not the terrible act of terrorism that we all saw on tv.... i was thinking of the 30,000 children under the age of 5 who will have died on the same day from malnutrition and other preventable diseases.
slow, horrible deaths.
these people are poor but the parents must love them as much as any 'rich westener' loves theirs.. the real tragic thing is that another 30,000 will die today and another 30,000 tomorrow... over 12 million a year in total .

in the aftermath of tuesday's disaster, i can reflect on the past three weeks as the "summer from hell!".
my stepfather died on august 24, then my beloved cousin, sharon, took a dramatic turn for the worse, and died on september 6. we had barely gotten over the trauma of her memorial service on sunday, when this awful situation happened in our country.
sharon's sons had flown here from wisconsin and new york to be here the last few days of their mother's life, and now are stranded far from home, due to the airlines being out of commission, so to speak.. we were talking today about how when things finally get back to normal, in our lives, how sharon's death will hit us so hard!!

The bombing of Japan and the attack on America are both horrible. At least the bombing stopped the war. The attack we just suffered is provoking one.

i appreciate the words of another poster who commented that he felt it unwise to post in anger.
i have tried to hold calm and keep my anger in check, but that started to change with my nato posting yesterday.. i am set back over 30 years: i was raised to respect all races, and not to be prejudiced.
i was also raised a proud american, and that it was important not to tolerate bullies.
Tuesday is a day that has change my life for God knows how long. I hope the change is for the better, it's to early to tell, time will tell.
I feel people in general will respond in a self-sacrificing way. I think even the very rich will exersize restraint when the stock markets finally open.
We are all in pain if we're not something is very wrong somewhere.
The final outcome must be for good, if it is, then we do great honor for the innocent that have died.
