My pet peeve about the memorial is their obsession with just once a year and it has to correspond with Nisan 14 as the same as the passover night. Then if you miss it you do it one month later per the law of Moses. Jesus said nothing about this. He just said "do this often in remembrance of me". I think Wt. has it all wrong about frequency and when it's to be celebrated. I think the concept of the Catholic Mass is overdoing it with frequency. If done too often it loses its importance, but once a year is too infrequently. I'm not up on how often Protestant denominations do it. I'm sure it varies from one church to the next. Google AI says some do it every Sunday, or monthly or quarterly.

What are some of the more exceptional self-authenticating claims made by Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by Vanderhoven7 inlet's start the ball rolling with two connected claims.. the religion of jehovah’s witnesses is the one true religion.
all other religions are satanic, including all the churches of christendom..

Vanderhoven 7: They are the one true religion. This is a consequence of saying Malachi 3 has an antitype. Now that the antitypes are in the dustbin they can't say they're the one true religion, but do you think anyone has even heard of Malachi 3 nowadays?

New GB member Judy Jedele critizing Job's "humility" while wearing $20,000 Rolex, gold cuff links, coloured suit. Incredible!
by WingCommander ini swear, you can't make this shit up!
for years and years growing up in this cult, i had to constantly hear from my parents, from the stage, in the literature, about "keeping your eye simple", not being "materialistic", not "having a showy display of one's wealth.
" of course, this never seemed to apply to the wealthy business owning elduhzzzz who ran and lorded it out over the congregations, but i digress.

I am a minimalist. If I were on the GB they wouldn't know what to do with me. I have to drag my iphone around everywhere with me for business purposes and it already has the time. Who needs a watch. I saw this youtube video that says a watch implies that chicks would be cool with you. I guess if that were true I might wear one for chick magnet purposes.

3 Elders in Brazil sentenced for disfellowshipping announcement
by liam in12 days ago 3 elders in brazil were sentenced for disfellowship announcement which is against the law in certain parts of brazil.
the first article discusses that.
the second article discusses the outcome so far.

What's so strange about this is that all the announcement says is that "so and so is no longer a JW". From a legal point of view that doesn't seem like a big deal at all. Any chance the elders overstepped and said more than they should have?

Did Watchtower Really Teach That Armageddon Was Coming in 1954?
by Jerome56 inin the march 2025 jw broadcast david splane in his morning worship talk mentioned that "some thought" that armageddon would come 40 years after 1914. such statements are usually meant to shift the blame of their own false predictions on to their members for speculating.
however, i was unable to find anything in print showing that such a thing was indeed taught by the society.
was this really a thing?.

I was only 4 years old in 1954, so I have no real time memory of it, but I remember my parents telling me about it a few years later. My parents were Gilead grads and missionaries before I was born. My Dad was a congregation servant back then so they were clearly in the know. They told me that it was a group of individuals not associated with the upper level hierarchy who promoted the teaching. I remember my Dad speaking of it rather sneeringly as he thought it was stupid, and that these people should not have gotten involved in it. Apparently a few in our local congregation had promoted it, but only a few. Today they would probably have gone up on charges of apostasy, but in 1954 they weren't as tight about these things as they are now. But my parents, to the best of my memory, were saying that this was a bottom up theory and was not a top down theory within the org, and apparently never had a widespread following. That's all I know about it. This was in one of the mountain states for us. Don't know how widespread it was through the country either. It had something to do with adding 40 years to 1914, like maybe coming out of 40 years in the wilderness, but I do remember my father thinking it was goofy theology.

Beroean Pickets - Is there a problem?
by BoogerMan inhaving watched the latest offering from beroean pickets - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpuelgtf4ka - i contributed the following factual information along with several consolidating scriptures:.
"naos - metaphorically the spiritual temple consisting of the saints of all ages joined together by and in christ,
of a company of christians, a christian church, as dwelt in by the spirit of god.

You would think that this is some big new thing. This was the so called apostasy of 1979-1982. For the great crowd to be in the naos means that they are in heaven, and Watchtower's pathetic Wt. article in 1980 to prove otherwise was abysmal at best. The umbrella term hieron which includes the courtyards of the temple (the earth) was proclaimed to be a synonym for naos, or more accurately they said naos could mean hieron and therefore being in the naos could mean in the earthly courtyards. What a joke.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Richard Strauss
Believe it or not the French archaeologist, Gerard Gertoux, who teaches archaeology at the University of Lyons and happens to be a Jehovah's Witness conclusively proves in a paper he wrote, that Daniel was the Zoroastrian prophet Zoroaster (Greek) Zarathustra (Persian).

Luke 23:43 the NWT
by Ade inluke 23:43 - and jesus said to him, "positively i say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.
nwt places comma here , giving a totally different meaning to the verse.
now the average jw uses this to back their doctrine and it seems in itself virtually impossible to reason with them on it.

Maybe I'm just being a simpleton, but since when is one in paradise when one is dead? This is not rocket science. Yet we've got 10 pages of discussion so far.

The Last will not be as bad you think
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/4sxc3gncea8?si=lrs70jrmduogxlwn.
hi guys today im considering the second part from david schafer's recent talk, where he goes through a few prophetic signs of the end and the most up to date understanding of the watchtower, i did cover on my last video the most up to date understanding on the "hailstone message" please go back and watch it and today im considering this very dangerous understanding the watchtower has developed recently that things can not get any worse.
of course, that's what happens when you isolate yourself as leadership from the daily struggle of your membership and you live carefree life in leafy upstate new york eirh everything paid for.

What annoys me about the expression "took no note" is that it is an eisegetical addition made by the NWT. If you look at either the Kingdom Interlinear or the interlinear at biblehub.com the expression is not in the Greek text. Most translations read like the NIV Matt. 24:39 "and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and swept them all away." The expression has connotations of seeing Noah build the ark and they knowingly ignored it when that is not the case at all. I think the Wt. injects this expression to justify their theology of God killing everyone at Armageddon, i.e. they had an opportunity to take note but didn't. Zechariah 14:16 makes it very clear that there will be non Christian survivors. The worst of the Wt wants everyone to die. As for the attack of Gog of Magog during the GT the NIV says a "peaceful and unsuspecting people". The word 'unsuspecting' is not in the Hebrew text, but I would say that it is there in thought. The attack should be a surprise attack. They should not see it coming, yet in the middle of the trib this peaceful and unsuspecting people is engaged in this hailstone message which has implications of a declaration of war! Really? Unsuspecting? I have some thoughts on the Gog of Magog attack but it isn't precipitated by a hailstone message.

Prepare to get Pelted by Symbolic Hailstones
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/idhmflud3p4?si=9xc4svrhxslduwvz.
so david schafer a member of the teaching commitee and a helper to the governing body has come out yesterday with a new video that goes through the king of the north, the hailstones message and other things in the wake of the possibility of a ww3 and especially now that tensions are escalating with russia so he is making quite a few end time arguments and i will be expanding on those one by one but today let's see what he has about the hailstones message of the end(video) so this is the paragraph in question, paragraph 14 from article 20 of the watchtower 2020 study edition: "sometime after the start of the great tribulation, “the kings of the entire inhabited earth” will form a coalition of nations.

Several Bible translations say of Gog that he thinks to attack a "peaceful and unsuspecting people". The word 'unsuspecting' is not in the Hebrew text, but it is there in thought if not word. However the attack of Gog of Magog happens in the middle of the Great Tribulation according to Wt. doctrine, and the hailstone message precipitates Gog's attack. Seriously? The hailstone message reads more like a declaration of war by a peaceful and unsuspecting people. The fulfillment of the Gog of Magog prophecy should be at a time when these peaceful people do not see it coming. It actually fits better with Daniel 12:7's "dashing of the power of the holy people to pieces during a 3.5 year period", Rev. 11's 3.5 years of the nations trampling upon the holy city, Daniel 7:25's 7th world power oppressing the holy people for 3.5 years and Zechariah 14:1,2's account of the nations warring against Jerusalem. And contrary to Wt. hermeneutics none of the above fits well with their interpretation of WWI of autumn of 1914 to spring of 1918. Arguably it fits better right now in real time.
