Not being allowed to wear 'pants' in a blizzard --- WE-IRD!
Yes, very weirs, as all European female JWs wear them. So one should try to make a difference between what is one's personal experience and what is worldwide group behavious.
there are times when we manage to step outside of our own identities, perspectives and world view, and look at ourselves, our situations or certain lived experiences almost as an outsider.
sociologists call it seeing the strange in the familiar.
an anthropologist by the name of miner wrote a fascinating piece involving this very concept (see http://www.ohio.edu/people/thompsoc/body.html).

What Bible have you been reading, poor BugBear? - finding in it all those things as the main contents, I mean?
i have been looking for a quote that i believe was in a km, but i just have not found it yet.
it was about examining beliefs.
it was not the quote that said " study is hard work, bethel will do it for you.
But IF JWs should be warned against studying the Bible - perhaps a quote to that effect would be required in stead of just claims to that effect?
i have been pondering this question for awhile.
say a person during a shepherding visit with the elders were to simply state that they had lost their faith in god because of the subject of suffering-- would the elders still have grounds to disfellowship them even if the person did not actually commit a sinful offense?
instead of diving into all the errors, false prophecies, and lies advanced by the organization can somebody simply say, "i have lost faith in jehovah" and walk away without being publically denounced?
Just remember the bias by those having responded. Their responses might not be 100 % agreed upon by JWs or elders you would come across. Those having responded of course have THEIR history to tell and THEIR reasons for responding as they do. The whole question is a bit "weird", why would one wish to continue being a member - to call it that - of an organization whose aims, foundations, whole legitimacy one not only questions but denies? Depending of how militant one puts forward one's views, I guess the result would more be "has disassociated himself".
well the book they use to conduct bible studies is already showing its age, and just like the changes they made to the live forever book they are doing it to the bible teach book as well.

My point was that shit IS happening. Millions of people are living under horrible circumstances. Millions of people in the rich Western world suffer terribly too. Most of the world does not live a Californian life. But of course, what does a LA citizen care.

"The absence of anything really new is so obvious and it speaks volumes as to the qualifications of the current Governing Body to make any bold moves or changes "
On the other hand - the Bible message, how could one produce something "new" out of it every year? You would wonder more if a brochure was issued, stating the Moon in reality is a green cheese. There are limitations as to what novelties could be produced based on the Bible.

"It is not typical for a person to see tanks or bombers in most cities in the world. It is not typical for a person to be held at gun- or knife-point."
I know. But tell that to a citizen of the third-world nation, where most of the world'speople live - and where these things DO happen on a very, very frequent basis.
Tell it out loudly from the roof tops of Damascus, of Bagdad, of Teheran, of all Afghan cities, of South European cities where 50 % of the youth are unemployed, of almost each and every one of Africa's cities, and listen closely to the reply you get.
just saw a post by splash on the commision transcript thread: (pasted below).
we had a talk at our hall recently, basically saying that there have been lots of letters written to the uk branch, questioning and complaining about a new change introduced for the baptisms at the sad and ca.. the talk did not try to reason, it did not try to explain.. the talk was "do as you are told, don't question what you are told".. we were told to do as the song instructs us "listen, obey and be blessed".. we were told that this change was from jehovah so keep up with his chariot.. i think this talk was given in quite a few locations around the country.. what was that all about please?.

For the last 30 years here, baptism has been done separately and NOT as a part of the program. Is this supposedly something "new"?

But in stead of playing with workds, one should perhaps honour his memory, pay respect to this young man who paid the highest price for his conviction and his refusal to obey the command of Thou shalt not kill?

I sincerely feel that nobody should dare to make fun of Engleitner, it is not a stupid old guy not managing to see thru things, it is the oldest Holocaust survivor who has just died, who suffered immensely, was beaten and tortured but who survived the Nazi hell - and he is/was 100 times more a man than any of you stupid guys making fun of him. Whatever you feel about his faith, he as a person is/was more worth than all of you who make fun of him, combined.
