  i know this is not witness related but i just caught my husband smoking pot.

  i am so upset !!!

  he is an alcoholic and has a terrible temper.

  Maybe you should go back and re-read her original post, and some of the responses. Jurs stated that her husband is an alcoholic. That is in NO WAY a comparison to someone who "enjoys a pint or two". Some of us have survived alcoholic relationships and offered our advice based on our experiences with the disease.

  Of course it is devastating to a family to break up. It is also devastating to a family to remain in an alcoholic relationship and have the children suffer those consequences. It is a matter of choosing between the lesser of two evils. Only Jurs can make that choice.

  the "last night of the proms" has, for years, been an orgy of british patriotic singing and flag waving to mark the end of the season of musical "promenades".. last night the patriotic stuff was cancelled.

  Hi Jurs,

  If I understand you correctly, you are just saying that the pot smoking is the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't think you're being self righteous or holier than thou. I think you are coming to understand what it is you want out of life and are setting healthy boundaries for yourself.

  Some of the others have already stated it for you. You have 2 choices. You can take care of the problem now, and get on with your life...or suffer years longer and still take care of the problem later.

  MANY alcoholics go into treatment and recovery and are able to be wonderful spouses and parents. The key question for you is, does he admit that alchohol is causing a problem in your relationship and is he willing to do something about it? Treatment and recovery? If not...AND THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION...then whatever more time you spend with him will be wasted. Only you know your situation. I lived with my alcoholic spouse for 15 years. If I knew then what I knew now, I wouldn't have wasted those 14 YEARS after I discovered the problem.

  I wish you well, whatever you decide. Just remember, you cannot control his drinking or make him stop...he must WANT to and be willing to change. YOU must do what is best for you and the kids.

  Your post made me glad my mother didn't call me, the conversation would have started out similarly. Only my mom has probably already branded me an apostate. My father was never a witness, and my mother has had to live with the cognitive dissonance of believing that her husband of all these years would die if Armageddon came tomorrow, so I guess by now she can live with the thought that so would 3 of her 4 children. Sad...very sad.

  I second Danny's thoughts...I hope you are feeling well today. Take care of yourself

  Mr. Outnfree doing well...

  just thought this would be the quickest way to let those of you who have sent positive thoughts and prayers our way know that my husband survived thursday's open heart surgery with flying colors (more or less -- a too long getting off the ventilator for my nerves!

  ) and is moving to a "step-up" post-surgical floor out of icu this morning.

  it's been a helluva week, hasn't it?.

  Thanks for the update on hubby's well being. I was thinking about you and your family. I'm sure you and your kids are greatly relieved.

  I don't know about the rest of you, but this week has made me reflect on the important things in life...NEVER letting a day go by without telling those we love how important they are to us.

  10 years since my father died

  it's been over 10 years now since my father died.

  i was a jw at the time.

  i (foolishly) felt relieved at the time thinking that now he would get a resurrection and wouldn't die at armageddon.

  Thank you for sharing that with us. You must still be dealing with some residual pain and guilt. I am so sorry...not easy issues to struggle with.

  I agree with what Zazu said, don't give up on those relatives yet. Just like you, the passing of time has probably changed their lives and perspectives.

  One thing that comforts my husband and myself(we both lost all of our family, on both sides, except for my sister) is that we are starting NEW family traditions and strengths of bonds with OUR children. We look forward to the time when they have children, and we all get together at holiday times, and see the cousins, aunts and uncles relating to one another without man made restrictions of religious doctrine(we hope). So while you may have left behind some family relationships...forge ahead with your OWN little family circle, and watch it grow and widen over the years, until future generations will be touched by YOUR acts of love and acceptance.

  And I agree with Intro, I know I am one of many who welcomes and appreciates your friendship.

  Then perhaps Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson would like to go live somewhere else?

  I for one would not miss them. They can take any like minded followers with them. I'm sure with the direction of the holy spirit they can find whatever country or island that God is now benevolently protecting with his almighty blessing.

  Hi Closer,

  I work for an investment firm, and I can tell you that the majority of our clients have already informed us that they will be purchasing stock Monday. Only one asked about selling out, and the broker was able to persuade him otherwise. We're not talking about people investing thousands at a time, but just the fact that they will be buying instead of selling will be helpful.

  Yes the market was already in a downward swing, had been for awhile. It happens, regularly. World events definitely effect the market, many times the long term effect is actually a rebound. We will see. I personally won't be selling anything on Monday.
