Two questions for all "apostates"
by sloppyjoe2 indid any of you have a family member or close friend become an apostate first and you shunned them for it only to eventually see the light?
if so, how did your eyes become opened?

That's the thing. They understand our reaction, because they were there once too. It's the funny thing about leaving the religion. Once you're in it, you can't see the other side clearly. Once you leave, you can see both sides clearly. There's no resentment for us being jerks, there's just 'im so glad you're out too!!' -

Change to dress and grooming rules for JWs in USA soon?
by RayPublisher inmy guy with the lurk account on jwtalk (where all the kool-aid drinking jws go to talk about how wonderful 'the twoof' is) sent me some more interesting threads, here's one:.
spoiler: starting new the new service year september.
"there will be new directives from the branch through the circuit overseer on dress and grooming that will disqualify one to be a congregation publisher.

I was thinking when I saw this subject title that maybe they were finally EASING the rules. Maybe allowing women to wear dress pants? But Just when you think maybe they are getting slightly more liberal cuz it's about time!!!...they get worse. -

I had breakfast with 50+ JWs on Sunday
by zimunzucz inwe pulled into a hotel parking lot saturday around 6pm on the return leg of a wonderful family vacation to new england - an then fate stepped in---a man in a suit got out of a car with the rest of a picture perfect family.
i immediately noticed all the name tags--- and my blood pressure spiked 50pts- damn!!
i was booked in a 4 story hotel full of jws-- the only time they took off the name tags was in the swimming pool- they were so proud of themselves.. at 6:30 am the hot water went cold in the wife's shower- what do you expect on the 4th floor when a herd of jws is trying to get ready at the same time?

Thanks kaik. It's ironic to me that publications under ban in soviet control are now hunted down in a witch hunt by their own publisher.
Why? Oh, let's review...

A Whole New Watchtower Society (Governing Body 3.0 / Simplified Society)
by FusionTheism ina whole new watchtower society (governing body 3.0 / simplified society).
i'm not here to attack the governing body, watchtower society, or the jehovah's witnesses (jw) organization.
the bible says there is just "one hope" for christians (ephesians 4:4).

They won't read it, they won't care. It will be anonymous, so they won't be able to track it down and punish anyone. It would get quickly thrown in the trash by some serf in the service department before ever getting higher up.
Pb, research the trinity very carefully. I think witnesses develop a prejudice about it and can't see clearly after reading the very twisted trinity brochure etc, even after leaving.

If you were put in charge of the Governing Body tomorrow...
by FusionTheism inif you were somehow magically put in-charge of the governing body tomorrow, by jesus, with the rules being, you could not teach anything that would be considered outright apostasy and you could not teach anything that would be considered to cause doubt about god's existence... (so as not to arouse suspicion).
what "new light" or "clarified understandings" would you introduce first?.
and which later on?.

so many great suggestions here.
I will just reiterate, add conscience, take out legalism. It's what Jesus was all about, and somehow witnesses just don't get it.

priveledges an extra layer of protection
by aintenoughwiskey ini have noticed when an elder or ms gets in serious trouble, many times it's simply a demotion.
local example.
well liked ms son of a prominent elder/pioneer gets caught doing the dance with no pants with his fiancee.

Everything is for appearances. They can't disfellowship someone currently holding a position because it shocks everyone and embarrasses themselves. So if what they did is really bad, they are given two chances if they hold a title, before being kicked out. From what I have observed, they are always, always demoted first. And then usually nothing happens unless they do it again. Holding a position can definitely be called a cushion.

I agree with you guys, but I knew with my husband, going slowly was better. He wouldn't have listened to me at all if he knew I looked at apostate sites.
By being careful, he came around to my viewpoint on things.

The first hit for me was an answers.com article that strangely had many different opinions. It said 'is the new world translation the most accurate? In a word, no.' 'I do agree that the new world translation is accurate only in the opinion of Jehovah's witnesses.' Etc.
