Dont be rediculous. The screws are being turned ever tighter. Recent CO visits have highlighted that df'ing is a 'loving arrangment'. They are not losikg anything. as someone noted earlier, by magnamiously "allowing" df'd ones to get a km they look good, but the truth is that by puting it on the internet they could get it anyway. Its a cost cutting measure, period. The letter makes it crystal clear at the end by suggesting congregation evaluate if they need to reduce the number of km's ordered.

Are we starting to treat DF people differently?
by Quarterback insome may remember the time when the private study edition of the wt wasn't to be made available to outsiders, and the df'd.. now, with the recent boe letter, sept 1, 2014, it specifically states that jw.org is making the km available even for df'd individuals.. do you sense a new trend developing?.

Why Do Witnesses Promote A Unhealthy Lifestyle, My COBE weighs 340lbs (5ft 7in).
by BucketShopBill inplease don't take this the wrong way if your battling weight problems, that's not what this thread is meant to talk about.
i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.
i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".

An interesting question. To be fair, anything said is purly anictodial unless someone has weighed a sizable sample of congregations and compared the mean result to similar cross sections of the surrounding areas....
but yes i think being overweight is a dubbie problem. The question though is do they "encourage it"..... ?
the short answer is No. The long answer yes.
There is nothing in print that says its ok to be fat. In fact there are referances that encourage one to respect tge life god has given blah blah blah....
But the long answer yes part, imho, is what has already been said here, that the lifestyle the org promotes most definatly encourages obesiety and i certainly see plenty of it. The constant hustle, the stress, the lack of time too actually take care of onesself in the face of the kingdoms interests..... And yes definatly the concept that the new world will fix it all so screw it and eat yourself happy.

I had a convereation with a friend in that department in patterson .... I could not out right ask about this but i gave several openings and asked some leading questions.... Not a hint that such a profound event had taken place. proof of nothing I know, but I have now have serious doubts about the veracity of this report.

When will JW Land Peak?
by thedepressedsoul inid like to start off by saying that if you look at history, every big businesses, organization etc... eventually peaks.
people think microsoft is peaking due to competition.
people are saying religion in general has peaked.

Its a very interesting question and the answers already given equally as interesting.
From an insiders perspective i would agree the peak is past. The excitment and buzz has gone. My congregation is lively and people are "happy", as far as that goes in the cult, but the die hard adherance to cult concepts isnt there, the zeal for all things dubbie just isnt anywhere near as tangible. The big deal of the international was talk up and talked up...... And it wiffed by, face book posts made, its already forgotten.
Pew reports that at least 1/3 of borns in leave maybe as much as 2/3. That seems about right to me. I also agree that only disasters drive people TO the org, be they natural, large scale disasters or more personal "disaters" like divorce, illness or someother hardship that cause people to search for answers. Its a cult and thats the draw, at its core, is a sense of certainty. interestingly, current world events dont seem to be driving recruiting, and that does supprise me, but it may be a sign of how other media, like the internet, is making an impact.
fincially, i also agree the peak is long past. The real estate sell off is proof positive. As an aside, the KH scam is going to ramp up, or so word in the org is. With the "forgiving" of loans congregations are bekng activly emcouraged to seek sites to build. Take that in For a minute.

How do Witnesses get past Romans 12:1 ?
by stuckinarut2 ini often wonder how does the average jw get past the obvious words at romans 12:1.
"present yourself...acceptable to god, with your power of reason".
the very essence of being a witness is to switch off your thinking reasoning, and just blindly follow the gb?.

As data dog noted, jw's are taught that to accept what the slave says is reasonable. You study to prove the slave true. When you start from a baseline that the slave is true you find evidance readily to support that, despite anything to the contrary. The point is, the assumption is always in the slaves infalibity, thus it would be unreasonable to reject what they say... Or print.

How to Avoid the Faithless Spirit of most here-
by DocHouse in1- pray to god (whomever you may imagine him to be) asking for understanding.
2- study the background about the bible (from non-religious sources) to see where it came from.
3- discard (or at least set aside) chuyrch claims and dogma.. 4- read it, looking up archaeological/historical sources about the places and peoples referred to.

Service Meeting Adjustment w/c 1st September
by konceptual99 inprobably nothing of major note but there is an adjustment to the service meeting of w/c 1st september to allow for a 15 min local needs the society have asked the elders to deliver.
this is in uk and i've no idea if it affects other regions.. if it's uk only then i suspect it's either specifically about donations or more likely the status of the new branch facility, asking for volunteers/money.
given that the elder delivering it in our hall is prominent on the local rbc then i suspect the latter.. .

Nothing in the USA. As you noted, likely something of local importance only.

Is taking a blood transfusion a "Disfellowshipping or Disassoication" offense?
by booker-t ini remember back in the day when i was a devout jw in the 90s elders would go to the hospital to try and see if a person took a blood transfusion.
i remember my cousin was having surgery after a severe car accident and if he did not take blood the doctor said he would have died.
the elder came to the hospital and badgered my cousin's wife until she told him my cousin did get some blood.

Lest we overlook, the differentiation on DF'ing and DA'ing came into play because the org promised one small euorpean country, belgium, that they wouldnt kick people out for taking a transfusion. what they didnt say was that it would viewed going forward as the person voluntarily having left the org.
the only other DA'ing offense is military service: the branch CANNOT, in the usa, by law, discriminate against somewho serves in the military for anyreason. Thus it too became a DA offense and not a DF'ing offense. Some local dumbasses wrote a letter to brooklyn a few years df'ing someone for joining the military. The branch called as soon as they got the letter and said, and i quote, "this didnt happen. You didnt write this letter. We didnt receive it."

@stubble, In fairness that quote you pulled was used as an example of what NOT to do or say. The "good" elders didnt say any thing of that sort. Lets hang them for they actually say

Something Big is Coming...
by notsurewheretogo inthe annual meeting of the governing body of jehovah's witnesses will be in october 2014.. .. in november 2013, just after the last one they published this now famous statement in the 15th of november 2013 watchtower page 16 paragraph 17 says:.
"at that time, the lifesaving direction that we receive from jehovahs organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.
all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.".

Why does everyone assume it would be some huge change in doctrine that would be perceived as "relaxing" or making the religion more appealing? This GB seems intent on making things harder and making the load heavy. I predict any changes will be more asine, make the weight more oppresive and tighten things on dubbies.
