do any of you good people of jw.com remember going to a district convention and hearing that little announcement the chairman would make before the bible-drama started?.

it generally went like this: "please remain seated during the drama and please do not obstruct other peoples view if using recording equipment such as camcorders" and he would also say "please do not use flash photography because it distracts others and is of little use.".

they made such a fuss anyone would think we were all going to witness the second coming of christ, floating down on his chariot onto the field!

And remember, I *did* grow up as a witness, so I have a good excuse, but....

I honestly did not realize they were miming to a taped recording. Until I was, like, TWENTY or something.

Horribly embarrasing, I know. I just kept looking for the microphones they must have had hidden.

You know, it didn't even clue me in that they always sounded the same, year after year after year.

What Are You All Doing Now?

i am at a crossroads in my life, and wanted your opinions:.

i have been d/f for 18 months, i have learnt enough to know jws are completely misguided, but my sis has also been d/a for questioning things, she has been doing the alpha course and is getting baptised at a baptist church next weekend, which i am very pleased for her to be doing if she feels it's right.

i am in a quandry as i am very sceptical about going to another religion, i know many i have spoken to say, it isn't joining a religion but just associating with other christians.

Seriously, though. Have you considered chucking the whole damn book out? I mean, it is obvious that most of what is contained in it is not literal history, nor accurate. Fanciful stories, at best, and that's not the kind of thing to base life decisions on.

The question, of course, is how he came to have that 'personal belief'.

In any case, I take Reeve's quote as a good example of what is wrong with the leadership in this country. It caters to religion. Any religion. It should not.

Right now, it is leaning religious right, and Bush *is* taking the advice of said group. What WOULD happen if the JWs got into that 'inner circle'?

I'm sure we'd all agree that, however unlikely, that would be a disaster. What about other fundy groups? Is it okay to allow groups with a blatant racist agenda? No, of course not. Who gets to pick and choose which religious beliefs are 'okay' to force on an entire nation?

Why take ANY steps towards that point?
