i was just wondering what your views were about calling god jehovah.
i appreciate that there is scriptures that says to call on his name, but if i were to meet the queen or president bush it would grossly disrespectful to say hi there elizabeth or how you doing george.
if this is the case with mere men and women in positions of power, is it not imaginable to address god on first name terms?
Seems to me all the names have been the invention of men. To name, is to make what has been named a thing; an object captured in time and space. Defined by subtle boundaries, we can now hold it in our mind as what we believe to be a hole concept, a tamed thing within our understanding. I favor "I am" but i'm not offended by any name people have given God.

I've lost patience with the view that they are "sincere".The reason why? Because so many carefully crafted talks and Watchtower articles require deliberate skill in deception.
Also, many of them are privately aware that much of what they print is simply for publishers consumption - not the truth,
just something needed for their collective survival.

Hear hear Metatron, Anyone asking the right questions of the elders will be labeled an apostate and accused of reading "forbidden" material, because the WT can judge what you have come to know by the way you behave and the questions you ask, so we can judge what thay know by there behavior and the questions thay refuse to answer. Someone knows; not everyone, not most, but some do.
yesterday afternoon, one of the local elders called me.
he said he wanted hear my assessment of how my mom is doing, since she moved to assisted living, and if there was anything he could do.
he was very nice, charming actually, and i had a couple of suggestions and he said he would get right on it.. then he told me about the upcoming co visit the end of april and then the date for the memorial.

We can not partake (passive) at home, as we are not partaking now. However to reject (active) we must attend the memorial (the only annual JW celebration) be offered the emblems (the representation of Christ), take them up and with a conscious choice in an act of symbolic rejection pass them on untouched.
To understand the purpose of this rite we need only understand that by our active participation in the ritual we are rejecting the hope offered us by The Christ and we are publicly confess, however passively, the WT as our only hope. The WT then takes on for us, all the saving aspects of Christ. The WT becomes the only "way", the "gate"...

with the rejection Christ we must now look to the WT and ask our self's "were else is there to go?" The Memorial is a very, very powerful statement with far reaching and lasting implications. I can understand feeling compelled to attend the memorial but please keep in mind the base nature of the ritual

why is it that jw's insist that you must confess your serious sins to earthly men in order to "put yourself right" with jehovah?.
small isolated sins don't seem to matter much.
however, there does seem to be a finely drawn line that demands confession to elders.. interestingly, once that finely drawn line has been crossed that demands confession to elders, so too has the line of what constitues a disfellowshipping offence.. for example, occasional masturbation is just about one side of that line, do it while someone talks dirty to you and you've crossed that line and entered the disfellowshipping area.

an age god decided a man was of age.because if jesus was 30 and adam was only 25 then the devil has a legal case that god is cheating, that jesus had longer to develop than adam.

What good is prophecy? be it true or false It can't help you. You live now today, this minute. the present was created for us and is all we have. are we loving now? do we have compassion for our fellow man this minute? are we living this moment for the glory of God with lucid consciousness? The best we can do is say, yes sometimes but it is not enough. We can learn all that is known but it is not enough. We can believe with all our harts but it is not enough. these things are not the "Gate" or the "Way" That place belongs to the Grace by which we are saved and to Jesus who brings it to the world.
