Finally getting shunned...
by bluesbreaker59 inwell my family has been doing it for a while.
but i found it really strange, that i live in an area of town with many jw's and still go to all the normal places, and yet i'd not seen them... last week, walking around downtown, i spotted my "step -aunt", (step mom's side) and she put her head down, and wouldn't acknowledge me.
then i rode up the elevator with her today, same treatment, thought today she made eye contact.

Well, I felt REALLY hurt the first time that happened. I DA'd in 2001. Now I make a point to say, "Hello." Makes some of them uncomfortable, but others are polite and at least return the greeting -- no long chats, mind you. I refuse to pretend I don't know somebody I was close to for years. I don't want a relationship with them anymore, but I do appreciate civility.
I suggest refusing to be shunned. It's very empowering.

Well, call me suspicious, but something in slv's post confused me:
I have offered to babysit while they go door to door but they won't hear of it.
I am not in the same city as my son or grandson.
Are those two sentences a contradiction?

Become a Watchtower Writer ! (sort of)
by AlphaOmega inhere is the challenge.... you are all well versed in watchtower logic and their ability to link bible passages that have no connections, so.... i was wondering whether anyone can post articles or snippets of articles that we could write in wt style to "prove" unlikely beliefs.. a good example would be the "are cats for christians" - however, i am not thinking of anything as long as that.. this will have a serious application - to show by humour that wt logic can be used to prove anything and still make it look scriptural.. any takers ?.

Tee shirt with foolish WT quotes, I will wear to reunion with witnesses
by dawg inas many of you know, i've been writing letters to family members telling them how damn stupid i think the gb is; providing proofs of all their comedic gaffs (building mansions for prophets and the like) including some of their most outlandish quotes-which i know all of us can remember verbatim.
spurned on by mary and others in this site, i've decided that i will try a new ploy.
my family reunion is every labor day and i've decided to wear a tee shirt to it with russell, rutherford, and franz's images on it... i will include images of a pyramid, beth sarim, on the front and 607?

Maybe you could have a picture of flip-flop sandals and superimpose:
Disfellowship for not screaming "Rape!"? Yes. No. Yes. No. .... (with dates?)
Will Sodomites be resurrected? No. Yes. No. Yes. ... (what's the current position anyway?)
and similar...

my profile
by BlackSwan of Memphis ini live in mi and was raised a jw.
i left officially in 05, but my thinking had evolved before then.. if you're at this board, you're probably asking questions, or have asked questions and realized that the answers are not what you had thought they were.. if you're looking at this profile, you probably read one of my posts.. i suppose there is only one thing i would want anyone to know:.
it won't replace the years you believe you lost to the organization.. live your life that you have now and enjoy it.. often this means making a new life.

BSoM -- You don't have to apologize, sweetie! As someone else mentioned, we are all at different points in our exit (or possible/hoped for/dreamed of exit) from the WT organization. We must all strive to be honest with ourselves and authentic in our dealings with others. It seems to me your profile was both. So, blessings to you, my lovely, and see you around SE MI. Love, out

There are many very lovely people here with whom to share one's feelings, foibles, and fears.

I'm so sorry to hear this, MsMcD! You have had a helluva lot on your plate. Don't forget that to be able to take care of others you need to take care of YOU.
Hugs,

I know -- Ms McD -- there's a whole dynamic here where I feel RESPONSIBLE for this man. I don't know why... I DON"T want him, truly. I DO want him to finish out his life as safe and secure and happy as possible. I want for him, what I want for me. I don't want bad things to happen to my kids' father.
I suppose by saving the furniture I am trying to save him (still! <insert rolling eyes here>) from himself. It's a role I did play during our many years together. So, force of habit? And I AM a sentimental sap in that I would be PERSONALLY distressed if things my in-laws gave to us over the years were unceremoniously put in a dumpster. I loved my in-laws very much PLUS I'm a bit of a packrat.
The more I read the comments here, the more I am thinking that perhaps I WILL just take what I happen to want and leave the rest to play itself out.... Yet 2 out of 3 kids think I should not only take what I want, but sell off the rest rather than it be of no value to either of us...
Perhaps it shouldn't be a dilemma -- but it sure feels like one to me...

"The Secret" - Movie
by Bstndance inoy vey!
so my friend made me watch the "movie" the secret last night.
it's basically a movie about the concept of visualizing and how we can achieve anything we want if we just picture it and not think about the negative.
