All active JW's should read this book. If its the truth it will stand up to scrutiny, right?
Oh I forgot, one of the characteristics of a cult is information control so I guess they can't read it.
Great book.

i finally ordered this book from the book store as i have heard some good things about it .
also want to know more about how cults i.e.
jehovah's witnesses and other cults think so as to see how to communicate with more insight to my witness daughters 20 and 19 .

my wife's sister is in town.
they come to town maybe once every 5 years or so, as they live a considerable distance away.
today i discovered that they are in town, out to dinner last nite, and didn't even tell my wife [or i] or invite her along.
I think your wife should ask them why they didn't let her know they were in town.
I think your wife should ask them "is it because Jeff is DF? "
Is your wife bothered by this?

having read some of the previous posts, i'm pretty sure what the majority answer will be.
my situation is similar.
we met a little over a year ago, she got df over her relationship with me, something that put her in a pretty long depression that she gradually grew out of (with some notable setbacks along the way).
The way to help her exit is to find out her general attitude to the JWs..... I mean, does she think its the one true religion? It sounds like she is still really indoctrinated because she tightens up at the mention of information which challenges the JWs.
If you find out her views by maybe asking her to tell you about the faith, you can then know much more about challenging it.
Be totally honest with her that you have read about the religion online. Then, tell her that you'd like to know, from her, her opinion on the religion. You want to know both sides of the story.
The JWs printed something (you'll find the exact reference on www.freeminds.org I think) which said that any religion should stand up to ANY scrutiny if it is truth. Use this and say that if it is the truth it will stand up to any scrutiny.
Then pick a couple of BIG things which are undeniable about the faith. There is lots of info out there.
Good luck

good morning all.. i am writing this after learning of my father's death yesterday.
i am a bit out of sorts to say the least.
i was fortunate to have been able to talk and laugh with him only last weekend while he was (we thought) recovering from a coma in a long term care facility.
So sorry for your loss.
This forum is good because its so busy and its full of individuals who have lost fathers, mothers, children etc. So keep talking to us.
I personally do believe in life after death because all my life I've seen spirit beings. I strongly feel that they are alright and are "at home" in the spirit. That isn't to say that I'm right, its just my opinion, of course.
I agree with you that facing death and not seeking solace in "untruths" is the best path and you will heal by facing it.
Hugs

i am reading the power of self-esteem by nathaniel brandon, ph.d.. i have never had much self-esteem.
i was not raised a jw, so i can't blame it on them.
here is a list of obstacles to the growth of self-esteem.
Addicts are not less fearful than other human beings, they are more fearful. Their pain is not milder, it is more severe, We cannot drink or drug our way into self-esteem anymore than we can buy happiness with toxic relationships. We do not attain self-esteem by practices that evoke self-hatred.
Very true. I also would like to read that book.
I wonder how many ExJWs have really low self esteem because we were always told we were not really good enough?

From what I heard, the society did not apologise for 1975.
it's utterly amazing that the society has bamboozled publishers into thinking that all of its cutbacks.
are somehow not related to a lack of donations.. perhaps this will be tested in the next few years as gasoline, food, and other essentials go way.
up in price while wages stay stagnant.
Yeah Katie,
Add to that MOT's and Road Tax.....
When I went to Canada they didn't have MOT's.
For everyone reading in US or Canada or Australia, do you have to have your car tested every year and pay for even minor repairs in order to get a certificate to prove its roadworthy?
I also pay £110 per annum road tax, it would be more but I have a tiny car.
Then we also have television licenses. They make us pay a license to watch "free" TV. Most people now subscribe to SKY but to OWN A TV you have to pay a fee. If they find you with a TV and no license, you get fined £1000.
One thing I can't complain about is NHS. They've been excellent with me.

a couple of nights ago my roomie gave me a dvd to play.
she said it was from her sisters.
well i jump up and put in the dvd thinking it was from her physical sisters (they are all hotties).
I just remembered the table at Jehovah's Angels (his escort agency)
and Jehovah's Sheep (the blow-up variety selling really well on the remote islands)
Which bloody table do we not leave?

Jehovah's table? Is that in Jehovah's Arms (the pub just outside Jerusalem)? (Rumour has it thats where he met the great harlot in the first place! )
Or it might be the one they set up for picnics in Jehovah's Fold?
But it could be the table in the board room of Jehovah's People (recruitment agency) or Jehovah's Will and Jehovah's Judgement (branches of his law firm)?
or is it the table under which Jehovah's Holy Living Creatures reside (they catch the scraps)?
I'm pretty sure there is also a design table at Jehovah's Direction - the internet based route-finder company (which takes you only on the narrow roads)
There are lots of tables in Jehovah's heavenly abode.....
They need to be more specific!
