. I always hold the door for strangers, and let the elderly get in front of me in line at the grocery store. I wish I were raised in the 50's. The 90's are (were) rough. That is where I spent my teenage years.

  My childeren will be raised to be very respectful to others. I expect their friends to be respectful of me.

  i recieved a voicemail from my bookstudy conductor last night.

  he wants me to agree to a shepherding call.

  i do not want to meet with them.. my question is if i do not agree to have this meeting with them, are they going to force me into a judicial hearing for not following the direction of the elders?.
