A weekend of bitter and unhappy apostasy......
by expatbrit inthis is district convention weekend in my area.
now, i know that in the good old days, i would get up early, drive to hamilton (an unpleasant place), sit all day on an uncomfortable plastic chair with no legroom and listen to the usual boring tripe regurgitated from last year, with only a short break to eat dull sandwiches.
then i'd drive all the way home, tired and cranky and hungry, eat something and go to bed, knowing that i would get to repeat the whole sordid process the next day!

Miss You Mom
by donkey ini miss you so much i just cant say how much i hurt inside.
i think back to when i was just a child and how you gave me the food from your plate when there wasnt enough for each of us to have dinner.
you always put me first, your joy in life came from seeing me happy, knowing i was safe and i had everything you could give me.. i miss doing my homework with you, the way you taught me to draw and how much confidence you always had in me and i still remember how you gave and gave until you had nothing more to give me.

My grandmother suffered from Alzheimers - and my mother is in her first stages. I've seen how this disease progresses, and it is difficult to watch. My heart goes out to you.
If there's any peace to be had with this disease, its that as it fully engulfs the person, their mind wanders back to very far away times, and their own childhoods. Their thoughts & memories are of loved ones usually long since gone, and in that there is happiness. She may remember you as her great uncle willy (or whoever) on occassion, but the memories will still have the "love connection".
And she has raised one terrific son as a tribute to herself - there is no greater legacy to leave.

Ex-JWs......full of hateful pride ??
by ScoobySnax inan observation...... recently someone asked "are we the most prolific exjw site on the net?
" from looking about and trawling around, i don't dispute that this site is the biggest, if not the most prolific.
(type in jw on a search and this site will appear) from an inactive point of view, i reckon despite the fact that there are some genuine people "hurting" here from past experiences, the majority of posts seem like some crusade against the wt and jws at whatever expense.

My point was that if the Watchtower had been more Christlike and loving, places like this would be non-existent or at least very small.
No truer words have ever been said. And you are absolutely correct. If that organization had not caused so much pain to so many people, this board just simply wouldn't exist. So you are correct in your original assessment imho.
My point was, that many different ones own personalities also contribute to these threads. We've all known the arrogant, haughty, self-righteous, trouble makers, game players etc. within the organization. Some of them were bound to show up here too. And in some cases, their true nature continues to shine through, even after they've left the WBTS.

Island Woman - I don't know that I could agree 100% with that - I think to some extent people are here the same as they were as JW's (except now they're allowed to voice opinions).
Some are kind, caring loving individuals. Some are trouble makers, with a much bigger playground. Some are hurt by the actions of WTBS policies. Some are just angry people, and would have lashed out in any environment - which is why they didn't stay JW either. Some are JW's, and carrying on their "righteous indignation". Some are just stupid (but I'm not naming names cuz I know mine might be at the top of the list!)

Civilization isn't all its cracked up to be - and never has been!
But, I do understand to some extent your points. All the patent "new found freedom of expression & opinion" comes to mind. Hurt, that's a good fuel for anger & hostility - you're probably right on that one as well.
But all in all, when the chips are down, except in a few cases, everyone rallies, and that's what counts in my book. Now in JW land, when the chips are down, the rest of the chickens in the coop peck the hurt critter to death. At least here they stand a chance.
