The original question was more to draw attention to the idea of how JWs would react if they suddenly saw their symbol incorporated in something that they see as symbolically evil. And the vision of the JW.org symbol incorporated into a Christmas wreath caused me more amusement than it probably would most here.

But, as is my wont*, I found out that the WT has actually been a bit sensitive about such things in the past, and there is a legal precedent. Apparently a Christmas album was released and it contained a song from the WT songbook that basically sounded kind of Christmassy. Well, WT Legal did their nut** and, of course, as is their wont, sued.

Back to the title, it's not just Christmas wreaths. The WT symbol on a large inflatable Santa would probably be funnier. Or spelled out in Rattigan's worldly Christmas lights:

i left the organization in 2017.. was in several congregations in the north west of england.

i just wanted to say thank you to all of you that have posted on here over the years, it really helped me to see the truth about the organization.

i lurked here for many years under an anonymous login and then finally plucked up the courage to write my disassociation letter.. adam.

Wow, that's pretty impressive! That you intuitively felt that their "fiddling with the settings" on peripheral aspects of the religion might be to divert attention away from something deeper. That's some sophisticated thinking right there!

Watch Tower PA sues Russia in DC district over confiscation of Bethel

the watch tower society of pennsylvania filed a lawsuit on september 3, 2024, naming as defendants the russian federation, the russian ministry of health, and the almazov national medical research center.

unfortunately, i can't access the case documents, including the complaint.

i would appreciate if someone with an active pacer account could make them available.. anyway, it is enough to know the almazov center is one of the entities sued by the wts to say what this case is about.

TonusOH, it might piss them off if it threatens financial assets held offshore that they were hoping to one day be able to use again. "Follow the money" works with high control nations as well as high control religions.

Convention attendance

just heard from a pimi cousin who recently attended a convention, and remarked about the low attendance.

peak was about 500. i remember that circuit, in years past, had attendances of 1000+.

it's been over a decade now since i last attended a jw convention.

i've been inactive for a very long time now (like 10+ years), so, i don't expect to hear anything from it, but my parents are worried i'll get df.

I had a bit more of a look into it and it didn't get any clearer 😕. The original prohibition was against "hot drinks", which was later clarified to mean coffee ☕ and tea 🍵. Modern Mormons apparently argue over the whole issue. Some won't drink caffeinated beverages of any sort, some probably don't drink decaf, others do.

It can be a problem when a founder creates an immutable law that doesn't make sense as society progresses. The SDAs probably find it with some of White's "revelations". The whole vegetarian thing was founded on the belief that a meat rich diet made one strong and virile, and it also provided fuel for the baser passions. Their vegetarian diet was deliberately intended to make people weaker, who would therefore have less energy to channel towards those baser passions.

Interestingly, defying the above rules would probably be seen as "following the world" by devout practitioners of the above faiths. And to an outsider, one who'd never been in, such a view would make as much sense as Rattigan's stance on Christmas lights.

* Nobody who's ever going to tell. Given the way Bethel leaks, it's impressive how well they've kept a lid on it.

so david schafer a member of the teaching commitee and a helper to the governing body has come out yesterday with a new video that goes through the king of the north, the hailstones message and other things in the wake of the possibility of a ww3 and especially now that tensions are escalating with russia so he is making quite a few end time arguments and i will be expanding on those one by one but today let's see what he has about the hailstones message of the end(video) so this is the paragraph in question, paragraph 14 from article 20 of the watchtower 2020 study edition: "sometime after the start of the great tribulation, “the kings of the entire inhabited earth” will form a coalition of nations.
