Will You Make Room for Pioneering?
by TMS inregardless of scriptural implications, creating special categories of service such as colporteur, pioneer, special pioneer, etc.
was a brilliant move.. the prestige, status and few little perks associated with those committing to being full-time workers is miniscule compensation for their sacrifice of time, lifestyle, income and educational opportunities.. yes, the hour requirements have dropped on several occasions.
how many on the board know that the regular pioneer requirement was once 150 hours a month, then 1200 hours a year, than 1000, now 90-vacation/assembly time?.

Should My Mother Shun My Daughter?
by Englishman ini don't know why i never spotted this before, but my daughter from my first marriage has just pointed out to me that her grandmother - my jw mother - has never ever contacted her since she was a child.
how would her grandmother respond if she - my daughter - made some contact?.
my first response was to say that i'm sure she would be delighted to hear from her, but then i got to wondering.

I'm sorry to hear of the situation with your daughter.
I can assure you that the shunning procedure would not apply to your daughter, for as you rightly say "She's never been a JW". So, organisationally, there is no treatment of her, whether good or bad.
So any ostracising of her is being done on a personal level i.e. your mother is using her 'Bible trained conscience' Both peaceloveharmony and Had Enough highlight the matter of 'worldly' (i.e. non-JW) associations. The R&F have an obligation placed on them by the Borg to demonstrate their loyalty 'to the organisation' by avoiding such contact. At least, from what I have seen this is how it's interpreted by many.
Probably your mother feels she is demonstrating her love for Jehovah by following the course she has. Of course, we all know that Jehovah's Witnesses don't break up families, don't we?
Didgeridoo suggested talking to your mother about it. Perhaps her conduct has never been discussed. She might even have a twinge of conscience after you speak with her about it.

Newbie saying hello and glad to be here
by Calico_Cat inhello, i've been lurking the board for quite sometime now and i have also read crisis of conscience.
my hubby and i stopped attending the meetings since december and had our first christmas in 6 years.
it was fun although the feelings of guilt are still within us.. we've been visited by the elders twice but we managed to keep them at bay.

As the day draws to a close the proclaiming of our welcome must increase!
So welcome here. I suggest you read the sequel "In Search of Christian Freedom". I personally found it a better read. The two books will help you two cats to clarify what you don't believe!
Hope you can replace it in time with true freedom.
In the meantime, enjoy your stay here. Most of us are harmless!

What about the scriptural obligation to preach?
by lookingnow22 ini've always been taught that each disciple of christ has a scriptural obligation to preach, and to do so in imitation of jesus and his disciples.
they did this by house to house, in synagogues, and in the marketplaces.
this is one thing that has always kept me close to jehovah's witnesses.

However, consider that there are non-JW Christian evangelical groups that have grown from a small beginning to EVEN LARGER numbers than JW's did by the end of the 20th century. How did they increase their numbers? How did they witness? Not door to door, but more by personal contact, word of mouth, and conduct (as did the first Century Christians).
I don't believe that this increase is ever acknowledged by the WTS. To what could they attribute it? If these days since 1914 are really the "last days" as taught by the WTS, how could these 'other' Christian groups expand so much, and without the formal door-to-door proselytising in the manner of JWs? Remember that Jesus promised his disciples: "I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things" (Matthew 28:20) Do the WTS accuse the other groups of being the 'weeds', whereas JWs are the 'wheat' ?Cheers,

by digderidoo ingeneral election...june 7....uk.
how will you vote?.....now that we are allowed to vote it would be interesting to see what political persuasions we have.. for me it is important to vote.
for years i have been told that i cannot voice my opinion....however to vote for me is one of our fundamental human rights.

this was pretty good for the writers 'cos they could count the time, and it was pretty good for the elders 'cos they had another regular publisher to in clude in the congregation's report.. what happens to us happy posters when we are 'shut-in', perhaps from a little accident, eh jan?
well we can engage in flooding the board with bulletins.

may 24 1997 wade thomas poyner, a prominent jehovah's witness in woodland, washington, is arrested for a lewd incident involving a preteen boy.
while not charged with that crime, poyner was charged for a summer 1991 rape of a 6 year old boy, and is suspected in nine other incidents involving preteen boys.
