Immoral sleeping arrangement?
by hoser ini'm reading through the watchtower rule book right now and i came to the chapter clarification and guidelines on handling certain matters.
there is a part about scriptural divorce and even if adultery is not proved if your ex stayed all night or is involved in an immoral sleeping arrangement you can get scriptural grounds to remarry.. .
they make a rule, then they have to make a rule for the rule, make another rule for the rule for the rule.

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!!!!!!
by Julia Orwell inthat's how i feel when i see these crazy new wt study articles and the inane reasoning contained therein, and the indoctrination machines of meetings run by all those little hardened human cogs and the unending stream of propaganda we're pitched up against.
.. you could spend all your time working through those wt articles (see cedar's post on the latest 'new light') and refuting the stupidity, and yet most witnesses aren't even concerned with changes to the fds or 144 000 because like all of humanity they're too busy trying to scratch a living as it is.
such airy doctrine changes don't have any effect on their day to day lives and is thus irrelevant.

I know that sometimes I get burnt out just studying TTATT, ways to try and free my wife and I have to tell myself to take a break from it all and dive into something "normal".

I too suffered from paranoia when smoking pot. It's not even worth it when you can't enjoy it or it leaves you feeling paranoid. I can also tell you that if the stress in your life is keeping you awake at night then you desperately need to find a healthy way to sleep. You would be amazed how quickly a lack of sleep can lead to depression and DELUSION. I am serious, at one point in the last year I went weeks with virtually no sleep and I began to have hallucinations when I closed my eyes. Very scary stuff, so please if that is a factor, get some rest because I immediately improved after just a few nights of actually getting a normal nights sleep I was myself again.
Find someone, even a therapist to lean on and help you sort things out.I think it's awesome you went to a Catholic college, but man how weird for a witness kid.
Best of luck!

Welcome. As everyone else has said, education is not a safe guard against mind control. I was degreed when I started with the Dubs and I was as someone else put it "more creative" with my rationalizations as to why this was "the truth".
Get a copy of Freedom of Mind and Combatting Cult Mind Control by Steve Hassan, you MUST read them.

There was a knock at the door....
by exwhyzee inor more like a thunking sound really, which set our little dog into a fit of barking.
i crawled out from behind the fridge where i was doing a repair on the waterline for the icemaker, so i could go see what all the commotion was about.
i fugured it was going to be my neighbor returning my ladder but instead it was jw's handing out memorial invites.. the woman and the young man (her 20 something son) were people i had known but hadn't seen since we faded 4+ years ago.

You deserve a pat on the back. You did very well under duress, which means it really came from the heart. You may have changed their lives!!! As for the guilt....life ain't always beautiful, and sometimes being direct is what it takes get someone thinking.

Flipping out at the meeting
by BU2B inunfortunatley, i still go to many meetings as i am working on getting my wife to wake up.
for the most part i maintain my composure but there have been two or three times when i actually have gotten so upset and the frustration built so high that i have come very come close to actually slamming something down or pounding the table in the literature room, or shouting out how i felt!
has anyone else felt this way?

Just wanted to throw my hat in here. I too have come close to losing it at times. Ultimately it is why I stopped attending Satan's lair with my wife. It would eat me up so bad that I would make her uncomfortable and occassionally ruin the day because when it was over I really had to vent and we would get into it.

My husband MISSED the meeting today! AGAIN!!!
by Julia Orwell inyep, i was comparing the nwt with the greek, which, incidentally uses words like 'grace' and 'spirit' instead of 'undeserved kindness' and 'gifts of the spirit'.
i pointed out these mistranslations to my dear husband.. then i showed him 2 tim 2:5-6 in the nwt and the original greek (strong's, westcott and hort) as well, where it says jesus became mediator for all and showed him in the wt where it says jesus is only mediator for 144 000. i also showed him an instance in the wt where it raves on about hating 'apostates' and others, then showed him matthew 5:44 "however i say to you: continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you.".
i didn't have to say anything 'apostate'; just show him the contrasting texts.. then i showed him the "shepherd" book where it says one can get dfd for "deliberately spreading teachings contraryto bible truth as taught by jebovah's witnesses" (ibid, pg 65) and told him that i've deliberately told him something different to the wt teaching therefore in the elders' eyes, i can be dfd.

I got my attempted memorial guilt trip just now....
by Witness My Fury inknock on the door and cobe and wife (my old group overseer) standing in the cold.. bollocks!
...i consider for about 1 second leaving them out there and just talking holding the door... but think better of it as it was cold an so invited them to step inside.. just passing thru and doing some calls he says, ... i know why he's here and after the preliminaries (how are you, we miss you etc), i preempted him and sped things right along.. "i can guess why you are here" i said, "it being memorial season and all.
" he makes a jokey point about nothing gets past me does it.. he looks uncomfortable, then does the invite manouver and says "you are welcome to come" followed by "we'd like to see you there.".

It's remarks like that "Stubborn personality" that really get my blood boiling! They think everyone "knows it's the truth" and "know what's right" so when someone doesn't want to be a zombie like them they view you as puffed up and stubborn. They are all so blind they can't even see their hand in front of their face. It makes me so angry.
