he found it "highly unusual" that the family requested their religion be made public.
I find it highly unusual that he would find this highly unusual. Aren't JW's supposed to proclaim their religion at every opportunity? Aren't they asked to wear their lapel cards even when travelling to and from the assemblies?
I also find the comparisons to Catholicism rather disingenuous. If the person were Catholic, there would be no religious-medical issues. On the other hand, if the parents were Christian Science, then there would be just as much publicity as there is for JW parents.
They made their crackpot publicity bed and now they are surprised when someone wants them to lay in it.

Try a few 'finger ' exercises of your own!!!
by Gill indo you remember the talks about meeting attendance?.
the meetings were likened to the five fingers of the hand.
with these five fingers, a person was able to grip their spirituality, represented by the brother giving the talk holding his bible firmly and it would be a good sign of their spiritual strength therefore that they attended all five meetings.. however, if one meeting was missed, the grip on the bible/spirituality would be weaker.

I remember the illustration well.
But, many years ago, the school and service meeting were two full hours. Now, they are 1:45. I guess that finger got cut off at the knuckle.
And, what did it mean when the district assemblies were shortened (both in hours per day and number of days) and one of the circuit assemblies was replaced with a one day assembly day?
Following the analogy even further, shouldn't there be 8 meetings per week? Just imagine trying to get the bible away from an octapus.

I keep getting an error message when I try to post the text, so I will try posting a link to a chapter in my book. The chapter is called, "A Non-Prophet Organization". Section 1 lists some failed prophecies: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/94734/1.ashx

Why animals die?
by EzroJP ini know why human beings die, but why animals die?.
did they commit anything wrong according to the laws of god, so they have to die?.

Dogs die because back in the Dogpound of Eden, Rover was tempted to eat a forbidden kibble by his bitch. Therefore he was only able to pass on imperfection to his pups. Makes perfect sense to me.

Further to Sir82's comments, here is what I dug up:
This is what many outstanding scholars think today: There are three section in the Book of Isaiah:
1- Chapters 1-39 contain, with numerous additions, oracles of Isaiah of Jerusalem, in the eight century, called First (1) or Proto-Isaiah.
2- Chapters 40-55 record the words of a sixth century prophet living in exile in Babylon, called Deutero-Isaiah or Second (II) Isaiah.
3- Chapters 56-66 from the post-Exilic period are a continuation of the work of Deutero-Isaiah, probably by his disciples, and perhaps containing some of the Babylonian prophet's sayings. This section is called Trito-Isaiah or Third (III) Isaiah .If this is indeed the case, then the Cyrus prediction in chapter 45 would have been living around the time the events happened, making the prophecy appear pretty average. Much like all the rest of the Bible prophesies (except the ones that were downright wrong).
I'd like to hear Nark or Leo weigh in on this.

There are many areas where there is no cap on excessive growth - education, art, science, knowledge. Likewise, there are many areas where there is no cap on misery - crime, addiction, relationship failure.
In some areas, there is a partial cap. As you mentioned, wealth can be created, but there is also an absolute limit of some sort. In general, societies that strive for economic growth with acheive a higher sum total, and it doesn't have to be at the expense of someone else.
There are even areas where success automatically generates more success - such as medical breakthroughs.
In fact, there are limited areas where success of one necessarily means failure of another - with most of them being in the arena of games.
The bottom line is that we do not manage society as a whole. No one does. We manage ourselves. And positive thinking is the first step toward improving our individual lot.

URGENT!! NEWS FOR ALL LIVING IN ENGLAND!!
by ozziepost injust so's you don't miss out - we wouldn't want you to miss it!.
australia on brink of ashes sweep.
6:19 pm january 4. england was left facing the prospect of a 5-0 ashes whitewash after limping to 5 for 114 at stumps, leading australia by just 12 runs, on the third day of the final ashes test at the sydney cricket ground.. kevin pietersen (29 not out) and nightwatchman monty panesar (0) were left with a near-impossible task to stave off defeat after australia ripped through the england batting after tea.. the nadir came in the penultimate over of the day when captain andrew flintoff was stumped for 7 after being judged out of his ground by the slenderest of margins as he played forward to shane warne.. but alastair cook (4); andrew strauss (24); ian bell (28), and paul collingwood (17) had all failed to fire as australia closed in on what will be the first five-test ashes series whitewash since 1920/21.. the australians were buoyed by a bravura batting performance from warne, who earlier top-scored with 71 as australia piled up 393 all out just before tea to take a first-innings lead of 102 runs.. brett lee (2-34) and stuart clark (2-29) then combined to keep australia in the driver's seat.. lee started the rout in just the third over of the innings when he had cook caught behind.. clark trapped strauss, before lee and wicket-keeper adam gilchrist combined again to remove bell.. collingwood and pietersen added 34 runs for the fourth wicket before collingwood edged a catch to a diving matthew hayden in the gully to make it 4 for 98.australian innings .
