A lot of mine had to do with grooming...after controlling my very curly ethnic hair all my JW life, I looked like I could be in a Twisted Sister video, wear very short skirts, very low tops and best of all go to a nude beach and get NAKED!!!

When I was in school, the smoke would billow out of the restrooms, no one I knew ever got in trouble. Did you guys know about this? We live in Washington state, maybe it's a local thing.

I played tennis last night and.................
by desib77 ini suck at it.
i don't even know how to keep score.
anyone else play?
-
Sabine
I love tennis, maybe if my parents would have got me lessions I could have been really good at it. My tip, besides getting lessions before bad habits are established, is you have to practice alot. We live in Seattle, and with the rainy weather we play alot for a few months then wait months for a sunny day. You have to be consistent to really improve. Great exercise though...and very humbling.

The more I search for my own spiritual balance, the more I see that what was totaly damaging about the JW religion is how they totally remove your connection to the divine source. Not only is Jesus not your personal mediator (only for the anointed), you are not to trust your own mind and heart (very treacherous, who can trust it). You need to rely on their interpretation of what is pleasing to God.
I no longer consider myself a Christian, but I think there are "truths" in many different sources. "The kindom is within you" is for me the greatest truth Jesus spoke.

Death of a child
by wtphobic inwhat kind of person tells his non jw granddaughter that the death of her infant son is a "sign of the times"?
i don't know his staus in the org, but i know that "the pressure" is now on to convince her of the error of her ways- even been suggested that had she been a jw- this might not happen....unbelieveable- please- help me understand the twisted jw stand on death and dying and grieving

Hi wtphobic,
I too am so sorry to hear of this gross behavior, unfortunately, it isn't uncommon from my personal experiences. My inactive JW sister-in-law was told after the death of her mom that she should come back to the JWs so she could see her mother again in the resurrection.
When my 21 year old daughter died (she was a regular pioneer of four years), we got no comfort, and a week later they were telling me to go back out in service...get back to the important things. I was also very angry after her death, and they all said they couldn't understand the anger. I read several books on grieving and anger is a classic response. They even have a booklet on how to speak to grieving ones, it specifically stated people are in shock, angry, etc. after the death of a loved one, and to be loving towards them. I guess many just don't even read their own liturature.
I found a good counselor to talk to that specialized in this area and it was extremely helpful, I would highly recommend it for your friend. Take care,
Sabine

Confrontation has its place
by Maverick ini know most of you wouldn't read this, after-all it might improve your life and you don't want that do you?.
no sane person enjoys confrontation.
we like to be liked and thought well of.
-
Sabine
But being willing and able to confront someone when the need arises can be a valuable tool in your ongoing quest for inner peace and happiness
I totally agree, I've confronted three people in particular on behavior I just couldn't let go by in the last year. One key point I try to convey is that I cannot and do not claim to read their hearts and minds, or know their motives behind the behavior. All I can do is express how their behavior made me feel. I told them that I valued them as a person, and their behavior was so inconsistant with the great person I know them to be, I felt I had to point it out. I think the more nonjudgemental you can be the better, lots of our behavior is coming from subconsious stuff we are not aware of. Few are evil premediators, and these I stay far away from.

A JW just telephoned me... heh heh heh...
by Quotes init must be the end-of-the-mont-scramble to get time in.
i just got off the phone with a gentleman who, talking approx 1000 words per minute, so that i could almost not understand what he said, identified himself as "navin", and wanted to "share a scripture with me".
he clearly did not know who i am or my history, or my website hobby.

No sex or marriage for Great Crowd
by cherjcd inhello folks,.
the watchtower has promised a special group of people that they will have sex, marriage and children in the new earth.
no resurrected person will have these privileges because you have to live through armageddon to get the privilege to procreate.
-
Sabine
That the Watchtower is untrustworthy, is definately something I can wholeheartedly agree with you on. Their teachings about the future of marriage and sex, based on their interpretation of scirpture is yet another area they have used to manipulate and control the lives of millions. It exposes their arrogance and presumption to know what the great divine source has in store for mankind and their eternal future.
Unfortunately, it is my opinion that for you to say those with an inaccurate knowledge and acceptance of Christ are doomed eternally is not much different than the attitude displayed by the Watchtower, as far as I'm concerned. I appreciated this comment posted earlier by flyinghighnow:
I don't think it is ours to know any absolute truth in this life. For anyone to say they know the absolute truth, whether they be Catholics, Baptists, JWs, Muslims or Eastern Religions, is for them to try to influence and manipulate your behavior.

We believe if you have the right Jesus Christ, you are right for all eternity. But if you have the wrong Jesus Christ then you are wrong for all eternity.
Cheryl,I am quoting this from your introduction page on your site....sorry, but I can't agree with a statement condemning people for all eternity.... been there, done that and I know personally what damage can be done to someone when they feel far removed from God (read my bio).
