Wonder where they got these ideas??? BBC News from today's Daily Telegraph (London)..... The House of Yahweh sect had predicted that the world would end before 12 September and had started building bunkers in case of nuclear war. However, after being arrested the sect's leaders disappeared. One blamed the media for destroying their image. But a BBC correspondent said some locals anxiously awaited the deadline. Then when nothing happened, they started laughing. "We knew these guys were tricksters," said local resident Duncan Mbugua. Monitoring The BBC's Noel Mwakugu who went to the village, 300km west of Nairobi, says the House of Yahweh's leaders were arrested and bailed on condition that they stop inciting fear in the local population. A sect member hold up a copy of Yahweh's 613 laws Sect members live by Yahweh's 613 laws He did speak to one of the sect's leaders, Eliasu Kamotho, by telephone. Mr Kamotho said the end of the world was still imminent but he refused to give a deadline. The authorities say they are monitoring the sect closely, after hundreds of a doomsday cult were killed six years ago in neighbouring Uganda after that group's predictions failed to come true. House of Yahweh is the latest intriguing sect to have emerged onto Kenya's packed religious scene, where more than 100 groups are now registered by the Kenyan government. The sect members refer to their creator as Yahweh, not God, and the male followers sport long, goatee beards.

Are you in a cult and want out? Be on the Dr. Phil show!
by Dogpatch inare you in a cult and want out?
be on the dr. phil show!.
http://www.drphil.com/plugger/respond/?plugid=9833do you feel you're involved in a cult?
-
Sheryl
You hate Dr. Phil? Why? I agree he has some insecurity issues (has to always remind us how very macho he is....)....but I feel I've learned some things from his show. My criteria for a cult is this: How easy is it to LEAVE?? Ordinary religions will share you here and there - no shunning, etc. But just try to leave a cult and see what they can do to you!

If your child grew up and became a Witness?
by free2beme ini think we all think that our children would never do this, with us being so negative toward the faith.
yet in reality, these children grow to be adults and will make their own choices in time, as to what they want and believe.
i wonder though, would we spend all of our time with them trying to explain why we exited and why they should not believe, or would we just come to accept it?

We've probably given a lot of thought to this. When my children were born was when I knew I could never feed them a diet of this kind of thinking. My favorite thing to say to them is that "I brought you up to be free"..... One acid test for any group is this: what is like to leave? If you go to an innocuous (more or less) sort of Lutheran/.....religion, you can certainly come and go as you like. You will not be ostracized - no matter what. You can ask any questions without being black listed. You are free. But in the top tier watch out for groups - JW, LDS, Scientologist....just try to leave! You are going to have to suffer some ignominy. Inescapable! They need numbers, money and no bad press please. Freedom is bliss. The internet is bliss. Say what you like. I really enjoy thinking about the department in Brooklyn that monitors this site...... You bet they do. Trying to stay ahead of the game and they're not doing too well. When I was pioneering in 1965...thereabouts...and a friend was in college, I managed to help her mother to get her out.....she wasn't a witness yet....because there just wasn't time to finish college in the 60s. The end was very very near. That poor woman has been a pioneer all these years, I think. And I've been free. That thought causes me great pain.

My Mother died...
by david_10 init happened one year ago today.
june 4, 2004. they say these things take time and that recovery gets easier as time goes on, and i suppose that's true.
but then again, some things leave a hole in your heart that will never go away.

Sheryl
Dear David, Yes I know the pain, both my parents are gone. I wish I had done so many things.....it is torture. You know your mother's story could have been very different. She could have embraced the real truth....she could have thanked you and that wonderful story could have gone on for the next 20 or 30 years!!! Think how happy you would have been then. So, you see David, we can't see ahead...you did the best you knew how to do. You were hopeful and optimistic. And you had to tell her the truth. You did your best David. You did your best.

Are You SURE JWs Don't Have The Truth???
by minimus inhas anyone here ever questioned whether or not they made the right decision to leave the "truth"?......i'm sure glad i'm out!
-
Sheryl
Are you kidding......I thank my lucky stars .....and my one great attribute...common sense. When moving to a new city I was thinking...do I want a bunch of BORING friends or real ones?? Do I want the Party line or do I want real people? And most of all, when raising my 2 kids - can I possibly give them that line???/ no way. My children saved me and themselves.

5 Yr. Old Daughter Dies But Mom Still Aux. Pioneer
by minimus ina recent experience was given at the meeting about how a faithful sister deemed her commitment to auxillary pioneer as being so important, that even after her 5 year old daughter rather suddenly died, she kept her promise to auxillary pioneer, just 2 weeks after the child's death.
the congregation generally was impressed with this sister's experience and many expressed their admiration for this sister, who has since become a regular pioneer ( for over 20 years).

Sheryl
that just shows how far brainwashing can go. it can shut down normal emotions. imagine the congregation bragging about that. the poor sister is just on automatic pilot. like we all were but were lucky enough to escape.

My 6th grade girlfriend
by Mulan inabout two months ago, i got an email titled, "think way back".
it was from a woman i knew when we were both in the 6th grade in 1956. we were good friends for a few months, when i briefly attended school with her.
we bonded and became very close in the 3 or 4 months that i knew her.

Hi Mulan, Thank you for the nice comments - maybe I've figured out posting !! Also I have the day off work - which helps a lot.
Well this forum is just great and thank you for telling me about it. When I escaped the JWs many years ago I had no idea any groups existed (which they may not have in this format anyway)....but over the years I sure have wondered about many old friends - wishing I could help them out of their fog. The internet is the greatest - and for sure the worst for the WT. Like China, they'll have to ban it!
When I typed in the word - disfellowshipped - on a yahoo search - the 20,000 sites just poured out! Cult (ONLY we have the answers) escapees definitely need a recovery period.
So there were the Engmans, Hogans, Avas, Slaters, Schlags - have any gotten out??? Yes, there we were in the early 1960s and for sure there wasn't enough time to finish college - the end was just too close.....
