My Life In the Watchtower

Just kidding. I know it took a lot out of you to write it, and while your story has many elements that others share, it is still unique. I thank you for taking the time to put your thoughts down and share them with us.

I too am most happy that my kids will have a more normal childhood than I did. Even though I didn't leave until they were 11 and 12, at least they didn't have to go through their teenage years in that misery! As we did. I am glad you and your family are doing better, and I hope you find this board a source of encouragement also, as I have.

You sound like you have learned a lot in a short time, and I am always especially happy to hear of younger ones escaping before they have wasted their entire youths in the borg.

I am SO sorry about your Dad, I cannot even imagine how you have dealt with that. The fact that your Mom has escaped too, and is no longer in emotional or mental bondage to the cults teachings, is wondeful news! I hope she will always appreciate what a favor you did her.

Happy to be here...

i grew up in a jw home.

baptized at 16. i wasn't molested by anybody in the congregation, but i was approached by two different elders in two different congregations, wanting more than just to be my elder...ifyaknowwhatimean.... i led a double life for a few years and finally slept with a worldly boyfriend at 18. i was put on public reproof.

i was told this was to help me understand what was at risk in my life and to turn me around.

One year tomorrow

i have been disfellowshipped for one year tomorrow.

i have been alone through out this time and completely lost.

recently i decided to look up jw sites on the internet and found a moving story of a lady who had been through a similar experience to mine.

Thank you so much sweetie for sharing your story! I am so glad you had the brains and the guts to get out at a young age. When I read how you felt about "abandoning" your siblings, my heart went out to you. Of course you have not abandoned them...you have no control over their lives right now, just as YOU had no control over your own at a younger age. But Safe is right: You HAVE set an example for them...and since you can now stay in touch by phone, you never know if you will be able to help them get out when they are old enough.

I am SO sorry about your miscarriage! What a terrible loss for you to suffer, and to have to go through under those circumstances. You sound like a really strong person, and that you have kept your positive attitude intact...so I know you will do well in whatever direction your life takes now. Thanks again for sharing,

Stupid people

well in an attempt to question and learn more about the bible as was suggested to me by various people, i attended church with a friend.

afterwards i spoke with the preacher, and asked him about some of the things i had learned from the jw.

he quickly disregarded what i told him and pointed out a few scriptures, i showed him more that backed up what i had been taught.

Welcome to this board! You have been given some great ideas already.

I will add this: When I left the borg, I missed "the idea" of a loving, caring, forgiving, all-knowing God...not the "reality" of having this God in my day to day life and struggling to please him all the time.

After some personal growth, and struggling with my own issues, I realised that I was really seeking MY OWN approval...I did not love and accept myself completely for who I was. Once I did that, I did not feel the need for a God, or anyone else, to give me validation. I now know who I am and what I have to offer to this world, and I am having a great time doing it!!!

I hope you hang around here for awhile, make some good friends, and share your personal growth with us, because we all are still learning.

Thanks for sharing a little more of your story.

I am glad to hear that you are making progress in your "leaving process". While I am terribly sorry to hear that your sister was also a victim of molestation, it seems to me more unusual to find someone who WASN'T! Isn't that sad? What does that say about the men who are attracted to this organization?

You know you have a support group here, Zev, and I know that Gwen is a good friend to you also. Don't be afraid to call on us for support anytime. Good luck in your exit.

P.S. Quit calling yourself Gramps!!! I will be 40 in a couple years, and I do NOT feel that old.
