The two witness rule *can* be applied this way as well, according to the elders book. I see you get drunk, but there is no one around, but I report it. Then someone else comes to the elders and they report that they saw you drunk, now two witnesses to the type of behavior have come forward and the elders could proceed with an investigation and JC. To my knowledge that hasn't changed.

You're so Smart
by simplesally inyou know, i look at my daughter and i see with my eyes how beautiful she is to me.
so many times we hear them say such cute things, smart things, funny things, etc......... we brush their hair, we dress them and play.
but so many times, i hear coming out of my mouth, "you're so beautiful" or "you're so pretty.

I like to ask my daughter -

The good in Jehovah's Witnesses.
by ScoobySnax ini don't think i've made any apology for my leanings here towards jws, whilst i don't imagine most here will agree with me, i just think its good sometimes to redress the balance on this forum in a small way to let people who might be reading/lurking/ know that.. despite feeling messed up a bit in my own head about which direction i want/have to take in my own life, and despite many struggles as deep and traumatic as many have experienced here, i still hold jws as a group in the highest esteem.
i can remember what it was like to try and do the "right" thing and follow the way of the truth, it was bloody hard, and i fell down many times.
i always used to try and pick myself up dust myself down and start over again, sometimes with success for longer periods than others.

"when my mom dies if she gets all her marbles back and realizes what happened after she went into the nursing home there'll be hell to pay: first, my dad (an elder for 40 years and her husband for 54) had an affair, got disfellowshipped, got reinstated, had a couple of other quiet affairs (finally got smart enough to NOT confess to the elders), spent most of the money she guarded like a dragon during their married life, drank too much, and committed suicide."
Oh my goodness. All that humanity in one sentence.
Wow - I hope she gets her marbles back and is thrilled with her daughter!

5er,
People are the same in or out of the truth. If they were lazy in the world the will be lazy in the truth. If they were a**holes in the world they will be in the truth.
All I can say is I'm sorry and maybe sitting down with your folks and telling them how you feel about how they are dealing with you would help? Maybe if they knew how much unconditional love would mean to you rather than the agape style of conditional love at the congregation, which they have adopted. Ask your step mom straight out how she would feel if you made a point of letting everyone know that she wasn't your real mom.
Hopefully the damage isn't beyond repair.
Sorry

Can I get some neutral insight without being preached to?
by Nancy ini am not a jw but my mother-in-law is.
since the day her son proposed to me (he is not a jw) she has made my life a living hell.
we have been married for just over a year and have a beautiful baby girl.

Well it's clear that either she or you is crazy. I'll assume it's her.
Of course the behavior you describe is way out and I'll bet the sisters in the cong. already know it. Crazy behavior can't be hidden. I've had experience with crazy MIL's, my own and friends in the congregation. These are well known nut cases and not approved of by the congregations at all.
If you want support from the congregation, have your son meet with the elders and tell them the nutty / hurtful things she is doing so that they can offer her counsel. If he says to them what a bad witness it is to you they will want to get her in line. How is he ever going to be able to talk to you about the truth if she is doing this stuff? They'll talk to her then.
If that is too distasteful then poisoning is always a posibility.

Anyone interested in cyber sex?
by RubyTuesday innow that i have your attention.
with the total anonymity available on-line, is it truly cheating, to flirt with, tease, or even "have sex" with someone via your computer?
is this the same as actually committing adultery, or is it just generally "harmless" fun?
-
confusedjw
Not actual adultery, but not harmless fun either. (If you are talking about the real dirty sex talk)
Insecure greedy people cheat. Which is why it is so very common.
A bit of flirting can be okay.

Letter to my Mom about UN NGO association
by Quotes inthe backstory: my mom became jw when she was young (early 20s, i think).
my dad is an elder and has been for years.
i had opportunity to mention the un thing via telephone a couple of times over the last couple years, always "buying out the opportune time," and encouraged my mom to check it out herself.. of course, she didn't bother to check out anything.

So with what Nathan Natas posted from the society.
1. It says "This circular letter replaces any replies we have given earlier..."
Q. What other replies did they give? Does anyone know?2. "We had been using the library for many years propr to 1991, but in that year it became necessary to register as an NGO to have continued access."
Q. What were the changes that the UN made in 1991 that required NGO status to continue to use the library? Does anyone have a copy of those changes?3. "Still, the Criteria for Association of NGOs - at least in their latest version - contain language that we cannot subscribe to."
Q. What was the previous language that could be subscribed to? Anyone know?
Still and getting more Confused
