That's something that gets me about JWs. It is good that people do something and leave memories and a legacy for years.
Nothing wrong with personal recognition.
he was my dad's favorite.
i can remember many many evenings my uncles coming over (all jw's) and listening to the old vinyl records (which i still enjoy).
its kind of a strange time in my life.
That's something that gets me about JWs. It is good that people do something and leave memories and a legacy for years.
Nothing wrong with personal recognition.
well i wouldn't really call it hard work, but i have to come into the office and sit and wait for the phone to ring.
i work every 3rd weekend and it really is unpleasant.
9 hours each day with nothing to do but wait for the phone to ring.
You mean you are missing meetings because of work?
I have to work every 4th sunday. Overtime and a good excuse to get out of the meetings. I get my email read and read stuff on here and other projects.
I can download the Watchtower and read it, why go to the meeting and hear someone read it and the audience reread it.
the governing body members do not want anyone to have "higher" education, unless, as we all know, it benefits them.
lol.
to keep millions of people, under educated, under fulfilled, strictly obedient to them, makes jehovah's witnesses, easier to manipulate, easier to handle, easier to make into drones.. wake up people!.
Not focusing on University, but on University sports...
The GDP would be so much higher if there were no University sports. All of the time lost at work with sports watching and pools.
So much resources put into college sports. Partying and Frat houses.
I have to say that discouraging University isn't all bad because it discourages those mindless sports.
i caught yet another revisionist history deception in todays wt lesson.. .
here is a quote from paragraph 4 of the 2/15/13 study edition.
"decades before 1914, jehovah's worshippers declared to the nations that the end of "the appointed times of the nations" would come in that year and that the world would enter into an unequaled period of trouble.".
I'm not seeing the problem because the whole thing was vague. The whole article was vague.
Also, I don't see how people can criticize Russell and those back then. They did the best they could with what they had.
And I don't see those as prophesies since they were using the Bible as a guide. Prophesies require something to be original.
i have always wondered who will be raised first people such as noah, job, enoch, etc; or people who die right before armaggeddon?
if noah, job, are raised first would not they be terrified with all of the modern inventions they will see such as cars, airplanes, clothes, watches, tvs, radios, and all of the modern technologies.
also, if people lived to 900 years back then would not methusalan be shocked if a person raised tells him they were only 20 years old when they died?
Villagegirl, why so negative on them?
The Bible does not say much on the subject and people have asked so the Wt articles have written on it. The order presented is logical.
As for the resurrection being preposterous; do you have a better idea for bringing back the dead?
health care studies are showing obese body weight index is worse than smoking "death sticks", so how is the tower going to address their growing problem of overweight elders and elderettes?
if a organization is able to disfellowship a member for smoking, why not do the same with other vices and crutches their people use to hide stress, emotional disorders and depression?
employers are asking for a bmi test a their potential employees to create a diet to get healthy.
People are disfellowshipped for alcoholism.
And all religions look badly upon smoking and drinking.
so i get a text message this morning from an elder (also an old friend) from my hall.
(mind you i haven't been to meetings in months) he says the following:.
elder: did you hear about what happend in bos?
I really hate how Witnesses will send emails asking how the Witnesses are in areas where disasters hit?
It is bad that no Witnesses get hurt but don't care about the others? Other than ones to preach to?
"I don't always like what the governing body is doing or how they approach things, however, I'm not so arrogant as to believe that I know better. Also, I recognize that they are not perfect"
I hate those expressions. When people ask "Do you know more than the governing body"? As if their being such gives them knowledge.
What does perfection have to do with anything? Is the assumption that a perfect person will make the right choice everytime?
Not without full knowlege.
they do not do a good job of exploring why different people stop going to the meetings and make any improvements.. this is a quote from another topic.
it reminds me of the may 15 2012 study article about marry only in the lord, p 4 para7.
they are not trying to improve their product (the people).
What does not make sense is that they quote from Deut 7
“When Jehovah your God at last brings you into the land to which you are going so as to take possession of it,+ he must also clear away populous nations from before you...And Jehovah your God will certainly abandon them to you, and you must defeat them.+ You should without fail devote them to destruction.+ You must conclude no covenant with them nor show them any favor.+ 3 And you must form no marriage alliance with them. Your daughter you must not give to his son, and his daughter you must not take for your son. + 4 For he will turn your son from following me, and they will certainly serve other gods; + and Jehovah’s anger will indeed blaze against YOU , and he will certainly annihilate you in a hurry. +"
If they defeated and destroyed them; how would any of their sons or daughters turn the Israelites to their religion? If Jehovah helped the Israelites defeat them, why would they turn to the losing god? Is the losing god so much more attractive than Jehovah was? Why would He have so little faith in himself? Infact those defeated would either conceed to the victors, or hate them.
What did the Polish and other countries that the Nazi's invade do? Did the Nazi soldiers turn to the other side when they took women from the other side?
It just doesn't seem real? It seems more paranoid than reality and does not make sense.
and then, immediately after babylon the great is destroyed, almost without a break, look at matt 24 :29 -immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.. now in what sense will the sun be destroyed and the moon not give its light?
are you ready for that?.
and you'll fall across the finish line into the new world !
"how does one manage to sleep while out in service"
Easy, I'd make care groups of 3, the other 2 would go on studies or long calls and I would stay in the car, catch some sleep and count time.
Once I was on a Bible study with someone and I was so tired that I requested to nap on their couch.
