andyman stated in another thread:this got me thinking about the change in the 1914 generation.
i remember how this was a very important point when i was studying back in the late 80's.
it was explained to me over and over that this system would defenitly end before the generation of 1914 passed away.
I was in the car group in service when this new light was explained to me.
I said out loud, "I'm going to become an apostate and never go out in service anymore."
Everybody heard me. It was a big station wagon full of people.
This produced a very uncomfortable two and a half hours.
I was out within two years.

just the other night i was feeling a bit down and when i went to bed i started to pray , then remebered i dont believe in god.
my whole life i believed there was a supreme being watching over me , who i could talk to and was listening to our prayers.its hard to get rid of that feeling from the back of you mind.
sometimes, when i do something i think i shouldn't , i start to say a quick prayer but then stop when i realise i'm just talking to myself.
I agree that the Jehovah concept is primitive. But does that make it less valuable? I think that we are in danger of civilizing ourselves out of existence. We don't even kill murderers, rapists, and child molesters anymore - even though those immensely satisfying concepts are what Jehovah commanded.
I like Jehovah. I like talking to him.

i will be talking with a jw soon about the trinity.
she tells me that she can use any translation to disprove the trinity and that jesus is not divine.
i feel good about talking to her but i would love to know their plan.
The trinity is a very interesting way of looking at God. JW's reject it out of hand.
My conception of the Trinity is that "perfect" or non-sinful sapient creatures have a level of connection with Jehovah ("The Father") that we cannot fathom. We sinful creatures must pray, or willfully communicate with the Father through Jesus ("The Son") by an action of divine power. But I think that perfect creatures, like Jesus the man, can communicate with the Father in a more complete and perfect way, without even words to translate the divine thoughts. Thus, to a sinful outsider, it could seem like the two minds were completely united.
Think on this: Adam and Eve had to take an action to sever the contact with the Father. Until then, they and Jehovah were "one" in a sense that we cannot understand.
Thus, many personalities can be united in perfection, without losing a bit of individuality or free will.
Many theories of the Trinity demand three personalities, because three is a number of ancient pagan significance. Other than that, there is no basis for thinking that the holy spirit has a personality.

Joanna asked if it was our job to police the Middle East forever.
Yes it is. Because we can, and we have to. If they could police themselves, they would be doing it by now.
The NZ'er said he is glad that US ships can't stop in his ports. Well, the US ships have kept the Japanese sun from flying over your soil. They hold back the Red Chinese (Could New Zealand be the next Tibet?) The only way the NZ'ers can impose a laughable resolution like banning nuclear ships is if we let you.
Democracy is a better evolved form of government than the primitive autocracies of the Middle East. Not perfect, but more highly evolved, and the rest of the world needs to wake up and evolve or be pushed into extinction.
The only way the Italians can get away with dancing for peace is if hardworking American and British blood is poured out on the sands of the East for their protection. At least Italy won't be trying to help us like they "helped" Hitler.

minimus posted a thread lately asking for questions you'd like to see answered:.
prisca asked how many online romances there were here.. i got to thinking about that at work, among other things (see previous thread).
and besides the "slim pickings" mentioned by a poster in another thread, another potential problem came to mind.. we can probably divide ourselves into two groups here: the "ex-jw's' and the "never-jw's.
Well,
I prefer up close and personal contact anyway. and I'm engaged. So online romances are out of the question. Besides, if you are looking for love, there are plenty of websites devoted to that purpose. What I am looking for is the common bond between minds that similar experiences can produce.

.
well i tried to do this yest and i lost all of it, :( lot of typing lost, but oh well, i would welcome feedback from anyone who has been through similar things to me, i got the truth 13 yrs ago, and i never felt like i was wanted not really, i was with a man and had 3 kids with him when i came into contact with the witnesses, but he was a pedophile so i found out and had been doing things to our kids since they were born, i ditched him, he walked from 2 high court trials, and no one in my cong cared abt me, they didnt want to know.
said it was in my head, anyway, i struggled for years i hated going to conventions and being ignored by my own cong, it was just me and my daughter on our own all the time trying to serve jehovah, i didnt feel happy but i just wanted to please my god and i just tried my best, i always felt left out and i was never asked to do demos at the hall, its like they were just putting up with me, i was always pulled in for stupid things like the messages i put on my answerphone cuz some stupid stuck up old sister didnt like it.
You're safe now, Nellie. They can't hurt you. They think they have so much power, but they are the weakest things on the face of the earth.

even syria voted against iraq by voting for the un resolution.
wow!
and china did not abstain as they have in the past ... the full 15 member sercurity council gave the usa/uk what they want ... while there are no automatic military triggers, the resolution does allow for unilateral action by member states if iraq continues "material breach" which is significant language in un speak.
I have a historical comparison:
Again, I agree with you that Saddam is a despicable and evil man, but the world is full of such leaders. Do you suggest we go around the world and effect regime change wherever we, the US, the epitome of morality, find someone who we deem unfitting to lead a country. What gives us the right apart from our might. We have faired horribly in the past (just look at Afghanistan its worse and more corrupt than it was before we invaded just about everywhere but the capital).
Rome, in the waning days of its Republic, defeated Carthage, its longtime rival for Mediterranean control. With the Carthaginean fleet out of commission, piracy multiplied on the high seas. This threatened the grain shipments that fed the Roman populace.
So the Roman Senate gave General Pompey a massive amount of money, troops, and ships - with the proviso that he destroy the pirates. He was permitted to invade and destroy land bases up to 50 miles from the shore.
This was the beginning of the Roman Empire. It was a hard time to be a pirate, or a barbarian, but it was the grandest civilization in Europe until recently. Their might did not give them the right, but they had the right to use their might in their own defense.
Similarly, today, after the collapse of the Soviet bloc, hundreds of little terrorist organizations suddenly have almost free reign over large swaths of territory. They threaten the oil shipments that are just as vital to our way of life as the grain was to ancient Rome. What we need is a modern day Pompey, to lead our armies to victory over the pirates of today's world. Our might does not give us the right to destroy countries, but we have the right to use our might in our own defense.
Also, somebody said that Afghanistan is worse now than ever before. That is only partially true, and only because peacenik do-gooders who are too scared to risk their own political careers for the sake of world stability want to keep the peacekeepers in Kabul, and not let them do their job. These same bastards left the UN troops helpless observers in Rwanda.

please forgive me if this goes to the wrong forum.
it's the first time i've posted anything on the internet.
i must commend you on the time and research you all have done on this subject.
My recommendation is to do it the way I did it,
I went to college, got really really drunk, and then hopped into bed with two college coeds at the same time.
However, I realize that you might have a problem with that flamboyant style of rebellion. And if you still believe in Jehovah, you'll have problems along those lines. So, if you want to maintain a clean moral conscience, DA yourself.
It's fiercer and harder than anything you've been prepared for. It hurt. Dear God, it hurt. Thank Jehovah I hadn't invested too much of my life in that Behemoth. But overall, if you go out, and tell everyone WHY you went out, it might convince some others to join you.
I'm with you on scriptural grounds. I think the disgusting thing has stood in the holy place, and the man of lawlessness has been revealed (and it wasn't me... this time), and anybody in the WT should run for it!
BTW, I'm thinking of hitting up the next convention with some leaflets stressing the UN connection and connecting it with the disgusting thing of Daniel. Comments anyone?
