JWs are in the strange position where they are aware of many changes on a teaching through the years, and now there is a new teaching. Common sense would tell them that there is a good chance the current teaching will change again one day to something else. However most do not think that way. Whatever the current teaching is IS THE UNQUESTIONABLE TRUTH! Until it changes again, then that is THE TRUTH, and the PREVIOUS TRUTH is just a understanding that needed a little clarification LOL

Why would they mention the 'old light'?
by Captain Blithering ini don't get why they opened the article 'when will these things be' by using old old light not believed since the late 60's?
.
seems a bit idiotic to draw attention to past mistakes that are long forgotten in the minds of the r&f, as opposed to stuff that is fairly recent that has warranted 're-examination'.

Which is more weird ? Nov 15, 2013 page 20
by jwstudy inwhich is more weird ?.
english standard edition or simplified edition?.
instructions we may receive, whether.

My vote goes to the simplified edition. That is the type of material that makes me think that the chance of a Jonestown type scenario, while remote, is possible. I says to OBEY a group humans who dont have a good track record, seeing as how they have been wrong every time in the past, OBEY even if you dont agree. That SCREAMS cult, while the standard edition just says cult in a inside voice. If world events spiral downhill into a WW3 at any point in the realitivly near future, it is VERY frightening what they may order the lobotomized JW automatons to do.

They basically believe that they operated almost exactly as JWs do today. They believe that JWs are a perfect "restoration" of early christianity. Interesting, seeing as EVEN WITH the word Jehovah being falsely injected into the NT, he is mentioned a fraction of the times that Jesus is. Even in the NWT Jesus is the clear emphasis and the focus is on him. Even reading the NT from the NWT, the difference in the message from the average WT and the Bible is very clear. JWs cherry pick a few verses out of context from the NT and base their beliefs on that and the OT.
How much focus is on Jesus in WT land vs the Bible?
Even when reading the Bible alone, I feel JWs are uncomfortable with all the emphasis on Jesus, and the absense of the mention of what they are familiar with, the word Jehovah, and no mention of organization, or governing body, even though they imagine it to be there.

Bethelites told to protest by the GB??
by williamhconley inwhen i served in bethel during the late 90's i was told by several bethel elders that since the city did not approve the 30 story residential building (now 90 sands) to be built in columbia heights, bethelites were sent to stand in front of city hall as a protest.
this was approved by the gb.. i wasn't there at that time but my question is.... is there anybody here that may have been at bethel or nyc at that time that can shed more light on this?
the wt criticizes organizations and individuals that protest to protect their rights.

Well they are allowed to associate with the UN, supposedly for a library card. and OSCE, while the R+F arent even allowed to use the YMCA to use the pool.
Any more information about this would be great, especially considering the new Awake rag entitled "Is Protest the Answer?". This would be just one more on the long list of hypocrisy and double standards of the WT.
I believe the WT will do anything, even if forbidden to the R+F as long as it furthers their intrests.

"You knew what the consequences were when YOU decided to leave The Truth. This is YOUR decision and the outcome is YOUR responsibility."
by nicolaou inhow many of us have had to deal with a version of that retort?!
it's hurtful and i suspect - for some - that's partly because of the nagging feeling that our families may have a point.. but do they?.
i was 15 when i got baptised, is it reasonable that as the 50 year old man i'll be on my next birthday i continue to be held to a decision i made as a schoolboy?.

I agree, thats like saying that at work you are free to no call no show, come in late every day etc. You are free to walk through the streets naked, you are free to stop paying your taxes lol.. You may be able to do all of these things, but what will the consequences be? Just go they say, no one is holding a gun to your head! As if losing the majority of people you know is nothing to sneeze at.

Differences if the GB referred to themselves in the 1st person
by BU2B ini was just thinking; what if the governing body, the self proclaimed fds referred to themselves in the 1st person and not the 3rd person, what the results would be.
"since jehovah god and jesus christ completely trust the faithful and discreet slave, should we not do the same?
" 2/15/09 wt.

I was just thinking; what if the Governing Body, the self proclaimed FDS referred to themselves in the 1st person and not the 3rd person, what the results would be. Here is an example.
"Since Jehovah God and Jesus Christ completely trust the Faithful and Discreet Slave, should we not do the same?" 2/15/09 WT
Edited
"Since Jehovah God and Jesus Christ completely trust US, should YOU not do the same?"
or
"We need to obey the Faithful and Discreet Slave to have Jehovah's Approval" 7/15/11 WT
Edited
"YOU need to obey US to have Jehovah''s Approval"
There is a big difference in the Impact this would have on JWs I think. This would be the honest way to write the various statements since JWs know all literature comes from the FDS as "Gods only Channel"

~Humble and Childlike~
by freeflyingfaerie inyou remember the 'encouragement' to be teachable, humble, like little children.... well, children ask questions, and lots of 'em.... so, what happens when we keep on wondering and have questions that demand answers?.
according to jw's, a person has to stop being teachable like little children.
a person is told not to do any real research (which requires humility, a sense of wonder, and openness to new ideas and concepts)....for fear that research done outside of the organizations approved sources- their own- a person may discover contradictions and lies.

They want you to have the gullibility of a child, without the curiosity and questioning. They also want you to obey like a fearful child.

What is the stand/view of the JWs regarding the Illuminati and conspiracy theory?
by UBM101 ini mean.... are the dubs pretty much supporters of the conspiracy theory (watching videos, researching etc) or do they avoid such materials/topics?
-
BU2B
Pretty much the same as the general public. If you mention anything not championed by the Mainstream media, their eyes will glaze over, their faces will go blank and they tune out. After all if it was true, the faithful slave would have told us right?
