I married a stranger, did you?

in my current life i know a lot of people who live together.

some of them might have done this because they do not like marriage, and others have done this as a step towards getting married.

in all, in my post-witness life i find that i have no problem with either view.

You were fortunate, many earnest JW wives would be willing to leave husband than Watchtower/God.

The thing is, some times we think we are married a stranger. Yet years later we learn we married someone just like us.

I like this statement. I will say though, thank God I never dated anyone in my congregation that was like me (I never did like myself as a JW anyway). Still, congratulations on finding your similar half. BTW, I aways enjoy reading your posts Ken, you have a gift for writing, something that I had at one time and am trying desperately to get back. Hope everything works out with the baby...

Quick Build , Remember those!

i was wondering when the next quick build was happening in ontario, i think it is a great oppourtunity to spread some apostacy.

after i left the cong my employer was a jw and my dad worked there also and they asked me to go to one and help out with the electrical, so i thought that it was kinda my duty to help out as it would be a kind jesture and keep my job.

i think it was also my dads last attempt to bring me back and let me see the love again.

Well, despite my zealous reputation in the congregation, I successfully avoided every single quick build in my area from start to finish.

So the funny part was that I was working inside the hall and then all of a sudden I am the only one left and I`m thinking where the hell did everyone go!

You inadvertingly described one of the best dreams I ever had.... Wouldn't it be great if there was a meeting and nobody came...

I enjoyed reading your post today (hope you're feeling better sweetie). During my tenure as a fully fledged member in Hall of Hell I don't think I heard words as genuine as these: "If I could take away your pain, I would." Do you realise how lucky you are to have a son who loves you and a future daughter.

JWs' Top 5 Forbidden Movies

The top ten when I was a witness... Have no idea why "Shoes of the fisherman" was looked down upon Englishman.

1.) Schindler's List - The number one movie was also the most watched "R-rated" film by the witnesses in my congregation. Our presiding overseer took offense to any earnest witness that didn't take excpetion to watching this movie, even if they did so strictly for its historical aspects...

2.) Ghostbusters - More funny "one-liners" than you can shake a stick at. Still, those spiritistic elements were pretty offensive to some, no matter how funny they were presented.

3.) Showgirls - This was the movie that a lot of witneses in my congregation loved to use in order to demonstrate "the low sink of debauchery" Hollywood had become. Our local newspaper gave it 4 stars which only feuled their criticisms.

4.) Titanic - If you are going to watch Titanic brothers, keep your eyes on the sinking ship with all the people dying, and avert your eyes to the nudity.

5.) Star Wars - The few that took a good hard look at Star Wars were also the biggest protestors of a film that appeared to combine demonism with science fiction. Either that or all the phallic imagery...

A Teenager Tomorrow - The Pain Still Lingers

my daughter would be turning 13 tomorrow, if she were still alive.

it's been nearly 5 years since her death, and yet the pain and the sense of incalculable loss is still there.

her birthday is one of the hardest times of the year - one where the hurt really manifests itself - we should have been having a big party, but all we have to remember her by is a hard cold lump of stone with her name on it.

My Dumb Ass JW Brother

as some of you know from my sharing portions of my story on this board before, i disassociated myself from the jehovah's witnesses in 2001. my family, including my mother, sister, and brother, remain jehovah's witnesses.

i have an extremely limited relationship with my mother and sister.

i possess no relationship whatsoever with my brother, his wife, and their now 1 yr old son.

I've certainly observed this....with people who have left anyway. It really puts a monkey wrench in the beliefs of Dub-dom. (...or Dub-dumb as the case may be). I don't like giving the impression if having any sort of animosity for your brother, it's just that I know what its like to do favors for someone (regardless of their religion) and feel totally unappreciated (he could of at least said "thank you"....tell me he said thank you...). I'm sure all of us have helped a JW move....oh the memories... (sarcastic)

heavenly kingdom = government in Bible?

what's the difference betwen the kingdom that jesus mentioned and the government that is mentioned in daniel that will crush "all the other kingdoms".

is one a part of the other?

are they entirely different entities?

I never really thought of "the kingdom" as being the same as God's government. I enjoyes BJC's persuasive argument as well as Joseph's rebuttal. Still... a kingdom is really something that you rule over. When Herod offered part of his kingdom to Heroditas (?) he wasn't giving her a position in the government, she was how4ever, offered what he was ruling over. The same with the kingdom. I see the kingdom (at least in the context of the Bible) as being what God's government (in Daniel) rules over.

Handel's Messiah

i guess attending a perormance of the messiah was out, as far as dubs were concerned - does anyone know?

My old presiding overseer listened to it. They said there was nothing wrong with listening to it on a meeting part. However, Vivaldi was kinda iffy, him being a priest and all. I got chided by some younger brothers in the hall because I thought the four seasons to be quite beautiful. So, if you wanna be a rebel JW, listening to Handel's Messiah will not be as controversial as...oh...let's say listening to David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Husker Du....etc.....

High priced Kingdom Halls

trying different ways to make money while at the same time keeping up a front of not being interested in money.

I was searching through this site and found this post after an announcement was made at my mom's kingdom hall in AZ yesterday. Appaently, The RBC informed the elder body that they will need to fix the parking lot (for about $25,000), make changes to the foyer, the literature counter, the stage, the carpeting, the sound system and the seats. They're also going to add an exit door to one of the schools. (This is all second hand information from a reliable source) They said that the toal cost will be from $60,000 to $80,000. During the announcemtnt the entie congregation was advised to read the book of Exodus about the temple and each person was provided with a survey in which they were to make a check next to method they can provide their contribution (the three choices were 1.) direct contribution, 2.) no-interest loan, and 3.) monthly contribution).Don't get me wrong but for $60,000 to $80,000 they could probably get a new kingdom hall. Personally, I find it insulting that they would sprng this on the congregation given the fact that Arizona has one of the worst economies in the state. Personally, I'll be amazed if they come up with the money....
