I just had a thought that made me feel so much better about this fade...
by sosoconfused inthis is not monumental... i am sure all of you think it all the time.. but as a 3rd gen born-in ex-elder ex-pioneer ex-bethelite i spent so much time in this relion believing that for some reason that god, who loves all humans and created all things only wanted a few people to get knowledge of him - and this small group in america was his choice.. .
now as i said i am sure 99% of you probably came to that realization before and it is common sense, but the very fact that as a grown man i never really thought about this for more than 15 seconds.
the whole idea is just ridiculous and freaking stupid.

Sosoconfused - You've spent years and years educating yourself to be a good JW, and all the meetings, assemblies, CO visits, have just hammered it into your mind like a board that has hundreds of nails pounded into it. It will take time to pull all of those "nails" out.
Educating yourself by means of reading books like Steve Hassan's and Crisis of Conscience and websites like JWfacts will go a long way toward combatting the guilt you're feeling and freeing your mind at the same time.
Don't lose heart. You'll get there!

An elder called me.
by Julia Orwell inan elder who handled the minor matter with my husband a few weeks ago called to see how we were doing.
this guy genuinely is a gentle, kind, man whom the congregation loves.
he's the one everyone approaches because he never judges or condescends.

The one thing you have to keep telling yourself is they have no power and they have no authority!
That's one of the most difficult concepts to accept, but once you do, it's much easier to leave.
Julia, I'm so sorry you were traumatized by those men in ties, but I'm glad there were a couple of them that could comfort you.

Remember the 1961 green Bible?
by outbutnotdown in.
i know there are numerous examples of crazy, whacked out stuff that the wtbts taught that most of here now realize were just that...... crazy and whacked......... but do you know how insane some of the stuff in that original 1961 bible was?.

OMG, the dinosaur! We joined the cult when I was 12, and I always thought that dino was just whacked out. It was like they were implying dinosaurs lived at the same time as those costumed guys in Europe.
And that green! I heard some story about the WTS getting a good deal on the green vinyl. Must have been a boatload that nobody else wanted.
You'd need large pockets to accommodate those "pocket" bibles.

by dissonance_resolved ini'm a born in, baptized as a young teenager, whole family is jw.

They read off the names of those auxilliary pioneering; 75% of them don't work &
by Theocratic Sedition inhalf of that 75% get disability and ssi checks.
it was kinda funny sitting there listening to them go down the line, name by name, of the ones auxilliary pioneering since the numbers are dropped to 30 hours for march & april.
as they were doing the names i was saying to myself, "she don't work", "she supposedly can't work", "he hasn't worked in years", "she gets a check", "she's probably gonna lie about the amount of hours she did" etc.. gotta love it.. i don't know if this happens in your congregation or not, but have you ever heard someone remark about someone else behind their back, "she can show up at every gathering, but she can't show up for field service!

It's funny, but I never saw that in any cong I was associated with. The pios and aux pios were usually stay-at-home moms and retired people. Go figure.

I laughed when I read about your hubby leaving on "the Mayflower." My ex did the same thing. May 1976.

The brothers studied it , was it three times?- and they still never figured out what the point of it was-
That book is the one that made me notice inconsistencies and bold statements made without scriptural backup. Took me until the third time through, but it got the ball rolling.
There was a time when we studied "The Nations Shall Know That I am Jehovah - How?" for the second time, but there was a schedule in the KM of what pages to study. We skipped around because some of the understanding had changed or something. I was just a teenager, but I thought it was strange.
Remember when the bookstudy didn't have a schedule in the KM? Some bookstudy groups would finish the book sooner than others or else be so far behind they wouldn't be able to finish before the next book was scheduled.
