Was it strictly legal to make wine at home ? not doubting you TD, but I remember reading somewhere that Grape Juice for sale had a warning on it of the dangers of it turning to alcohol ?? Which warning was more akin to a Recipe than a real warning !

by Davros induring a recent conversation i had with someone, a question came up that i really don't know the answer to.
did jw's still drink during prohibition in the us during the 1920's until it's repeal in 1933?
was alcoholic beverages considered forbidden and possibly subject to disfellowshipping?.

Changed From "Disfellowshipped" to "No Longer One of Jehovah's Witnesses!
by Atlantis ina friend is trying to figure out the approximate date or letter, which indicated a change from the wording of public announcements.. they changed from saying the person has been disfellowshipped to saying that a person was no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.. i thought it was around the time of the bulgaria scandal.. could you help us out to remember when this change took place?
if we could remember the approximate year, we could look up all the boe's for that year and might find the letter.. many thanks!.
atlantis!.

Was there ever a time when they used to say from the Platform the actual reason someone was DF'd ? I have a feeling they did, maybe way back in the 1950's or something ?
Can you imagine the shame of that, if it did happen ?
" Brother Phizzy has been Disfellowshipped for being a Dickhead on several occasions, a number in Public", that's how my announcement would have gone !

We in the UK are dealing with COVID all wrong
by LoveUniHateExams inyeah, so boris johnson has plunged the whole of the uk back into a second lockdown.
kids are still going to school (thank goodness!
) but this second lockdown is ruining the economy and killing small businesses.. the first lockdown was forgivable because, at the time, nobody knew what we were dealing with.. but now, we know more and more about covid-19.. it is lethal to elderly people (the average age of deaths with covid in the uk is 82 years - the average age of deaths without covid in the uk is 81 years).. it is also lethal to obese people and people with diabetes.. i'd imagine hiv+ people are another vulnerable group.. but to everyone else, catching covid is fairly similar to catching the flu.

I said this in a post earlier in this thread, and stand by it: " the Government are not dealing with Covid in any sensible way, they are now hoping the various Vaccines will extract them from the mire, which is to a great extent of their own making.
Throughout the last year the Government have been obsessed with keeping the Economy running, as opposed to saving lives. Their measures have been consistently too little and too late, and they are still doing it, delaying closing/controlling our borders FFS ! we are an Island, it would be as easy for us to implement as N.Z and Australia have. Even now, the proposed quarantining only applies to a List of Travellers from 33 Countries, of the four Countries to record the highest recent upsurge in Covid cases, only one is on that list ! Why ?
An inept and dithering Prime Minister and Cabinet is not what you want when you need decisive, strong leadership, and decisions made ASAP.

looking through the pictures of the interior sent me into a panic attack.

" Looking through the pictures of the interior sent me into a panic attack."
I don't get panic attacks about anything it seems, but it gave me a sick feeling in my stomach, that interior. It also struck me how cold, sterile and unwelcoming it was, as is common with every K.H.
No wonder some people came along for just one or two Meetings and we never saw them again. I once, when out in F.S all those years ago, asked one Elderly lady why she had done this, she said the Hall is an unwelcoming place, and the Songs are utter dirges, I had no reply to that ! She returned to her Methodist Church.

"ONCE YOU SEE THE TRUTH YOU CAN`T UNSEE IT " Take note JW.ORG
by smiddy3 ininspired by a previous post i wrote and thought it deserved a place of its own .. i hope it helps people on their journey out of the wt/jw religion .. their is no going back after discovering the "truth" about the wt/jw religion.. its the path of freedom from enslavement to a man made religious organization that was born in america, a nation that has spawned numerous charlatan religious organizations, especially in the 1700`s to 1900`s .and even beyond..

This is SO true Smiddy3 ! When I think back and analyse my eventual total departure from the Org, I realise that over the years a number of grains of real truth had got through to me, enough to cause me Cognitive Dissonance, and to eventually examine my beliefs.
I could not "unsee" those things.
As to people jumping into the fire from the frying pan, as mentioned above, this is because they clearly have seen the org to be a sham, but have not developed the Art of Critical Chinking, along with the skill of properly Fact Checking. This leaves them wide open to be manipulated by other scams, both Religious and Conspiracy Theories etc. it is the equivalent of someone coming off hard drugs and then falling in to Alcoholism, just SO silly !
Such people are now free to find Real Truth about all sorts of matters, but squander that freedom out of laziness, or an emotional desire to find something warm and fuzzy. I would rather live in the Real World, hard though it is quite often.

Are faders like me just cowards? Should I show my face?
by Witness 007 ini feel bad i just faded away and did not "come out" as an apostate hater.
my mum died refusing blood and still i hang back my wife still has witness friends and goes to the memorial every year..
-
Phizzy
I chose to fade, as I have close family that are enmeshed heavily in the Cult, and unlikely to leave, why force them to have to shun me ? That was my thinking when I left all those years ago.
But, I determined that I would not be forever looking over my shoulder in fear of them, that was no kind of freedom. So, I started to Vote, to donate blood, and to smoke cigars, all of which could have resulted in some kind of action. But, if it happened, so be it, it would not have been of my direct choosing.
I am now effectively DA'd , though I don't know if there has been an official announcement. I was told that I had " crossed a line", I did not enquire what that "line" was, I don't think it was any of the above things, I think it was more my outspoken activism on Social Media, where I pull no punches against the Org. why should I ? I have never posted anything untrue !
So I don't think I have in any way been a coward by fading, and I did achieve a good number of years " under the radar", whatever happens now does not worry me, my JW family are really DA'd by me now, I do not want to associate with them, because they choose to belong to a horrible Cult.

How many TRUE BELIEVERS do you think are left in the Organization?
by pistolpete ini have a few jw relatives who are true believers.
by this i mean, they believe with all their heart that 1914 was the beginning of the last days, that this is the last generation, that we are in the very last of the last hour of this system of things, and that you should obey the governing body even if it does not make sense.
all of them are in their 60s and up into their 90s there is nothing you can say or show them to convince them or even cause a small doubt that the wt is not god organization.

Good way of looking at things Vidiot, because it is the ones who are loyal to the Org regardless of almost anything that they learn about the org, and regardless of the doctrinal changes, it is these ones who will stick, and keep it going.
The 100% believer, or even high percentage believer, can be shown that their beliefs are rubbish, if they open their closed minds, and they will leave, if it was only that they thought it was "the truth" that keeps them in. The loyal follower, as with any Cult, will stay until the end.
It was that way in my case, a lover of truth all my life, but never a little grey "Society" man, I could no longer stay once the House of Cards that is the Org's beliefs and teachings, fell down,

U.K. Nurse Vaccinated With Covid Shot Has Covid Weeks After Getting Vac!
by minimus insomeone i know from england is a nurse.
she told me there was an outbreak at the hospital and she got the virus after being vaccinated.
she said she was told it probably would have been much worse for her had she not gotten vaccinated.
-
Phizzy
She probably got the first dose of the vaccine, which offers a bit of protection. The second dose has to be given within 6 to 12 weeks, and then one month after that you should be pretty well protected.

Jehovah`s Witnesses owe their existence to Christendom`s groundwork.
by smiddy3 in1.jehovah`s witnesses base their bible on christendoms determination of what books of scripture were to become what is known as the bible today, going back to the third century ad.. there were many ,many other books of scripture in existence at that time that these men decided in their own imperfect wisdom not to include them .. where it suited them the jw / gb would use the research of christendoms learned men who compiled bible dictionary`s and bible concordances.. 2.by far the vast majority of jehovah`s witnesses today are off-shoots of many of christendom`s religions from whom they poached members from and then gave birth to their own offspring to grow in numbers.. with all of there self praise of witnessing in all of the earth ,it is mainly wholly contained in lands where christendom has established the major religion of that land and jw`s have poached the most vulnerable people of that time.. 3.how many thousands of people have they converted in bangladesh ?
pakistan ?
china ?

You are just so right in your O.P Smiddy3 !
The J.W Org likes to present itself as something special, as though they are superior to Christendom and its Scholars. The truth of the matter is that ALL they are is plagiarisers and adaptors of the work of others. And they make a poor job of that !!
I could do better, working on the foundation laid before, than they do, idiots. Russell was an arch plagiariser , using the works of Adventists before him, and other works by loonies like Piazzi-Smythe with his Pyramidology. The Org ever since have not, in common with Russell, actually had an idea that is entirely their own.
They adapted ideas of others, who were members of Christendom, to come up with everything, except perhaps, I have to admit, the Overlapping Generation, yes, they thought that one up, and what a Doozy it is !
But for everything else they rely upon the people of " Apostate" Christendom ! ( as they call it ).
The problem they have had for a decade or more, is, where to go for inspiration ? The Scholars of Christendom and others who study the Bible or parts thereof, are becoming far more honest, and pointing out that it is all really Fiction. So, the question is, where will " New Light" come from ? They can no longer rely on a supply from outside, and no one in the org has the necessary knowledge or understanding to come up with a new direction for them.
So, they are stuck with trying to flog the dead horse of a 19th Century Apocalyptic End Time message that is WAY past its sell by date.
