"Softening" is gratuitous . A better term would be "cunning".

Knowledge Book, Separation and Abuse
by IslandWoman inthe 1995 edition of the "knowledge that leads to everlasting life" book states on page 122 paragraph 11: those living together as husband and wife should make sure that their marriage has been properly registered with the civil authorities.
(mar 12:17) they also need to view wedlock as a serious responsibility.
true, separation might become necessary in cases of willful nonsupport, extreme abuse, or the absolute endangerment of spirituality.. .

Dakota Red, thanks for taking a clear stand against the phrase "spiritual endangerment " as cause for seperation or divorce. Yes, such a general phrase offers generous support to a "believer" poised for seperation or divorce and ironicaly undermines their spirituality.

Did anyone really ever study?

prepare for each meeting, prepare for service, (gotta know the articles) etc.

In the late sixties I began to collate all the scripture indexes and, using several copies of the NWT, I began to create a Bible of scriptures that the WTBTS did not comment on. As the project developed I was shocked to see what was left out. I felt like I had looked "behind the curtain" and found out something that no one could explain. I felt sad for everyone.

Interpretations of significant metaphors does not lead to peace.

The discussion demonstrates how absurd it is to try to find truth through ideas. There is no peace except through direct knowing. Demonstrations like this need to be seen for what they are, exercises in futility.

Our Lives Are Worthless
by Undecided ini've been in a strange mood lately.
i keep thinking what difference does anything matter.
in a few years we will all be dead anyway and anything we did won't amount to anything.

All phenomena are impermanent. That is the law of space and time. To find what is permanent you must observe the source of all phenomena which means you must observe your own mind. That which is permanent rests within you but it is obscured by the mind's erroneous understanding of the nature of phenomena. This is not about "Belief" which is a product of thinking. This is about direct "knowing".( which is the only way to peace).

WT Hypocrisy vs. Protecting Children/ SL
by Siddhashunyata inthere is a growing concern that silentlambs is dealing with two mutually exclusive issues.
the hypocrisy of the wtbts is one issue and protecting children is the other.
additionaly there is criticism of bill bowen's, at times, "down home" approach to dealing with the wtbts.

There is a growing concern that Silentlambs is dealing with two mutually exclusive issues. The hypocrisy of the WTBTS is one issue and protecting children is the other. Additionaly there is criticism of Bill Bowen's, at times, "down home" approach to dealing with the WTBTS. ( ie his letter indicting the GB and requesting a judicial hearing). Given the history of Silentlambs and its intimate relationship to Jehovah's Witnesses and considering Bill's personal sufferings and accomplishments I think it would be fair to say that these issues are not mutually exclusive . Given the dedication of Mr. Bowen I think it would be fair to say that he deserves to be given some "room " to be as human as the posters on this board. What I can"t understand is why, on the heels of the N.Y. march, others are suddenly warning the "lambs" under the guise of "Freedom of Expression" or of some non -realized threat of "putting all their eggs in one basket", why at this point are these ideas being raised. They seem to me to be premature at best and imply a self serving intellectualizing of a living movment that is finally making a difference. It seems a little like "showing off ".

Silentlambs, The Letter, The World, and Justice.
by BeautifulGarbage infirst off, let me express that bill bowen would not know me from any stranger on the street.
i have never spoken with him, or have i ever corresponded with him.
the only information that i have of him is what i have read of him on this forum and on silentlambs.org.

There does seem to be two things Bill Bowen is confronting. (1) protection of children (2) the general hypocrisy of the WTBTS. It might be useful to list the pros and cons of co-mingling these two issues . One expressed "con" seems to be that public support is endangered by co-mingling. Another is that important resources are misdirected away from the victim's cause. Are there any "pro's" , that is positive effects from co-mingling the above issues under the auspices of Silentlambs?

IF YOU COULD HAVE JW'S OUTLAWED, WOULD YOU?
by minimus insince so many are vehemently opposed to jehovah's witnesses, if it was in your power, would you simply outlaw the witnesses?

Full disclosure requirements of : their mehods, techniques and expectations. This would serve to curtail their advancement under the protection of the First Amendment. No need to outlaw them. Their success stems from subterfuge and deceit!
