  Don't want to stumble anyone!

  did you have narrow minded turds as elders/overseers in your congregation?

  yup so did i...they're everwhere.. "there was this one time..at band camp"....it was in a hired hall actually...where we used to organise congregation functions like farewells etc.

  this usually consisted of food...non alcoholic beverages...and some entertainment...usually square dancing and some skits...and a presentation or speech.. at one function a particular elder was offended that the 'gay gordon' was one of the dances for the evening...so he promptly left...yup...at the next function it was renamed the 'happy gordon'...as his conscience wouldn't allow him to attend otherwise.

  Argggghhhh!! Rotten memories surfacing. [>:(]

  My uncle the KING of all fanatic JW's came to visit his son and my brother at their new apartment. These two were 18 & 19 years old, it was after a meeting and a few of us went over to their apartment to watch TV. Remember, I was there with my brother and my cousin, and a couple of others. We were all sitting in the living room when Uncle knocks on the door and opens it. He takes one look around the room and thunders: "I can't believe you call yourselves witnesses. I'm disgusted with all of you!" Then he turns around and storms out the door.

  I guess he was insightful enough as an elder and father of 5 kids to know that we were all sinner wannabes...just waiting for a chance to get naked and do the dirty deed on the floor in front of each other.[8>]

  I never did get an apology out of him. I told him how much it hurt my feelings for him to have said that to me, and all he said was it was foolish of me to put myself in such a dangerous situation. End of discussion! Well, I found out later that religious fundy's who are obsessed with sex, sincerely believe that everyone else is too. And there's usually a deep dark secret why they feel that way. Stupid uncle. And to think I used to respect his opinion. By the way, Rod McMahan if you're out there...you lost all respect I ever had for you a loooooong time ago. You screwed up your own family and then contributed to screwing up ours. BITE ME!

  i've kept in touch with a man who no longer posts here.

  in a recent email, after exchanging the ways that we were both deprived of a healthy childhood/adolescence since we were both raised in the truth, he made the statement that anything done differently back then would have produced a different him now; and since he likes the person he is now, not all of what happened in his past was for no good.

  i've thought (and said) the same thing myself.

  Greatly enjoyed your post Teejay,

  Next Generation is my favorite Star Trek series, I found many of the episodes thought provoking.

  I have applied this thinking in my life many times. I regret being raised a witness and marrying my first husband...he was totally wrong for me. But I would not have my 2 beautiful sons if I had done things differently, and I wouldn't want them to be any different. So, while in some ways I feel those 15 years of marriage were wasted...in other ways I see them as infinitely valuable!

  Darkest before the dawn

  well, this day started out really bad with a panic attack about 8am at my doctor's office and a dark mood that lasted all day.. it ended with me getting a job as a data base and marketing assistant with a national banking association where i get to work from home part time with full benefits while i am going to school.. thanks for always letting me voice my feelings here.

  i think getting it out helps me.

  maybe someday soon i won't need to do it anymore.. take care and thanks for caring about me.

  Oh, so this is the same lady Eman? Talk about a person with issues!!

  I find it interesting that the men in my experience have an easier time recognizing this type of behavior for what it is, and refusing to play the game any more. But the women I've known(myself included) have a harder time seeing it clearly and taking a firm stand. Is it because of the nurturing instincts we possess? Does that make it harder for us to distance ourselves emotionally and look at things objectively? I for one am thankful I finally figured it out and learned to do that. No one else will find it easy to make an emotional hostage of me again. I would just as happily tell them I could live the rest of my life in quiet serenity if I never saw them again!

  Nice guys left in the cold

  i started wondering about the "nice" guys (such as myself).... it's been my experience that women tend not to go for the "nice" guy who has a lot to offer - big heart, kind, good income, etc.

  they seem far more likely to go for the aggressive "jerk" or "rebel" who treats them like dirt.. why is that?.

  I mean, when I was 14 years old maybe...but when a lady grows up, she leaves that silliness behind her. I've been married twice, and they were both "nice guys". Of course the one I'm married to now, is a nice combo of thrilling and nice.

  Here's a hint for you. My idea of "thrilling" is: When you have such a deep emotional connection, that even when he walks in the room, you tingle at his presence. It's not because of anything he does, but who he is. A guy that is self assured, has a good sense of humor, and is just a kind person, is all the thrill I need. You gotta have that "connection", that's all there is to it.

  i remember the andy griffith show (featuring the affable deputy fife) from the earliest times of my life.

  it will be popular when my daughter is old and gray, no doubt.

  but now... i'm beginning to wonder about me.... i find myself watching i love lucy whenever it's on, and i once hated... i say hated, the show.
