My field service group leader wants to meet me
by Powermetal4ever inhe kind of invited me to a barbecue or something, and asked if my parents wanted to come along as well.
it felt really awkard, i mean i am 20++.
i was sceptic, so he told me he would send me a sms about an other fitting day instead.i probably didnt look too happy about that either, so he told me that maybe he could invite some other in the group.

Unless you are interested in an informal dose of guilt, fear and obligation, then I wouldn't go. -

Guns. Well said Mr President, if only your countrymen had the same courage to consider changing course.
by nicolaou inive had to make statements like this too many times.
communities like this have had to endure tragedies like this too many times.
once again, communities [were harmed] because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no problem getting their hands on a gun.. lets be clear: at some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.

Sigh. It's stupid bullsh#t like this that makes it harder to convince my wife that we could be safe living in the U.S. So much for moving back home anytime soon... -

Walk around outside most of the day(s). Sleep in the car while pretending to listen to the program on the radio.
Here's a better idea: just don't go.

Preach, preach, preach....feel guilty...preach some more
by Tornintwo insince starting to wake up, i can't help notice how so many talks emphasise preaching, increasing your hours, pioneering etc...with a hefty load of guilt on the side.. i always noticed the guilt, but now i'm noticing how talks that seem to start out on another issue always seem to come back to hours!
visit talk seemed to start out about persecution, trusting in jehovah etc...but the main thrust in the end was, 'do more hours, pioneer, don't get an education or pursue a career, don't get distracted, hooray for the pioneers!
if you dont do more hours you will be 'the sort that shrink back to destruction'.

Very Offensive Statement Directed To JW Parents-Watchtower 4/15/2015 Page 11 Paragraph 9
by JW GoneBad inwt is insinuating, worse yet, blaming senior jw parents for there not being more younger brothers reaching out to be ministerial servants and elders.
page 11 paragraph 9 reads as follows: .
"elders in affluent lands may face an added challenge: how to motivate baptized brothers in their 20s or 30s to get involved in congregation activities.

Watchtower, It has nothing to do with parents. What it comes down to is introspection and exposure. People in their 20's and especially 30's start thinking. After 20-30 years in the truth, there has been an accumulative exposure to people in the field and at work who are knowledgeable about evolution and inconsistencies in creationism. They learn from "non-apostates" the lies and contradictions percolating in the organization. They realize that none of what they have been taught as truth makes any sense. They release that they will have to retire and die in the real world, so they have to actually live in the real world and get a full-time job etc.
There comes a point in life when the scales fall off and you realize that you are slaving for a human organization that wants all of your time, money and energy before you die. Therefore, young ones everywhere are dropping the microphone and exiting stage left. You can hear the jingle as the shackles of Fear, Obligation and Guilt slide off their ankles at the door.

Hummingbirds are so awesome! I wish we had them where I live. Makes me miss home where they are everywhere. -

If the Governing Body members had to take a 'lie detector test' what questions would you recommend they are asked?
by Esse quam videri ini think it is reasonable for every leader or head of any organization that has control of peoples thinking and actions should, by law, submit to a lie detector test.
the results would be accessible to any one who had an interest in the matter.this test would be required before appointment to any position and on a yearly basis.
questions could be submitted to a competent and unbiased committee for approval.

Have you been guilty of playing with your one-eyed snake recently?
Does having power over people give you a hard-on?
Do men in tight clothes excite you?
Do you really believe in god?
I bet there is at least one in that bunch who is agnostic and faking it.

New (non)-Witnessing Model
by berrygerry inso, one of the kids on reddit posted this video - an evangelist trying to witness to guardians of the cart.
(both sides are fairly respectful imo).

The JW seemed very disinterested in engaging the evangelist in discussing the bible. "You wanna free publication? Great. Here you go. Feel free to make a donation for that by the way. Our society needs the money to build a nice posh new paradise like head quarters in New York. Before you leave I want you to watch this video, though. Oh, you have questions? Well, we are not here to discuss the bible. We are not here to debate. We are only here to count our time (to maintain our social status in the congregation) and close our ears to anything that might contradict what we want to believe in."
Been out for just a little while, yet it amazes me how watered down this religion has become. Can you imagine Paul or Peter or James sitting around idly, brushing off someone who was eager to discuss what the good news meant with him?

I stepped down on my own terms. I informed them I was moving and that I didn't want them sending any letter of recommendation to the new congregation. It made everything a lot less scandalous. -

What was your eye opening moment?
by WasOnceBlind inif you had to pinpoint the time or experience that finally made you open your eyes, what would it be?.
i think for me it was the time i saw my dad shun his brother who he had not seen in decades just because he was a da'ed jw.
i thought to my self "no way jesus would do that.

Natural disasters. Especially the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. One nitwit elder tried to tell me that god was exempt from blood guilt in not warning people because he didn't know it was going to happen. He explained that at times, god chooses to block his ability to foresee things that will happen in the future. God getting plausible deniability did not sit well with me. We are supposed to witness to the nations that an impending calamity is going to destroy this world, yet god can't take the time to warn innocent children and grandmas to get ready for a destructive earthquake that only god could know about or prevent from happening. If god doesn't care about warning people, why should I?
