I really appreciate your honesty. JW's and JW family members have whole different value systems from the norm, the borgs value system....however, I think your mom will be there for you when you need her. She needs you too. Welcome.

Besides weddings and anniversaries, do JW's celebrate life?
by truthseeker intoday is mother's day, but not for the 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses out there.. next month is father's day but not for the 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses out there.. the first monday in september is labor day in the u.s. but 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather labour in the preaching work.. november 25 is thanksgiving day but 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather do return visits and bother people who are giving thanks to god.. christ's memorial happens once a year (or week) for many christian denominations, but 6,991,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather observe a meal in progress instead of eat it.. every day someone has a birthday but 7,000,000 jehovah's witnesses would rather ignore their birthday and so something else.. all year round people celebrate and attend college graduations but millions of jehovah's witnesses would only attend a high-school graduation.. .
what exactly do jehovah's witnesses celebrate if anything?
they have no zest for life, few hobbies and outside interests.. a wt article a few years ago encouraged people to put their hobbies aside to simplify their life for kingdom pursuits.. jehovah's witnesses in my opinion, do not celebrate life.

Many witnesses celebrate on the days you mentioned, they call it not the holiday of that day, but " a time when it is conventient for everyone to get together. When I first studied with the witnesses, I did not go to the Thanksgiving Dinner my family was having. I did go to the presiding overseers house that day to get away from my "worldly" families pagen celebration. Guess what? We had a huge dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. It was not called Thanksgiving, but was in everyway the same. I was confused. I should of run the other way that day....but I spend another 25 years defending this confusion!

Well, the first card my daughter got from a JW relative constisted of a blank card with two coupons for two WT publications. No kind words or a gift!
Needless to say we all just laughed! The second card we recieved the same day was from our former Pastor that has moved away. Nice card and a gift!
Our daughter is 18 years old, never baptized or associated with any congregation. Do you think my daughter should send Methodist coupons back? LOL.

Hey guys,
Well, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Olivia and I am Thechickennest's daughter. Thank you so much for all of the great replys. I wasn't interested in this site at all, I would see my father on it and thought he was living in the past. I thought that our whole family unit was free of our past religion. It is something that I had thought was part of our past, but now I am realizing that is part of the present and our future. It is something that took everything. I was young when I was being brought into the religion but it has had major effects on me. I grew up fearing God. It wasn't until we moved back to my dad's home town did I start loving God. I can truely value my relationship with God because of what my family has been through. I have a relationship with God that many young adults my age don't have because of my past. It is something that I have had to personally overcome at a young age. There is a true strength that my family will always have because we know what it is like to function with the bare minimum. I hope to carry this strength with me into all of the aspects of my life. This struggle that I have had to watch my parents over come is not something that will tear us apart, like it has with the rest of our extended family, but will bring us closer. Now that I can understand this site I am very glad my dad found it. This past that I'm talking about I know many of you can relate too. I know that mine is very limited but I have grown so much from it. You truely can't value what you have until you have lost it all. I'm glad I have learned this lesson before I try to enter the real world and again thank you again for all of your support.

You are very lucky to be invited. My 18 year old is graduating this month as well. Give him a nice portrait of you. Give him a big hug from all of us, because we are all going to send out a very positive energy field that is going to release him from the bonds of the JW's.... A Gift? A laptop, ipod, a gift certificate to a nice bookstore, or amazon.com, Get a nice big thick book by the author-Ray Franz. Hang on to it for him for now. He will be needing later when he is older and wiser....because, "the acorn does not fall from the tree".

Can anyone tell me why Dubs dont do Mother's Day
by Princess Daisy Boo init is mother's day on sunday and i cant for the life of me remember why the dubs dont do this one?
-
Thechickennest
This former chubby dubby did not know that we were not supposed to celebrate Mother's Day. Gosh all mighty, I remember going with other witness families on Sunday after the meeting almost as a ritual annually to the local truck stop to celebrate Mothers Day! The cafe even gave out potting plants to the sisters! This was 20 years ago or more. I guess the Hot Springs, SD congregation was bad to the bone! And by the way I did not know the Red Lobster was greasy......now, on the other hand the Maverick Truck Stop.....there was enough grease around there to put Saudia Arabia out of business!

jwfacts: "Watchtower Justice" I think that says it all. I too remember the reasoning on this issue and the Reasoning Book. It just defies what is reasonable and what is good. Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. It helps remind me how dangerous JW's can be.
