I think it had something to do with scaring demons away when opening one's mouth to drink. The gling the glasses make when hitting each other was to scare demons from trying to enter one's mouth and entering the body.

Circuit Visit / Christmas campaign
by caspian insorry that i haven't posted for a while, been moving house and congregation over the last few weeks.. just thought that i will mention, the comments made by our co at the elders meeting on the friday of his visit.. with the elders starting the visits on the inactive in jan and feb, it was suggested by the society to start a week or so earlier to see how many have inactive ones have christmas decorations and so-on.. it was also suggested that if such ones are celebrating a pagan festival, it could be classed as false worship.
which is classified as a "self-disassociation offence" and hence an announcement could be made to the congregation.. my question is this, is it just our co taking things in to his own hands or is this now national or international policy.
kind regards.

They are more interested in catching people in fault that coming over to encourage. Shame on them. Is it the first time that they select Christmas time for visits?
Are inactive ones visited in the field service or is there a special evening reserved for that?

Watchtower & Sex
by JH indo you think that witnesses in general have a good sex life?
with all the pressure they have to produce and assist meetings, they have less time left on their hands for other things, like sex.
asked to be spiritual, reading the bible, talking about god and angels, takes their mind off sex.

Asked to be spiritual, reading the bible, talking about God and angels, takes their mind off sex. And the constant reminder that sex is so bad, may finish by decreasing the libido of some. The Watchtower also decides what kind of sexual act is acceptable for TRUE christians. Is it any of the Watchtower's business what kind of sex married couples have? Is your sex life better since you are out of the org?

Living in a dangerous world
by JH ina few years ago, i watched a tv program saying that nuclear bombs were missing from the former soviet union's arsenal.
they call them suitcase bombs, since they can fit in a suitcase or backpack.
today, i read an article that stated the same thing, but they are quit sure now that bin laden has a few of these in his possession.

Would it be likely that the US would negotiate with such a person if ever there was no solution to the growing problem? When we look at other hot spots on the planet, there is the axis of evil (Iraq,Iran,North Korea) who are about to be nuclear. I guess at one point, the US will have to either deal with these countries or go to war with them. China is a growing rival. Russia is unpredictable. India and Pakistan almost went to war recently. Maybe a world government is the only solution in the eyes of the world.

An other article, states the same thing. This one is more recent

"Does your wife feel she is a JW?"
by Scully ini wrote on wednesday about how a couple of elders came calling that afternoon in this thread: .
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=42220&site=3&page=1.
well, my husband and i had a bit of a disagreeable discussion earlier today about the visit.

Scully,
Do you still consider yourself to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
I guess that this must be their first question each time they meet an inactive person. Saying No, I don't consider myself to be a J.W. must automatically DA yourself. I wonder why they ask that question, since they want people to come back. By asking that question they put the odds on the other side, risking that the person may say No. They are almost inviting you to say I don't consider myself to be a JW. I wonder if their visits are only to kick people out, rather than bring them back.

Does Religion drive you nuts?
by JH inwith all the different religions and beliefs that contradict each other, do you still believe that one of them is the true religion?
the more we try to understand god, the more we are lost.
the more we pray, the more we are deceived.

Who or What is God? Who Cares?
by MrMoe inlately i find myself struggling with the simple fact that i do not believe there is a god, let alone any realm beyond the physical realm we are aware of.
as many of you who know me know i am fond of tarot and astrology, for sometime now i find myself doubting the real significance of it all.
is there more to life than this?
