Did *they* change their names? Or did the people who wrote the Bible do it for them?

Season 1 of The Borgias.
Borgia is elected to the papacy (Pope Alexander). Part of the ceremony features the introduction of a commode-type seat, where the candidate sits his bare bottom and an official reaches underneath from behind to check the dangly bits. Upon confirmation that the dangly bits are present (not a woman pretending to be a dude) and that they are intact, the ceremony continues.
Check it out on Showtime.

I have a Kobo that you can get at Chapters or Indigo here in Canada. There is quite a large selection of free e-books (mostly classics) available on the Chapters/Indigo website. To purchase e-books, you can either use your credit card on the website, or if a nice person gives you a Chapters/Indigo gift card, you can apply your purchase against the value of the gift card.
It has a slot for a microchip so you can store your PDFs on it for your e-reading pleasure. I use that feature for my reams of downloaded PDF knitting patterns - it's quite handy in that regard.
The battery charge lasts quite a while, and only takes a couple of hours to restore to 100% power. I also like that I can use the Kobo app on my iPhone if I don't want to cart the e-reader around. The app syncs the devices for you so that you can always pick up where you left off.

Mr Scully and I left together, although I pretty much got the ball rolling with research and questions. Our eldest was 8 years old, and the younger two were still in diapers. We sat down with the eldest and explained that it was important to own up to mistakes, no matter how old you are, and that we had made a mistake believing the JWs.
At first he was upset and asked if he could still go to the Meetings™ with Brother™ So-and-so. We explained that when he was older he could decide to be a JW if he still really wanted, but that now we were going to be a normal family like all the kids in school, and have birthday parties and Christmas and Easter and play sports and do fun things instead of going to Meetings™ all the time. He's never looked back.

Have you ever heard a talk on child molestation following a judicial reproof?
by NVR2L8 inwhen someone is reprimanded by a judicial commitee there is usually a talk given to the congregation about issues that leads to serious sins.
sometimes that talk takes you by surprise because the reproof was private and no announcement was made to the congregation.
other times you figure out why an individual was the object of a judicial commitee...i heard talks on the usage of drugs, cigarettes, pornography, bad forms of intertainment, fornication, adultery, fraud, gambling, disapproved medical treatments...but never on child abusers and mostly how to protect your children against this terrible crime.. do you think the reason there is never mention of child abuse is that if many knew there is a child molester in their midst they would pressure the elders to go to the autorities?
-
Scully
No. The Elders™ never bothered to tell my parents that they had assigned a molester to the Book Study™ in our house. The Elders™ figured they'd protect their own daughters and throw me under the bus instead.

When you see some beautiful creations, then they say that Jehovah is wonderful...

He also created mosquitoes (and other vectors) that carry malaria and West Nile Virus, in fact he created the viruses and bacteria too, even the ones that kill people.
He must have also created HIV, gonorrhea, syphillis, trichomonas, chlamydia, mad cow disease and any other communicable illness.
Isn't he wonderful?

Reasoning on "It doesn't matter if the FDS are wrong"
by konceptual99 ini had a bit of chat with my wife last night after she was worried that i was less than enthusiastic about the ministry this morning.
i expressed that i was slightly confused about the generations and how it's kept changing despite 1914 etc.
being a core doctrine.

Well, apparently it *does* matter when the Catholic Church is wrong, and apparently it *does* matter when Catholic priests molest children. If you are going to hold other people to a certain standard, even the Bible expects you to hold yourself to the same standard. If it were any other church besides JWs, they would be all over it like a dirty shirt.
" For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." ~ Matthew 7:2
" For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." ~ Luke 6:38
"And He was saying to them, 'Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides.'" ~ Mark 4:24
Once I started seeing failings within the Organization™, I no longer felt that JWs had any right to judge other peoples' belief systems. The JWs were just as flawed.

Taking a break from AJWRB due to lack of interest
by Shawn10538 inwell, i've given it a year of my life and i hoped it would have taken off a bit stronger.
i thought it was a good cause and still do.
but i can't pay my bills and i can no longer justify spending time on the cause of saving lives with blood transfusions.
-
Scully
Zen, there's nothing wrong with looking after your own needs at all. I wish you well.
AJWRB has been an entity for over a decade, and it will continue to serve a need, to every JW who has need to question the WTS's doctrine against blood transfusions and for every person whose life may be touched by the JWs and their position against blood transfusions.
It will continue to serve that important purpose even as an archive.
